Hi, I've been living as Laura full time for over 18 months now except at work. I began working with the Human Resources dept at work last January. They were very supportive as was command ( I work for a DoD installation). We basically planned in fine detail how my coming out would go and they gave me much leeway in how I wanted to do it. I started work as Laura one week ago on the 21st. I can't tell you what a relief it is to be out there. There were supportive emails and visits from coworkers and a few negative reactions. All in all a very positive experience. I just thought I'd share my experience to give anyone else thinking of coming out some encouragement. Peace and Happiness, Laura B.

Congratulations, Laura. I couldn't be happier for you! It Gratifies me so much to see someone take this important step, and yes, other's experiences doing it do interest and encourage me. The clock is ticking for me, and I'll be taking that step around the end of this year, most Likely. Like you, I present female pretty much the rest of the time. Many of us spend more time with co-workers than we do with anyone else. It is a big deal. Congratulations again on your courage and determination.
Hugs,
Melissa :)

Way to go Laura. I know how big this step is.
I worked 20 years in the USAF and then 25 years as a DoD civil servant.

It's great to hear that the DOD is so supportive. I'm ex-army and now I work for the DOD.

Congratulations Laura, and I hope that everything continues to go well for you.
Like you were, I am pretty well out now full time except around home and at work, due to business reasons.
I am hoping that i will be able to re-locate within the next year, at which time I plan on coming out full time as well.
Keep up the good work
Denise

Hi,
What wonderful news!! I wonder if the DOD is becoming more accommodating. I work as a contractor on a USAF base and I really don't know how they are going to react to my transition.
I digress. Good for you girl!!

I know when I came out a few months ago it was such a releif like someone mentioned to you already we practicly spend more time at work then at home and I bet u feel complete now. I have a question for you. Did you leagally change you name? or was your work like mine and ablke to change my name internally except for HR for pay and stuff?
