We interact with four different groups of people:
1st kind - those who only know us as men.
2nd kind - those who only know us as women.
3rd kind - those who know us as both men and women.
4th kind - those who only know us as men but who somehow communicate with our inner woman automatically.
I have several female friends who are of the 4th kind. They might not approve of my crossdressing/transgenderism if they really knew about it, but when we converse they relate, seemingly automatically, to me as a woman.
It is amazing when it happens, and I think I have a very special friend who has now become a friend of the 4th kind.
She's always known that I'm the cook in the family. I'm the one who makes the fat-free brownies or other delights that we bring when they have a party, and we've always exchanged recipes and cooking info.
But a few weeks ago she was showing off her newly refinished craft room to my spouse and I. She and I began to chatter about her wonderful doll collection and about scrapbooking, etc. Those things are pretty much of a big yawn to my spouse, and I think, although she tries to manufacture enthusiasm, it's pretty clear who really enjoys those things.
Now, every time she acquires a new doll, or completes a new project, I'm invited up to see it.
Last week my son and I helped them with moving a very heavy piece of furniture in their house. When we finished, she brought out a gift for me, the recently issued Bathing Suit Barbie retrospective doll from the "Then and Now" series.
Needless to say, I immediately sent her a Thank You note on cute, girly notepaper.
Tonight we were out to dinner as two couples, something we do very frequently. She and I went to get the parking passes validated and, as we were walking, she made a female-to-female joke. Since I was kinda deep in "guy mode" I didn't get it at first, and she seemed puzzled by my missing it.
I think she has seriously blossomed into a friendship of the 4th kind. What do you think?
