For starters I don't know if I should put this in the lounge or the thread for jokes, crossword puzzles and what not. I found out when I was about 14 or 15 years old that my Uncle did kind of a girlie show for several hundred boozed up lodge brothers once a year. He was the best Uncle you could ask for. He'd get me and my brother New York styled Pizza and he took us fishing and bowling. He was there for us when my Dad died.
He had been a Navy Medic or Pharmacists Mate on at least a hundred of the South Pacific and Phillipine Island beachheads and he knew how tough it can get! But as a child and then as an adolescent I was becoming interested in looking for ways to crossdress and I didn't say a word but I was a bit jealous to find out about these shows of his and he had a leopard evening dress and a Jane Mansfeild wig!
Once a year he would take a couple of hours to get cleaned up and he would actually shave most of his body hair, legs, arms, etc. He put on hose and did his nails(how did he know the particulars of how that's done I wonder? Oh well,my aunt probably showed him)And he put on makeup. He'd get dressed and he wore heels for all this. Lipstick and the whole works! He wasn't quite passable but he looked sufficiently girly you could say.
He would act as the hostess at these big beer and coldcuts bashes and greet everybody who came in at the door. He had a fem name for him/herself in these big presentations but I can't remember what it was now for the life of me but I could ask one of my cousins and they'd know!
They would hire local musicians who knew music from the 30's,40's and 50's and so the tunes tumbled down. My Uncle would go on for practically all of the evening with the help of generous amounts of Budwieser
He sang "I Want to Be Loved By You" and "Let Me Entertain You" for example. And he sometimes threw out scarfs or some boas! He died about 3 or 4 years ago under peaceful and comfortable circumstances. My Aunt who was married to him went a couple of years before he did. I don't know whether to attribute all this business to a possible tendency to crossdress running in my family(this was my mother's brother)or just so much booze and whoopie cushion silliness. And maybe I'll never know. He did the shows every year since 1955.
