View Full Version : Referral disappointment

On Wednesday I had an appointment with my doctor who told me that I had not been referred to Charing Cross because of an error made by the psychiatrist.
The psychiatirst originally wrote to my doctor in May stating that he did not need to see me and I could be referred to Charing Cross to see a gender therapist about my gender dysphoria. My doctor then wrote to the local PCT (Patient Care Trust) to ask for my referral.
The PCT wrote back to my doctor stating that the psychiatrist was the only person form whom they could accept a request for a referral, as stated in their official policy.
This meant that my doctor had to write back to the psychiatrist explaining what the PCT had told him and that the psychiatrist needs to see me. This means that the last two months have been wasted by all of this and I am no nearer going to Charing Cross than I was when I went to see my doctor at the begiinig of April.
My doctor has sent out five letters in all during this time and he said that I should get an appointment with the psychiatrist within the next two weeks.
This may turn out for the best because it gives me more time to find another job and my laser sessions will be almost complete by the time I get to Charing Cross, which will be evidence that I am serious about transitioning. I am sounding optimistic bacause other than this I have had a pretty good week otherwise.

It is a bumpy road for sure some days ! I am sorry to hear of the confusions.... I'm having some similar bits in my path, but mine were more quickly resolved. Makes me feel lucky today!
I *hope* they get it straitened out for you, so you can get onto CC. In my experience we are much more ready than they expect ... so I doubt they will need much "proof" of how serious you are. We have to keep in mind that they do need to know you are serious, as the results are rather serious ;)
Although it can be hard, concentrate on the good things of the week ! Much luck to you with all those letters and referrels !

I know how frustrating mix-ups can be. It sounds like there is still a path and even though it is taking a bit longer, I know the time will go by before you realize it.
:hugs: Hang in there sweetie

Dear Carole,
The pause may be just what you need. Why are you seeking validation for yourself from the Charing Cross? Using a laser beam to rid your legs of hair doesn't mean anything other than you've got smooth legs. Take the time to step back and give some real thought to what transitioning means. I'm not trying to give you a hard time here. I just want you to be happy with the results. Even if it means putting it off for a little while. Transitioning is more about what's on the inside than what you see on the outside.
Everything is about "choice". Make the one that's right for you.
Be safe. Be smart.

Why do you need to have a referral to see a gender therapist? Is it paid for there? I had trouble even fining a therapist ntil I went on line and found an internet therapist Graham Peveller. etherapy @gmail.com.
I have my letters already and am going for surgery this month.
