Mother has just telephoned and explained she'll be busy and not able to go to town tomorrow.
Today, she saw a skirt she likes and asked if I'd buy it for her.
I said I would.

Is that what you want to do, considering your present state of doubt?

Just an idea...
Buy the skirt, and when you give it to her, casually say something along the lines of 'Nice skirt! In fact it's so nice I had to try it on myself!'
Then watch her reaction - if ng, then you smoothly pass it off as a joke.
Might do, might do. Ya think?

Or you could say "nice skirt so nice I bought one for me too".

A black knee length pencil skirt.
Visited mother, she tried it on and asked if it suited her, to which I told her it did.
She made no comment or joke about me trying it on and also, in the past, I've given her free samples of make-up and discount vouchers for make-up I've received via mail/post.
So far, the only thing mentioned was when we were about to go swimming in a friend's pool and I couldn't find my swimming shorts. Mother jokingly said 'If you can't find them, you could wear one of my old swmming costumes'.
I laughed it off, but said nothing.
