Carys,
I shave my lower legs and recently needed to go into the hospital for an emergency. At one point I told the doctor examining me that I was an avid bicyclist. He said: "Oh, I wondered why you shaved your legs." I never have heard of a bicyclist shaving his or her legs but decided not to correct him. Frankly, he didn't seem very curious. I also was wearing pinkish panties -- a unisex design -- that attracted absolutely no attention. So my recommendation: Shave them!

I have never put my leg hairs to the razor myself but I do know if you are a hardcore road cyclist, you want to shave your legs and arms.
Now they joke that it makes them a little more aerodynamic since road bikers are often obsessed with loosing the tiniest bit if air drag (and spend thousands of dollars for specialized equipment) but shaving does have a purpose. Apparently having no hair on the skin will help heal road rash faster than it would with hair.
Just get some spandex and a road bike and now you are legitimately shaven :drink:

I told my wife i was going to do it.. She said that i wouldn't so i made her stand there while i started. Been a bit lazy of late and they've grown a fair bit, but i will be doing again soon. My mother also commented on it while we were swimming a few weeks ago... I said it makes me go faster!

I don't think anyone will care if its Ok with your SO. No need to explain to anyone. Its none of their business. I've kept my legs and arms hairless for 10 years. Wouldn't be caught dead in shorts with hairy legs.
You could always say its a Doc. Martin thing and leave anyone who asks puzzled.

I just came back from an afternoon with close friends, who were maybe 2 feet from my legs at some points, and never had a clue or didn't indicate that they noticed.
Just do it. It's no big deal. I shave my arms and hands too. (actually a full body wax, but that's another story).

I shave my legs and arms and no one has ever said a thing, if they do my answer is I swim for my exercise regimen. I am athletic so no one would question it. But the farther I fall into this rabbit hole the less I care what people think. I wear earring in both ears 24,7,365 an not a sole cares ( I work in a very professional environment were life's may be at stake) I match my earrings to my shirt color. Pink,Green, Blue, and so on.
Christine
I see you are 35. At that age most of us older girls had a secret too. At around age 45 or so we began to not much care who know our "secret". I first shaved at age 36, 1979 or so... who counts. Shaved the axilla too. (arm pits) could not stop. I would start to grow hair and it HAD to go! Wife complained about the leg stubble. I used to sit with tweezers for hours to get rid of the leg hair. Enter the Sharper Image epliator $86.00 and I had to have one. next time I went to town I got my first epilator. A wonderful machine. NO STUBBLE wife is Happy. Now when she rubs my legs she says how nice they feel. Life is good.
DO NOT SHAVE!!! PULL THOSE LITTLE SYMBOLS OF MANHOOD AND GET ON WITH LIFE.
Honestly you are the only one who cares. Put a little money on a jar every time someone says something about your beautiful legs and in 10 years you will be able to buy a spot of tea!
It is actually becoming popular in the USA to shave most men's hair!

I never have worn shorts that much since my high school days, so I don't worry about anyone seeing my legs.. I'm in the closet still and shave my legs regularly and have for the past ten years give or take.. about the only thing I can say is shave your legs and just assume nobody cares one way or the other..
What an issue!? lol. just don't know how to to get away with shaving and doing every day things without people picking up on it.......as you may've guessed i dress indoors only....but my SO is well aware and very supportive to me. HELP!?
Seriously, no one is going to notice. Think I'm kidding? How often do you check out guys legs when they wear shorts? Yeah. Unless you are Brad Pitt, no one checks you out all that much either.
Point 2. Check out some guys legs next time you are out. Notice how lots of guys have some pretty minimal leg hair? Notice how it is hard to tell if they have any leg hair at all? Do you think all of the less hairy guys shave? Of course not.
Point 3. No one will EVER say anything to you. Why? Next time you are sitting around with your buddies having a beer, try saying this: "Hey Ken, nice legs!" Yeah. Even if Ken IS checking out your legs, he isn't going to get caught checking out your legs.
Point 4. If some one DOES check you out, and DOES say something - put on your big girl panties and say something like "Yup, that is just how I roll." If they press you (they won't) just tell them your wife likes it, or that you like it, or that your follicles were damaged in a horrible friendly-fire napalm accident in 'Nam (that will shut them up right there if you do it right) or something. Just because someone sees your sexy legs, doesn't mean you have to tell them you like pantyhose. The key is to be un-f&(k-with-able. Trust me, as a long time jerk, there is nothing so deflating as someone who doesn't care if I tease them.
Trust me. No one has EVER said 1 word about MY legs.

