So depending where you are at, it is National Coming Out Day. It appears to me that most of the coming out stories are either because someone has been or is about to be found out or that the time is right to make it happen.

Is there anyone here that is using Coming Out Day as an incentive to come out to anyone?

Probably not. At least not until we start getting discounts on shoes, clothes and makeup at the big "Coming Out Day" sales over at Nordstroms.

I'm seriously considering it (still the 10th for me). I'm relatively certain that my mom will be completely indifferent as she's dropped numerous hints that she is about homosexuality, and I have expressed indirectly that I'm bisexual and our relationship hasn't suffered any. In fact she's stumbled across my porn and toys on at least three occasions and made light of it every time. Considering that I've only known my stepdad for about a year, I'm intent on getting her alone and bringing up the topic and going from there. I'm sure he thinks the same way, but I'm not sure what he would think if he knew that I was wearing his daughter's old clothes.

[EDIT]

Well, I preempted coming out day and made mom pull over at the shopette on the way home from getting dinner and told her. As I suspected, she was completely indifferent to my crossdressing, and as impeccable as her memory is, she knew at the very least that I was at the panties stage. When we were moving to hawaii she went looking for a book in my suitcase and stumbled across some of my panties as well as my big blue buddy (use your imagination) so she knew I wasn't a normal boy. Felt good to tell her, so I definitely won't have to be explaining any clothes or panties or other things she might glance in my room, nor question the pink disposable razor in my bathroom. We both agreed though that she would let me do the job of telling my stepdad Tony after I've gotten my own clothes. I don't think he'd care much about it, but knowing that I'm wearing his daughter's old high school wardrobe...that might pose some complications. At least now I know that if I tell her I want to buy some new outfits (completely legitimate since I haven't gotten any new clothes in a year or two) she won't be bothered by me buying some panties, bras, bra pads, and skirts/jeans/tops/etc. She didn't mind that I coopted her makeup basket either, since she despises wearing makeup. The benefits definitely outweigh the consequences.

My time was right 3 years ago when I came out to my wife. It was that I just needed out. And made it out rather nicely she even helps with some things.:hugs:

It sounds like a pretty daft idea to me.

I'm already "out" to my immediate family and closest friends and as an Out-and-About girl I'm pretty much prepared to come out more fully.

From my observations of other TG friends and personal experiences, once you start going out in public, the wheels are pretty much set in motion and coming out more fully seems to become inevitable. Coming out is hard, but if you are going to be a public T-Girl, hiding becomes a lot harder. I would never push anyone into coming out-we all have our own situations-, but I greatly encourage it.

I'm still not out to many folks, such as work and extended family. Right now there's no need to and coming out to those who have no need to know could possibly create more of a burden for myself. I am however ready to explain and be open if anyone was to find out or discover my other life. In my position I doubt very many people would be very surprised to discover I'm a T-Girl.

If anyone is thinking of, or decides to, "come out" to anyone today, I wish you the best of luck. The best advice I can give is to remember that coming out is not an event that's over and done with in one day. It's a process. It's on going. It's going to take time for loved ones to absorb what's you tell them and understand. It's going to take time for you to adjust your own attitude and life. Coming out is merely the first step in a longer journey.

Best wishes everyone, and be true to yourself, that's all you must be.

This is the perfect month for CDs -- the 31st is Halloween, the 11th is National Coming Out Day, and the 10th is Ed Wood's Birthday!

I had planned on coming out to my wife's freind this weekend. She was supposed to come over Saturday night and stay through Sunday, but she wasn't feeling well, and stayed home. I probably would have chickened out again, for the 3rd time, anyway.

Remember the most famous stage production in America of Peter Pan, Peter was played by Mary Martin, and latter it was done by another Actress.

I actually hadn't heard of Coming Out Day until I read this topic. Personally, though, I think I might postpone it for a few weeks.

A GG friend of mine (who lives all the way across the country from me) has been helping me pick out a CD outfit for Halloween. As we've been talking about it, she's mentioned that she enjoys helping men crossdress. After the holiday, depending on how things go, I'm considering coming out to her fully. But only time will tell...

EDIT: And apparently I kill threads. >_>

Hi I'm Roberta I always been a closet gurl but this time with the help of a close friend who gave me a makeover I went to my 40th highschool reunion as Roberta. Being fully figured with my corset seamed stockings and 4 inch heels I borrowed from my friend she made it happen. Also I borrowed her red satin cocktail dress. When I said who I was and they gave me my xerox boy picture of me I surprised them all.And did I have alot of dances too. This year I went alone but I came out who I really wanted to be and that was Roberta. being 47 years a closet gurl and this time I finally came out. Love to all Roberta. (come out don't delay.Let your inner dreams come true.)

Nope...I'm only out to one person right now, and for me that's enough and within my comfort level. May change in the future, bit not right now. :)

I missed "coming out day"? No one sent me a card, no phone calls? Does making an artificial day actually make people come out? "Gee I'd like to tell someone, but it isn't coming out day"

Reminds me of the Andy Griffith episode where the two "spinsters" only made moonshine for special days. If you need an excuse to come out, you aren't ready.

Happy Potato Day :drink:

National Coming Out Day? Was that the first of October? If it was then I hit it squarely on the head and my co-workers think I did hit my head, LOL. I started my RLE on the first of the month and have been dressed everyday for work. It is fun, exciting and a challenge as my work is hands on building repair and equipment repair for athletics. I work at a University and my area is five buildings, one half million square feet and the fields. So I cannot wear skirts and heels, wooohoooo, but the university and co=workers have not quit yapping. LOL

Who declared the National coming out day.
If you 'come out' can you have the day off?

I came out to my "ex" wife 12 years ago. Since then I have come out to many more people, friends, family, neighbors. I go out in public dressed en femme all the time. For me it seems everyday is coming out day.

I have no idea as to where the idea of "National Coming Out Day" came from but I, for one, think that is is a lot like all of the "Card Holidays" promoted by Hallmark. Anyone who is thinking of "coming out" needs to be fully prepared and believe that the timing is right.
