View Full Version : Surprise in the mail. I guess I'm out at my clinic.

As I had posted earlier, last Monday my therapist gave me my referral to start HRT. When I called my clinic to make an appointment with OB-GYN I asked them to note my preferred name is Pamela.

Yesterday a reminder for an appointment I have with a different doctor arrived in the mail...addressed to Pamela. I called to make an appointment this morning for something else and "his" name wasn't there but Pam's was. It appears she changed it in the system and not just noted it somewhere.

At least I won't have to bother telling my other doctors now.

Congrads on the HRT, and it looks like one less hurdle to leap! No more confusion from the docs.

It's awesome to have your name called out in the waiting room in your preferred gender! It's very satisfying indeed. However, If I may add one cautionary note. If you have health insurance that this doctor's office bills you on, (it has happened before to some of us) the insurance company may kick the claim back and not pay it because of mismatch in gender and/or name for the account number. Be sure to check with your doctor's staff about using your proper (male) name for billing purposes.

I had my OB-GYN just make a note in their file that I wish to called by my female name. They have always honored that.

Just a thought! And congrats on the HRT!

I remember that two days after my legal name change court order I went into the hospital for a new pacemaker.

That was the first time I had anyone call out Miss Nelson.
Then the nurse taking history asked if I had a hysterectomy.

And I didn't even have to take off my wig for the surgery!
How happy that made me.

MODS PLEASE DELETE THIS POST IT WAS ACCIDENTAL DOUBLE.

You are right about the insurance, medicare still insists I am male for the billing, and they sent back the first one until I explained I was pre-op. They told me to go to SS and get my gender changed to female. Ahhh if only I could.