I've shaved my legs off and on over the past five years or so, and not once did anyone ever comment or give any funny looks. It's not that big a deal. If anyone ever does ask me - "I like them this way - so what?"
Also, I trim my chest and stomach very short, and my arms and hands. Several times I've had my hands waxed. Same story.

Since removing the hair on your arms and legs reduces drag, I think I might try it as a way to control my desire to CD... :D
When I do it this fall its going to be in preparation for halloween CDing so my excuse will simply be that I always wanted to try it, what's wrong with that?

Just as everyone has suggested, just go ahead and shave, especially since your SO is supportive...do it. I've shaved everywhere for the past 6 months and no one has said anything about it...in fact I don't even think they've noticed!! AND, it feels damn nice!!!! :) I have also discovered that many gg's love it when their guy shaves!!!!

First of all my wife knows about my crossdressing so no issue at home. I first started shaving and epilating not long after I had a varicose vein surgery. I had to shave the affected leg before the operation and figured it was a great opportunity to do the other "just to even things up". It felt just good I couldn't go back to the old hairy legs. Anyway, because of the varicose veins, I had a little excema and dry skin around my ankle...So figured this was the basis of my reason if I was asked me why I shaved. "Oh yes...I have to shave so that the medicated cream could make proper contact with my skin"...)))) So far the excuse is still on the shelf...I haven't needed to trot it out at all.
I play sport and wear shorts on most weekends and no one seems to have noticed..or if they have, said nothing. In fact, I am at the stage now where I honestly don't care what they think. Actually, it's a little bit of a thrill.

when i was younger i was working in new construction... osha was always there and annoyingly strict. shorts were out of the question. out of habit been wearing jeans / pants full time since i was 14 so its mostly a non issue for me ;p downside is skin is so white i virtually have to wear pantyhose or stockings just to cut the glare :o
simple story, wear pants if you are in the closet and scared of what people may say.

I've been out and about with shaved legs, arms, pits and chest for something like 20 years now, and no one has ever said a word about it.
In 2001, I unexpectedly spent nine days in the hospital, with my shaved legs, toenail polish and a very new, very feminine tattoo on display the whole time. There were no negative comments, but they did start help several very nice conversations with the nurses and technicians -- all of whom were interested and sympathetic.
I just can't imagine you will run into any problems.

I always stay hair free all over my body other than a triangle of pubes. I have never had any comments even when stripped to swimming trunks. It is my lifestyle choice, it doesn't hurt anyone else, so I think what the heck and enjoy. Until you have felt nylons on hairless legs you haven't lived. There is no feeling quite like rolling a new sexy pair of stockings up freshly smooth legs. I always use a cream such as veet which leaves me absolutely smooth and soft. Mmmmmm! Then walk out in a little mini and enjoy. Just talking about it makes me go weak at the knees.

I'm fairly young still, but I'm beginning to learn life is way to short to worry about what other random people think about you. It only matters what the people very close to you, i.e. your SO. Talk with her about it, if she's game, then go for it. I have shaved my legs, arms, under-arms, chest, hands, feet, for years, and only a few people have commented to me about it, and they were all already in the know as to why i was doing it. I believe most people out there even when they notice are polite enough to not say anything, so go ahead you'll love it and never go back to hairy legs.

I can only agree to this. It's your body, so you have the right to shave your legs or not. If someones asks, just tell them you prefer it that way. I don't think anyone is going to care about it enough to ask more.

Hi Carys,
I don't know where you live in Wales or what the people in your area are like, but I bet you they won't even notice! When I lived in the UK (Bristol area) no one ever said a thing to me, and I'm talking about "showing them off". Like having them on show at the local swimming pool, in the gym, playing golf in the summer, everywhere. Only once did I think someone had noticed, it was two GG friends of mine (women are more likely to notice than men) and that happened because I happened to be wearing some really short cropped jean shorts (Daisy Dukes) and I was stood right next to them on the patio and they were sat down near me on a low wall, i.e. my legs were up fairly close to them and directly in their eye-line. They didn't say anything to my face but I could tell they were wondering as they were whispering to each other and their eyes were on my legs. I bet what caused them to look in the first place was actually my shorts not my hair free legs! That was the only time. I promise you, 99.9% of the time people won't even notice and even if they do, they definitely won't say anything. Why not try it? :)

Hi Rhonda-
Out of curiosity, what is "magic powder"? I've never heard of it, can you let us know who makes it and if it has product name other than "magic powder"?
Thanks.
Oh, and fwiw, back to the OP about the whole shaving thing, like so many of the other girls here, I am totally shaved from nose to toes, no one has ever said a word. I wear shorts and t-shirts in the summer and while I'm sure people may have noticed, nobody has ever come up to me and said anything. Just go for it.
Hugs...Joni Mari

