During the last year, and especially since I started therapy, I've been reading everything I can get my hand upon. Some of it has been damn scary, some has been profoundly sad, but mostly it has been enlightening. I wanted to share the ones I've read and ask for others that you would be willing to recommend.

The Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein.
Pretty gritty, but also very thought provoking on the subject of what is gender.

True Selves: Understanding Transsexualism--For Families, Friends, Coworkers, and Helping Professionals by Mildred L. Brown and Chloe Ann Rounsley.
I saw this referred to as the primer for transgendered and found it enlightening. After I came out to my wife, I gave her my copy to read.

She's Not There by Jennifer Finney Boylan.
This is a tremendously moving memoir of her journey to womanhood. I was especially moved by her wife's decision to stay by her side. This book made me the saddest, yet also gave me the most hope for a happy life.

My Husband Betty and She's Not the Man I Married by Helen Boyd.
I read these two first which helped me to view how my situation may be perceived by my wife.

I even printed out the Benjamin Standards of Care and read that. If anyone wants the official road map. That's it.

I would be very interested in your comments on these books and also point me in the direction of other helpful material.

Hugs,

Cate
