Well, not quite. Today was a good day, with a Capital G. I took a big step (at least for me). I've been going out the last week or so, mostly driving, but with a stealthy visit to a store or two for a moment or two. Today, I had a breakthrough. I decided I wanted to be more out when I'm about. Drove to a local Duane-Reade (a large NY drugstore chain). I drifted in and out the other day, but not today. I strolled the store, a large one, and gravitated eventually to the cosmetics, where I casually browsed & picked out a mascara and a foundation. Then just sallied back and forth, picking and looking and just enjoying the feel of freedom. Then I went over to the hosiery aisle and picked over the pantyhose at my leisure. After about 20 minutes I checked out with a real live person, well sort of, he was the druggist. He rang me up with nary a funny look. After my very first encounter talking and interacting with the outer world, I was on cloud 9 and fully empowered. I walked about the store some more and used my cell phone. Girl, am I loving this.

Finally, I leave, but I'm intoxicated. I want more. So I decide to drive over to the local mall. Parked in front of the Macy's and went in like I owned the place. Casual and completely relaxed I touched everything and made as much personal contact as I dared. Picked out a couple of dress slacks, size 18, & went to the fitting room. Tried them on and admired my figure in the mirror. Oh, hubris! Decided against buying but smiled at the SA as she smiled at me.

Exited to the main mall and walked about. Stopped at a Payless Shoes & tried on some shoes. I'm able to comfortably fit into an 11W. Eventually I realized I had to get back home. But, no, one more stop. To the local bank. Waited on an ATM line & did some banking. Finally, went home.

Gee, this wasn't so bad after all. I passed without a single side-ward glance.
Wow, I AM Sandra Dee.

Go Gurl!! sounds exactly like me 4 weeks ago. The feeling of freedom to shop en femme is awesome. Hey im a big girl 200lb+ 6' , with heels. but I dressed nice and had a few looks but no big deal. I found the female speicialty stores very freindly.

Now when can I escape into fem zone again???? arrgh.

Way to go Patricia! It sounds like you had a great time. I know the feeling and when I go out shopping like you did I too get "intoxicated".

Fantastic!! I am so glad for ya. Another sista is catching on that being out and about is no big deal. If anyone ever reads you and makes a big deal of it. Just keep on going or doing what you set out to do. I have only been read in a bad way a couple of times. Most times I have a fantastic day or night out. Most times it just feels so good to be out. Great job Sandra Dee, keep on gurlen.

I was fixated on Sandra Dee as a boy. ( Summer Place theme playing in the background).:daydreaming:
Now that you've jogged my memory, I'll probably start a NEW fixation, of becoming her!

And Patricia is off and running! It is such a charge to get out. It used to be a scary one though. The sitting in the car and daring yourself to pull the handle and exit! I guess that is over for ever now!

Isnt it a great feeling to get out in the big world. People as a whole are really accepting. That or in there own little world. Though all the sales people I have met have been so nice.

Am I the only one who saw the name and got the song from "Grease" stuck in my head instead of "Summer Place"?