Hi, I've been shaving my legs, arm and pits for about five or six years and nobody has said anything even my wife. Amazingly I got more comments about my lack of hair on my legs before I started shaving. If some guy ever did I would counter with "Why are you looking at my legs"

Well, you have gotten a lot of advice to shave those hairs off. If you are still not convinced, you may want to try the Karren Hutton tips on "almost not shaving". I practice it regularly and it seems to work great so far. Fom May until October, I almost wear daily shorts and flip flops. I play golf sometimes twice a week and ride in a cart next to my playing partner, I sit out in the sun and have coffee reading a book talking to the coffee regulars on a daily basis, and I go over to my daughter's house to lay in the sun and swim in their pool under the watchful eyes of my daughter, son-in-law and grand kids who seem to have that uncanny ability to notice the smallest detail about me when something changes. All this and no comments after almost 2 years using this technique. I am also fortunate to not have a lot of body hair to start with, plus it is not very heavy nor extremely dark.
HOW: Use one of the cheaper electric hair trimmers (about US$30.00 here in the States) that come with the little plastic trimmer combs of varying heights. I normally use the 1/4 inch one. Trim your leg hairs (I also do my lower arm hairs) and take your time to trim it in all directions to get an even cut. Get some cheap blonde hair coloring (I use the Sally Hanson Face and Body Hair Bleach kit instead) and follow the directions to dye the hair real light blonde. Voila! Short light hair that is really hard to see on your bare legs (I do not wear nylons during the summer tanning season!), yet visible enough in the right lighting conditions to prove that you are still a "man" and have hair on your legs to your golf buddies, family and friends.
When you wear stocking or nylons no one will ever see any hair. I do my arms too, because, though light and thin, they still look a little too "manly". That way I still have very light and short hair much more in tune with how GG's hair is.
Standard excuses I have heard before for why no hair: I ride bicycles and/or swim a lot and want to cut down on the drag affect (no pun intended), I never had much leg hair, my wife likes it that way, etc.
Try it and you may find it works well enough for you until you are ready for the total shave. Good luck.

I shave my legs, armpits, chest and arms and no one has ever commented on it. I wear shorts most of the time during the summer. Also, I work out at a gym 4-5 times a week and sometimes shower there. Like everyone else is saying, go for it. When you do, it will be hard to stop since having little body hair feels so good. Wait until you experience wearing nice stockings on really smooth legs.

Anyone who thinks he needs an excuse should probably not shave. If the idea that someone might notice bothers you, then suffer in silence and don't bitch.
Face it. If you haven't got the sack to do what you like, without worrying what anyone else thinks, you should just give up on life right now. That's flippin' pathetic.

i have shaved my arms and legs for years and no one has ever commented negetively. i compete in one or two triathlons per year so that is somewhat of an excuse although im not even competitive; just do it to stay in shape and have fun. for the record cyclists shave mostly so that if you crash, you dont end up picking all the hair out of the road rash. it is much easier to clean a shaved leg than i hairy one. i would know i have spent some time on the asphalt, believe me. plus if you show up at a race with hairly legs people dont take you seriously. that has always been my excuse if asked. but suprisingly few people even take notice.

Again, I had the same fears, but again, they were mostly my own self-imposed prison of fears.
Many men shave their legs for all sorts of reasons. I read an article about a Major League Baseball player that shaves everything from the neck down. There are men who find hair on a body an unsightly image.
I've been shaving for about five years. I do everything I can reach, excpet my arms. I still like my arm hairs in boy mode. But you know even before I started to shave, I began loosing the hair on my lower legs. The area where I wore my dress socks since they weren't getting alot of ciculation and air. So, it's no big deal.
Go on and shave. It'll shave dressing time. :D

Ive been shaving my legs for a few years now and I dont think about so much what others think. Funny though, its one of the few things my wife saids nothing about. I was at a gun show this morning in shorts and birkenstocks and no one there said anything nor looked at me strange at all. My legs , feet and toes were completely smooth. Now , try to get my wife to let me get my ears percied, that turns into a not so pleasant conversation.

I have been shaving my legs for over three years now, and during he summer I wear shorts and no one has noticed, that I am aware of, nor have they ever commited on it. It seems to me that most people don't notice men's legs as much as we look at women's legs. Also I have noticed that many men as they get older loose the hai on their legs.
So I would say shave your legs and enjoy, and I'll bet no one will notice, except your loving wife. Who by the way will most likely enjoy the feel of your freshly shaved legs. don't forget to use a body lotion on them to help make them even more smoother.

