Hi Girls,

I haven't posted anything about myself on here in quite some time. I have been going through a rough patch since February. Been out of work and moving among other things. I have been wanting to go see a therapist but the closest one was at least 100 miles away and with everything going on I could not afford it. I felt like I was never going to get my issues resolved.
Then last week while reading the local LGBT magazine I saw an article about free help. I called on Monday and set up an appointment for Wednesday. I had never done this before and was so anxious I felt like I was going to have a panic attack.
Well I wen't there yesterday for my initial consultation. It was really unnerving telling someone something that only my wife knows. It was almost like when I told her for the first time. He agreed that I do need some help and he is going to see me 3 more times in the coming weeks. As I don't have the money to go I am thankful that there are still people willing to help out.
Without the support of everyone on this site I probably would never have done this. I appreciate each and every one of you. :hugs:

Congrats. Yes, it is unnerving to go the first time, but well worth it. I have found that there are many out there who are willing to help out, for whatever reason. My therepists usally charges $120 but, I pay her $50.

has this person ever worked with a trans person before? If he has no or little experiance it could be bolth a good thing and a bad. He you have an opportunity of educating, but you run the risk of not getting the help you need.

Wish you the best of luck.

That is so wonderful Tracie, mine is covered under health insurance but the two hour drive each way and the parking is not. You are right when you say the telling of your inner most secret to a stranger can be unnerving but you will be better served if you do. Good luck on your journey, it is always good to have someone to walk with as I'm doing mine also.

Congratulations, Tracie! I remember how wrought with angst I was the first time as well. My therapist initially had very little knowledge with TG issues when we first met. Since that time she has become pretty well up on the whole matter. She's even sponsored a local Trans workshop for the other local therapists.

So, if your therapist is not quite up to speed on TG issues, you can help him to get there! It can be good for both of you. Just make sure he listens to you and your issues.

Thanks all. Dawn he deals more with sexuality issues but has contact with people in Baltimore and Philly. He's really up for helping me and learning more about gender issues. At this point he is all that I have and I am thankful for that.:)

Awwww, that's heartwarming. Here's hoping you continue to find what you need. And I don't think we're going anywhere!

Hugs,

Melissa:)
