View Full Version : Busted (but not, in this case)

So my wife heads out the door this morning, kid in tow. I'm up and about, getting ready for work. I head downstairs to the (finished) basement to iron some clothes. I decide to micro-dress, i.e. quick toss on a skirt, top, heels and off I go to ironing. Can't stay dressed like that to go to work, but it's fun.

So, I'm happily ironing away, and then I hear the door open. NO way it could be my wife; if she's come back, she'll be late for work. I crack a door, look around and see a shadow (I'd turned off the upstairs lights before heading downstairs, and it's not fully light outside yet).

What to do? What to do? Quick decision, deep male voice and very loud.."HEY!!!!"..figuring would be robber would vacate the house in rapid fashion.

And then I hear, "It's me!" (wife)

*phew*

Wife and I discussed this, and I openly wondered what I'd have done if she were a robber and she said "beat me off with a high heel?"

My wife is fully accepting and supportive, so it wasn't a "busted" but definitely would have been if she wasn't in the know or accepting.

Yes, she made it to work on time (barely). She'd forgotten to give me something before she left that I needed today.

A heart attack?? LOL
Great story. My wife has surprised me a few times coming home early. Even with a 'drab' stash nearby, I could have been caught so many times! Thankfully she knows about it.

This was a good test for you - try to anticipate the worst things that could

happen - according to Murphy's Law, they will - and try choking the burglar

with your bra while you kick him in the groin with you high heel.

that's a good story. came close a few times myself, wife knows children do not. They live behind us and every once in a while they forget that they are supposed to call before coming to our house. A few days ago I was on the computer and my wife was in the kitchen when she started talking real loud to someone, tipping me off that my daughter and her boy friend had just walked in the back door. Luckly I eased into the bathroom and change rather quickly.
So yes I fully understand. Hugs Tresa.

I need to keep a sweatshirt/pants handy I can throw on over my girl clothes when there's a knock at the door. With the kids off to college or otherwise never around and the wife physically handicapped, it's up to me to answer the door and I have to be able to run for it in the 30-60 seconds before they decide to give the lottery check to someone else because I'm not home.

JoAnne,

I gotta say....normally you're pretty much a "Debbie Downer" around here, but that made me spit out my Diet Coke all over my computer monitor! I almost always 'plan for the worst, but hope for the best', but this definitely made me giggle!!!

I don't have to worry about the SO... she knows and is accepting, so wouldn't blink an eye (except maybe to ask why I'm doing housework in my NICE skirt).

As far as the door goes, I think of it the same way I think of the phone. Just because it rings, it doesn't mean that I HAVE to answer it.

If somebody comes to the door I'm not expecting, then either it is somebody I don't want to see, or it is somebody I can catch up with later. They might know I'm home, but I am known to have very strange sleep habits, so when I see them later all I have to do is say I must have been napping.

THe only thing I'll do a 'quick change' for now is if I'm getting a package delivery that I know will require a signature. I'd stay dressed, but in such a small town the odds are pretty good that I'll know the driver (or we will know somebody in common).

LMAO I could just see breast forms bouncing off the robbers face as you make your deadly attack.
