The other day I was at my dad's place (I'm unemployed for the most part until I can get some more time in my workshop) doing some work for him, and he told me I needed to cut my hair. He'd said that when I was cashing a check my grandmother wrote me, the bank called her to check into things, and he thought that my hair looked disreputable. (It couldn't have possibly been that she writes checks and things on an old timey type writer? )
Well, after talking things over with my fiancee, we agreed that we couldn't lose the support from all the work I do for him... so I had to cut my hair.
I'm my own barber, and I must have put the shears up to my hair 4 times before actually starting to cut.
My fiancee did say that I had a sort of 'pixie' look going on now, but I don't really see it, I see old me again.. siiigh...
Just had to vent a little. I hate having to put 'me' on hold, but I understand it's not a economy to chase dreams in...

Yes, because lying is so much more reputable.
I'm so glad my parents are dead.

i don't know weather to lmao or cry. I hate how someone could treat their own child so badly for that statment to arise.
Anyway it is sad that you had to cut your hair, but while you are not fully transitioned you are going to run into instances where haveing long hair is not professional in male mode and it conjures up images of Sex, Drugs, and rock and roll. I myself just quit a job that made we cut it. Putting food on the table is the first priorty. squeeze in the rest later.

Well... I'm an aspiring bladesmith / crafter o' stuff, hoping to get my little business rolling... but my father doesn't have faith that it will come to fruition any time soon... so he's preparing me to go get a 'real job' ..My fiancee and I are sort of keeping the fact that I don't plan on getting a job outside the home/shop from him until I'm making enough to pay rent, etc...
So, I don't think my hair length is an issue, I'm my boss and I think it looks professional enough, so long as it's tied up and not pulling my face into the grinder :heehee:
Much as I hate having had to cut my hair, I'm blessed to have such a supportive fiancee. She agrees with my theory that it would be better for me to have my own business, rather than rely on the tolerance of southern employers :p
Thanks for hearing my rant out ^_^;;

Oh man. The hair battles I had with my Dad. In the age of Woodstock (can't believe I am that old) I grew my hair long (said it was because it was the new age), wore hip hugger bell bottom jeans (bought off the girls rack because I thought they fit better) and artsy French cut t shirts (aka womens t's) or peasant shirts (aka womens blouses) and looked pretty hippie/artist/rock and roller avante garde. My Dad yielded to the mane of hair I wore from Woodstock into the 80's and didn't disown me - hair is 'small stuff' at the end of the day.
In hind sight I was unconsciously balancing an internal desire to transition and big time denial about what I really wanted - there was no way Lou Reed was singing about me walking on that wild side . . . . it took me years to come clean with myself.
You are way ahead of me in self acceptance. Your Dad obviously cares about you a great deal, and in the end I imagine he too will think hair is 'the small stuff.' I hope it all works out in the long run considering the 'bigger stuff' you still have to cover with him.
hugs,
'lissa

Long hair on males is making a comeback. I just pull mine back into a pony tail and no one questions it whether at home or at work.
Last time I cut mine I was in tears and vowed never again unless I was the one who wanted it. To hell with the others and their opinions.
Best of luck.

Sorry to hear about your hair. I would break down emotionally if I had to cut my hair.
Be strong.

Sorry, that's a bummer. I don't know what it is about long hair that causes problems when some of our parents were coming of age in the 60's and themselves had long hair. I know it was a different time, but c'mon...
The decision probably is best for now, and although it doesn't seem like it, time really is on your side...
Also, yay for supportive people in your life. That just makes the whole thing so much easier.