I shave my legs EVERY day, and usually I have my toes/fingernails painted. No matter if I'm dressed in mens clothes, or it's afterhours and I'm ALL dolled up, I'm shaved and painted. I won't have it any other way. Hardly anyone notices. Here's something fun to do....I trim my arm hair down very low also. Take a closer notice at just how many men have no arm/leg hair. I was supprised! :daydreaming:

I strongly disagree that people don't notice -- if you watch people's eyes (try to do so discreetly), lots of people do notice when a guy shaves his legs. I see people picking up on it all the time -- friends, strangers in stores, etc. The fact that my legs are pretty slender and girly and really tan might also have something to do with it. But like all the other gurls who've posted in this thread, I've never had anyone comment or question me about it, and people really do not care. But if someone ever did inquire, my answer(s) would probably be --
Bicycling is my main way of working out, and while I'm not a hardcore racer worried about wind resistance, spandex biking shorts are a lot more comfortable if your legs are shaved.
If you need to tape an ankle or knee when working out, shaving is obviously desirable, and it looks pretty weird to just shave one area and leave the rest hairy.
As I've gotten older, my leg hair has gotten a little spotty, especially on my lower shins and calves. I hate the way that looks, so I just shave my legs all over.
I shave my legs cuz I like 'em that way! If that makes me a metrosexual, so be it.

This is totally true. People not telling you is not the same than people not noticing or not commenting on your back...
You've got a lot of responses here, I'm just going to reinforce much of what has already been said.
The last two summers, I have kept my leg hair short or non-existent. Everyone is right, most people don't notice, don't care or don't say anything. I did have a couple people say something but I am learning something about life, people make a big deal out of something if you do. If they ask about it and you start to squirm then that's when they get suspicious. But if you confidently say, "I like it that way, it helps me beat the heat" and then leave it at that, then it passes and it's gone.
And if they press it, which they won't, then throw it back on them. "Why are you so concerned about my leg hair? It's kind of creepy..."
And the truth is, I honestly do like them better without hair. I don't like the summer heat and I can really notice a difference without leg hair, it helps me beat the heat so I can confidently say that it helps me beat the heat and leave it that.
Just do it, you'll be nervous and self-conscious at first but after awhile you'll realize that it's not a big deal.

I keep mine shaved and wear shorts most of the time and almost all winter while in AZ. I have have two comments in over five years, the first was because I cut my leg pretty good and a lady friend commented on it. Last week my daughter was here and we were sitting on the deck and she asked do you wax your legs, my instant response was sure then said only kidding I just do not grow much body hair. Nothing else was said about it.

My reply to my shaved legs and arms is: I need to apply SPF 60 when I am out playing golf in shorts, and short sleeve shirts. Try putting that on with hairy legs and arms. Have a great day. Charla

Shaved legs = Run faster!
I have been shaving mine for several years now. Had only a few even notice and it was really no biggy.
Hugs!

Yes. That's true. I'm a runner, and the only time I shaved my legs I ran much faster, so people wouldn't notice that I shaved my legs :D

I was worried about it before I did it, but guess what? No one cares. And if they do, screw 'em. There's way more important things to be concerned about.

How about this plan: just freaking do it and stop caring what others think.
My sentiments exactly. There is waaayyy to much of this going on. Just do it. If you want to wear panties 24/7......just do it. If you want to underdress....just do it. If you want to buy something at a store (lingerie, make-up, etc,...) just do it!!!!!!!
Man o man, sometimes I read these topics and I just want to rip what hair I have left on my head right out.

Off topic, but I want to do this when I see the same topic 3 or 4 times in different threads right on the front page! There is a search function for a reason.

I say just do it. You will love it. I remember the first time I went swimming with a clean shaved pair of legs. It felt great! The water on my bare skin, so nice and cool and refreshing.
As far as others noticing? Nah, everyone is just so worked up about themselves they don't pay any attention to others.

i just stopped caring what other people think, when my legs are shaved and im at the pool or something or just wearing shorts nobody ever notices/cares enough to ask so i just go on with my day

Pickies!!!! that's the key. If you do not want any extra attention do not show any pickies. Pickies are a dead give away. So if you shave keep um clean and smooth. That's what you want anyway isn't it. Clean and smooth. So go for it! It's easier than you think. You may be self conscious for a wile but it will fade when you realize that now one cares about your legs.

I started the shaving like two years ago and now, I'm doing laser. After the first session the results are so nice. Can't wait to go next time. So in my opinion.. go for it, of course.
