Ok so I got my nails from walgreens, and it came with glue. ordinarly I'd use strong double sided tape, but it doesn't hold so well sometimes, so I figure what the heck. When I was done with them (can't type with long nails) I started to pry them off.. all came off fairly easy except the pinky and thumbs... I start to mildly panic.. manage to get the pinkies off, but the nails on the thumbs aren't budging (when I glued them on, because of my large hands I had to stretch the nail on to fit the width, so it was on extra tight).. I try prying underneath with a screwdriver, it's still stuck.. holy crap, I can't go to work like this! I pry a little more, now it's starting to hurt and it feels like I'm going to start prying off my natural nail underneath.. I try bending the fake nail to see if it'll peel off.. I finally manage to get both off with some pain. Man, I"ve never had nails on so good before. Luckily my wife has lots of nice nail files so I could scrape off all the glue underneath.. Whew! ;)

jo ann jo ann jo ann - never pry off any artificial nails. Dissolve them off using acetone! You can easily cause nail bed damgae doing it the way you did, and perhaps permanent. The nails you used should have had removal instructions.
I have a big thread on how to remove these in the Beauty Club.....

Okay -- this might be dumb for one reason or another -- but can you just file the nail down?

Nail polish remover with acetone will work in a pinch, but very slowly. Didn't the nails come with instructions on how to apply and how to remove?
Well anyway, don't let that stop you from using the nails again :) I just hate to see anyone damage their nails....

I think Sherlyn got a present from Kew - temporary, wash off glue for nails... ask her about it - maybe order yourself online - I probably will sometime soon.

Some of them have a temporary wear adhesive that you just soak in warm water for a few minutes, that's the kind I use "just in case"

Been there, done that, learned the lesson. The next time you're at one of the dollar stores pick up some inexpensive super glue (it comes 2 or sometimes 3 bottles on a card for a dollar). The next time you want to use glue to attach your nails use it. The trick is to use only ONE small drop per nail and position that drop in the center of your natural nail. Put the back of the acrylic nail against the cuticle and lower the front down until it's resting on your natural nail. Press it and hold it in place for about 10 seconds then release. When done this way the glue will distribute fairly evenly, but more towards the front. When the time arrives to take them off ease the tip of something like a nail file under the back of the acrylic nail and apply GENTLE upward pressure. They'll usually pop right off and if you're very careful with them you can use them several times before having to throw them away.
There's a page on my web site about this if you'd care to read it, and it also describes how to prepolish your nails before you use them. You can also use contact cement to attach your nails, but it's far more time consuming. Click on the the "Helpful Hints" area on the main menu page to access the information.

Jo ann, I have met many guys who won't read instructions becouse they feel that doing anything is a test of there manhood. Well in away it is. But look at it this way. The instructions are the answer key and reading them first would be cheating. and we all know that cheating on a test is okay. So reading the instructions with no one around is fine. just don't get caught.

I figgured that out on my own---Super glue works great and will disolve in Acetone based nail polish remover.---Actually I learned to put on a bit more than one drop--the nails stay on better---but here's the trick-- pry them off from the SIDES and not the tip. There is less stress on the natural nail and they usually POP right off. The ocasional stubborn nail can be removed by pouring (or soaking) polish remover on it--give it a few seconds and the nail eventually comes off ---
I really thint the nail bed dammage thing is individual genetics some peoples nail beds are tougher than others---if you have no trouble or little pain the first time, likely you wont have to woorry in the future.---Jusn MY 2 cents

I really think not. Causing pain ripping off nails is traumatic to the nail bed and the matrix. Once you damage the matrix (nail root) your nails could grow back deformed, or worse. So please, do NOT pry off false nails, you can file them down and soak the rest off with pure acetone (put some cuticle oil on the cuticles first before soaking in acetone). Just make sure you use hand/nail cream and cuticle oil afterwards.
You can do what you like to your own nails, but please be careful on how you advise others regarding their nails. They aren't your nails that could be ruined.

Yeah I agree Tamara - that's what I said in post #2 :p And many times once that nail bed is damaged, it will stick with you for life....
