The question isn't "what's the difference", it's more like "do they have anything in common besides lacking a fabric leg-seperatio-barrier?".

Skirts are a lot more flexible than kilts. A woman can wear any of one of thousands of varieties of skirts, where as kilts are all.. well.. kilts. They have other stylistic elements with which they are closesly associated - most importantly, sporrans. A guy wearing a kilt with a sporran is a lot different than a guy wearing a skirt. Beyond that, though, you also expect to see the right shoes and hosiery with a kilt, as well as a reasonably formal/cerimonial top.

Yeah, you might well see a guy wearing a kilt, with a sporran, and a lacey tank top. But he'd be making a statement, not trying to blend into 'normal' society - he may as well wear a leather mini.

So, in short, wearing a kilt is at least as constricting as any other male clothing. If you want to wear a skirt, wear a skirt. If you want to march in a St. Patricks day parade, wearr a kilt. :D

Actually, take it from a guy that wears both, there is a difference. If you look at a wrap around skirt, which by the way, a kilt also wraps around. With the skirt, you tuck the left side in and buckle it to the right side, then bring the right side over the left side, and buckle it on the left side. With the kilt, it is the opposite.

Coming from Scotland , the kilt is part of our our national dress and there is a huge difference between a kilt and a skirt, a proper kilt has 22 yards that's about 7 metres of material in its make up and is made to measure for the individual wearer to compliment the male figure and hang properly on the hips, i can personally vouch for their coolness in summer and warmth in winter also there very smart and eye catching, only similarity is that their both very sexy to wear
