I bought my first wig awhile ago and I am still experimenting with wearing a wig when crossdressing and need some advice about wearing them, specifically with how to properly "tuck" my hair in (it is fairly long). I have been using a wig cap but I'm not sure if I'm putting it on right. I have had a lot of problems with my hair itching underneath my wig. Also, I wanted to know whether or not I need a special type of brush to brush/style my wig (I certainly don't want to ruin a $40+ wig, especially one that looks as nice as what I found for myself). FYI:My wig is a synthetic one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There have been several recent threads on wig care - here's a good answer for that from the other thread:

Also see the thread wig care.

And another useful thread to check on wig caps and taping:

If you have long hair Beauty Trends (http://www.beautytrends.com) has a line of wigs called Hair Magic which is very airy and is designed to fill out your hair by simply adding volume. It has numerous holes in the wig for your natural hair to be pulled through. When you buy one you get a free VHS tape that shows you how to best use the wig. I've been toying with the idea of just breaking down and buying one.

Okay, that's settled, I'm doing it! After I'm done here. :p

Anyway, what I have been doing is pulling the wig over my hair and allowing my natural hair to show around the front and sides. I then comb my real hair back into the wig hair and it looks pretty natural. Of course, I have my hair colored the same as my wigs (I love dark brown so there's no changing colors for me). The only problem is the wig tends to creep up and I have to keep adjusting it.

But this Hair Magic wig doesn't require you to match your hair color and your natural hair is supposed to help anchor the wig in place. If there's a difference in color it looks like highlights.

That sounds interesting, Julie. I'm definitely going to look into this one.
