HELP I need some support and encouragement…….
After many months of dreaming and several weeks of planning and a bit of sheer luck; I'm finally only 2 days away from achieving one of my goals. High on my list of New Years resolutions was to fly to San Francisco en femme and spend several days without the drab.
Early in August I was presented with the opportunity to attend a 3 day business conference in San Francisco 9/15 -17 ; provided I coupled it with a meeting with a client I have in the Bay Area. Of course I jumped at the chance knowing that I could slip out early every day, get prettied up and hit the town with my dear friend Allie.
Plans were made, plane tickets were purchased (up on Tuesday morning back on Thursday afternoon), rental car reserved, hotel reservations made, the conference registration paid for and the client meeting was set for the first day. Then at the last minute the client canceled the meeting! The money is already spent so I have to go. And now my devious mind began to plan.
The new goal being to fly up, check into my hotel, attend the conference and of course hit the town at night all en femme! So I’ve moved my plane departure to later in the morning to allow time to properly dress. And now I’m thinking and rethinking what to wear for the flight, how the TSA screening will go, getting my seat on the airplane (Southwest Airlines) rental car desk, hotel check in, conference check in, etc. etc. etc. My mind is racing and my stomach if flipping even as I write this.
This will be a trip for my record books loaded with “Firsts”. I’ve asked my GG friend Holly to please come over Tuesday morning to meet Megan for the first time but, more importantly to check my look to ensure I’m reasonably well dressed and my makeup is acceptable. She’s very accepting and supportive so her presence will be a great help and hopefully calming. I don’t really care if I “PASS” I just want to be presentable as a trans-gendered person.
There will be loads of pictures and lots of stories to come over the next few days. But right now I’m just freaking out. Help….

Megan, it seems like you have everything well thought out and planned. The biggest obstacle is usually our own fear; however, I totally understand your feelings. We think about the worse thing that could happen, but it rarely, if ever, happens. If you go out and present yourself with confidence and strength, you should not have any problems. San Francisco is an extremely tolerant and friendly city so it should be the least of your concerns.
Take a deep breath, channel your inner girl and go out there like it is the most natural thing in the world. I'm sure you will return to lots of great stories about your fabulous time.
this sounds like so much fun! i think you'll have an amazing time for sure,,,and it does sound like you're planning too. I wouldn't worry too much about the logistics of it all if thats possible,,and just enjoy yourself. Everybody deserves to be respected for who they are,, so getting out and showing the world who we really are is a way of highlighting our existence. Honestly i have so much respect for you, i think it's amazing and i hope that you have a wonderful trip.

I spend a few days in San Francisco every year, the food is great, the art galleries are magnificent, there are venues with wonderful music the ballpark is beautiful. And you can do it all in a dress! You are going to have a good trip, the only thing to be concerned about is that it will be over all too soon.

It sounds to me like you have a perfectly reasonable goal, and perfectly reasonable expectations. Several of us fly quite a lot - you have nothing to worry about. They will treat you well and with respect.
Just remember that you are subject to all of the same concerns that women are and be prepared for that. Check most of your makeup. Any liquid or gel type makeup (foundation and lipstick) needs to be in a little zip lock and put on the Xray belt separate.
Remember that you will have to remove your shoes so if you wear a pair with lots of buckles or straps your gonna have to deal with them.
Take off your jewelry before going through the metal detector.
All the same things you have done as a guy, but you are probably not used to thinking about your makeup and jewelry. lol

Kimberly thank you so much.
I would never have contemplated this trip without your example and inspiration. Hearing such nice things from an experienced traveler like yourself is very calming.
Thanks

Ok Megan, the car is washed inside and out, I now have a spare tire and a new used interiror rear view mirro, I promise to dress nicely and to brush my teeth, Cissy will be there too, reservations made for La Colonial at 7:15, a great French-Vietnamese restaurant hidden on a small street (Cosmo) right downtown near Union Square. Is that enough incentive for you? Are you ready for 2 days of fun in SF? Cissy and I are.
On a serious note, I am so proud of what you are doing, flying en femme and then attending a conference en femme too. I hope that I get an opportuntity to fly that way too in the future. Knowing you from our previous out on towns in SF and San Jose, I think that you will have no problem making this trip a great success. I know that you deserve it. I can't wait to hear all the details when we meet. :hugs: :hugs: :D

Megan,
I'm so looking forward to seeing you and Allie tomorrow night! I've never flown en femme, the closest I got was taking the Metroliner from NY to DC, at least I could move around although I was lucky with my seatmate, being strapped in next to a total stranger sounds daunting! Open seating, so maybe your best bet is to look for a nice old lady to sit next to? Godspeed, gir! We will toast you tomorrow night,
Cissy

One little vignette from our outing: I went outside the restaurant after dinner to use my cell phone, on the way back in I saw this really attractive girl standing by the door, it wasn't till I got closer that I realized OMG: it's Megan!
