I need lots of advice for thoes girls in here that shave their legs only in the wintertime. I start to shave my legs sometime in October or November. When I do that first shave I get red sores and nicks. I need something thats for sensative skin. I usually just use a pink ladys razor. Also what can I use to get my legs real soft? But I still want to have the hair grow back in the summer. Any advice will be greatly needed. Thanks Angie
I just shaved for the first time last week and find myself constantly rubbing the new-found smoothness. I've read on these forums that you should soak in a hot bath before shaving and use some sort of moisturizer afterwards.
From personal experience, I find baby oil a very soothing after-shave. Maybe shave with the grain of your hair to reduce the chance of irritating the skin. Also, when shaving, go gentle, not like when shaving facial hair. Barely touch the skin with the razor and go slow.
Exfoiliants help too, with the in-grown hairs. Maybe the more expeirneced girls can chime in with more sage advice.

go and have them waxed - its quick, fun and does the best job possible.
Angie,
I too shave my legs during the winter months, only to let them grow back during the summer...yech.
I look forward to that first shave. I prepare a nice bubble bath with moisturizing bath soap. After soaking for about 10 minutes. I dry off and trim the hair down with an elec trimmer. I usually shower ater that to clean off, then run a half full tub. I like like shaving gel. Particularly edge/menthol. I love the tingling it gives my skin. I later up my legs, 1/2 a leg at a time. I will use a 4 blade ladies shaver this next time, but up until now, I use a mach3 shaver. Start at my feet, and work to my knee. make sure you don't over shave in areas, as this will cause some irritation. I like the gel, cause I can keep up with where I've been, and remember to keep your blade clean.
Afterwards, like you said, a good mosturizer is a must. To maintain that smoothness, and to prevent the bumps, use a good exfoliating method. I like those gloves. I wash with them every day. During the spring growing season :D use the gloves to prevent the ingrown hairs.
I hope any of my suggestions help.
Kiva
P.S. I can't wait until fall!

I shave my legs in the winter months also. Sad because i love to go out in a summer dress with shaved legs (Late at night). I wear jeans all year since i've never been out en femme (in public)

Absolutely love to shave my legs. Enjoy the entire experience. I find that it doesn't matter what gender of razor I use, but the best shaving cream I have found is Edge. I use the Gillete triple blade. I also get the smoothest, most long lasting results when I soak in a hot bubble bath prior to shaving. Shaving against the grain is the only way to ensure that your legs will be totally smooth and long lasting. Going with the grain will only allow you a few hours of enjoyment before it is necessary to shave again.
Waxing is the best way to go. It lasts for days, sometimes weeks, but not many. The problem I have had with waxing, and I realize this is vain, is that it tends to pull off my tan. Hard to fathom, but I don't wax because of it. What this means, of course, is that waxing pulls off skin, and it doesn't happen totally, it happens in blotches. Kind of weird, huh?

Hell, I just don't show my legs in drab mode!!
... anyway, back to topic:
I shave with just water and a razor, but am having the same problem as you, Angie. My friend just recommended soap to me (if you can't afford girly shaving foam.)

I shave my legs all year around. I can't stand hair on my legs. I shave everyday, only this way I can keep my legs smooth... Although I wish I could just remove that hair once and enjoy my smooth legs without shaving:)

Angie,
What sort of a girl are you who wants hairy legs for the summer  . Sorry, I do know what you're talking about - just had to say it!
Whatever you do the hair isn't going to just dissappear in a few months, whether it's shaving (the hair will never dissappear if you shave), waxing, epilating or creams - let me know if I've left any ways of hair removal out.
If you shave your legs frequently enough they will get used to it and not come up in sores. To prevent nicks, just be a bit more careful and take your time, your a girl - you've got all day. You need your girlie time!
If you get your legs waxed it WILL hurt. I've been having mine done for about 8 months now, every 5/6 weeks. The hairs are still growing back, although very much reduced number, and what does grow back is finer and the waxing doesn't hurt anything like it did for that first session.
Epilating will hurt like hell to start with so I wouldn't recommend it unless you've waxed for a while. I started epilating about 3 weeks ago, between waxings and although it did hurt it was an acceptable ammount of pain.
Epilating and waxing will both gradually reduce your hair re-growth, but they will both reduce the strength of the hairs so will both hurt less in time.
Hair removal creams are the least painful way of hair removal (unless you let the cream stay on too long and burn you). I've no idea on if creams reduce the hair growth over time.
Whatever way you choose for hair removal, once you have done it rub a good body lotion into your legs to moisturise and replenish the oils in your skin (this is starting to sound like I know what I'm talking about  ) and moisturise regularly.
I hope this is of some use to you (and not to inaccurate  )

I hope you don't think I'm butting in, but I just ordered this because it's all natural.

I find that waxing lasts a long time but it's time consuming to do yourself and a bit expensive to pay for all the time.
Shaving is best if you get in the shower and moisturize FIRST with a great thing called "Olay Moisturinse" all over, especially where I want to shave. When I do shave those areas, I put on a little moisturizing bath gel---not too much--- and keep that area under the shower when I'm doing it. Takes practice, but I never get bumps or cuts. I find that a load of shaving cream makes it hard to judge "where you are" and leads to nicks. The MOST important thing is to never use a dull razor and go slow.
Then, when I get out, I splash Witch Hazel all over---it's soothing and refreshing, then I moisturize again.
For very sensitive areas, I swear by those little "personal razors" they sell all over now, the kind with batteries. They work, cut close without any pain or redness, and you couldn't cut yourself if you tried. They sell them in the pharmacy (I get the men's version which are just a little bigger and a different color), at GNC stores, and even at J.C. Penny's. They shouldn't be more than $9.99 and last a couple months.
