My dad begged my not to go dressed as julie but i did anyway, i'm just alot more comfortable and open. anyway when i got there i told them i was the 2:30 appt and they asked me my name and as i used my male name to make the appt that is the one i gave them. what a huge double take i got. in the waiting room was a woman, a guy and me and when the doctor came out she immediately looked to the guy and called my name, well he shook his head no and when she scanned the room again she looked at the woman, that is when i stood up. when we were walking to her office she said that i looked great and could not believe i was a guy until i got real close. all i could say was thank you. well after talking to her for an hour about my past and trying to get to the current situation asap. well at the end she asked if there was a name i would prefere to have the next appt made under and i said yes, Julie. now she was nice but she has never dealt with transgender issues or crossdressing. she has been to seminars on the subject and so on but it is like a new learning experiance for her. my next appt is in 2 weeks and i am going to a closer counceler next tuesday. i will make up my mind after tusedays appt on which i will continue to see. all in all last tuesday was a pretty good day.

Good for you Julie. It sounds like you are doing what you want. I had a few sessions with a counslor & I felt a lot better about my self after ward.

I was wondering what does a person look for if there is not a clear professional that has experiance in gender issues? Because in some areas of the country there is not a large supply of therapists and less of qualified/experienced ones. If I wanted to check out a professional I would have to drive 2hrs one way for each appointment. Any help would be appreciated.

Is she charging you for her learning experience? Just wondered?

Keli,

Take a look at this thread, where I asked about how to pick a therapist. http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75294
Especially useful was the note from VtVicky, who is a rather amazing combination: a retired military psychiatrist cross dressing ski instructor.

I am seeing a therapist who had counseled wives of cross dressers before, but not the crossdresser. She put a lot of work into understanding it, including reading this forum at my suggestion.

Hope this helps.
