I just had another meeting with HR and it looks like there is nothing stopping me from transitioning here at work. Their position is I'm being treated for a medical condition and, unless it affects my ability to do my job, it's a non-issue.

I have an announcement letter all set to go out on the 17th. My manager, supervisor, and a couple of the engineers with whom I work daily have seen it and are supportive or at least neutral ("you have to do what you have to do").

The only thing that remains for me to complete next week is get my new ID badge ordered and have IT change my name and set up aliases.

I recently read you should gauge where you are in a journey not by how far you have yet to go but by how far you've already gone. As I look back, 1 year ago I never imagined in my wildest dreams I'd be where I am today. Much of the courage and inspiration to dare to be who I am I've gotten from you wonderful ladies and gentlemen here and I want to thank you all for sharing your stories and experiences, both good and bad.

Thank you all so much.

Pam, good for you!! You are now entering the work force as "yourself". That took a lot of guts! I'm proud of you! Just make sure they get the name right on your first paycheck. You wouldn't want a problem cashing it.(Unless you direct deposit, of course.)

Congratulations, Pam! Thanks for reminding us that progress is a function of direction, not distance, and that a periodic look in the rear-view mirror can show that we've come a long way while simply focusing on following the right path.

Congrats, Pamela I was were you are now just a little over two years ago. At that time I tought that I would never complete my transition , it just seemed so far away. But here I am, complete and all I really did was take little steps day by day and you eventually find that those little steps add up to huge steps. And going to work as your true self is the best thing in the world. I speak with experience on that subject. I myself have come a long way in just three years, your day will come just have patience. Pam, you are moving into an era that I may be before retirement and the fact that you are not only making your journey but willing to help others (including myself) is so lovely.
Thank you for your help and I wish you the best. See you on Wednesday. Huggs Teri
