View Full Version : Great Outlet mall experience!

As people who have seen posts from me on here already know, I've made a real effort this year to be as open and confident with my dressing as I can, including wearing skirts even in male mode and trying on clothes in stores and have asked SA's what they think of how a skirt would go with a particular top, and once a couple weeks even asked after stepping out of a dressing room carrying two skirts, which one the girl thought worked better with the coat I had on.

But today I had maybe my boldest shopping experience yet. I had to go to Cleveland for some training at a different store location for my new job, and I was driving back down to Columbus and stopped off at an outlet mall, mostly to kill time so I wouldn't hit rush hour when I came home. I went into the Gap, but didn't see anything I wanted, so went out to walk around a bit more.

so I walk down and come across the Vanity Fair women's store and I was just thinking the other day how I should get some new pairs of panties, So I walk in, the place is pretty dead, there's just like two girls working and one of them leaves. The other one is just lounging around a bit, and I'm looking at a rack of some plain satin ones cause I'm not looking for anything too flashy, just stuff I can wear under my clothes on normal days, and I realize, hey I'm not really sure what size I am not because of my weight loss, I haven't bought any panties since then. I used to go between a L and XL at VS depending on the cut, but even when I was heavier the XLs were usually too big.

So I finally just say to the salesgirl "hey, do you have like a chart or guide to determine panty size if someone isn't sure?" cause they were all sized as like, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. and I've never really gotten how that corresponds to womens clothing sizes So she comes over and she's like "what's the pant size, do you know?" and I said "like 10-12, leaning towards 10"and she said "I think the 2x's might work" and I knew that was waaay too big So I just said that, "I think those would probably be way too big"
9:15 PMand she said "Well, how old is the person they're for?" and I thought about it and realized, hey she doesn't know me and I'll probably never see her again, plus I'm looking to spend my money here, so I just went "Well, they're for me."

And then she just kind of nodded and said "ok, well then this is going to sound creepy, but can you turn around so I can look at you from the back?" So I did that and then she said she thought I'd be a medium or large, which was a 6 or 7, and then she said "But if you want to be sure, the fitting rooms are right over there."

I was shocked. I couldn't believe she so casually just suggested I try them on, because I certainly never would have asked to do that, I sort of always felt like underwear was a no no in that regard, but since she was so comfortable with offering it up, I took advantage of it. I was glad I'd worn panties today instead of boxers because I could get a better idea of how they'd fit over them, and I ended up buying four pairs, which is more than I'd planned on but three of them together were $10.50 and the fourth I just liked the material and color, but also I was just so happy with the treatment I was given that I wanted to spend some money there.

Trying on panties is a no-no. The SA did show her side though (proffessional). Good for you.

That is really cool that you have the courage to tell them that the panties were for you....wish I had that kind of courage! It is good to hear that you had a good experience shopping for yourself, also...clothes are a hard one for me...I'd have a hard time asking to use the fitting room. Makeup I can do...still a little stressful for me, but I can buy make up...by myself...going to an SA is another story. Anyway, way to go! I am happy for you!

Trying on panties is a no-no.

This is a good rule. Nobody wants to buy panties that someone else has had on. And in some places, it's illegal. However, if you keep your own panties ON while you do this it's not so bad. In the old days, when I was much younger, they used to have little paper panties you could put on BEFORE trying on new underwear.

I buy my panties through the internet now as I know what I want and what size I need. With each pair comes a little note saying "If you think you might want to return these, try them on ONLY over another pair of yours".

I have had SA's ask me, while I was shopping for panties, if I was wearing panties and after learning that I was, telling that I was welcome to try panties on as long as I did not take mine off. BTW, I was a guy in a skirt each time this happened. Once in a VS store, once in a Nordstrom's, and the third time in an Avenue store! The SA in the Nordstrom store had already fitted me for a bra and of course saw the pink lacy one I was wearing!

Well Ryan, it sounds like a great experience to me. For some, admitting to an SA the first time isn't a big deal. But for others, it can be real tough. Hopefully it makes it easier for the next time and who knows what you may be having them help you with next.

Sheesh people, give me some credit here! I kept my own panties on underneath. Even if common sense wouldn't have told me that, which it did, there were signs in the dressing room saying as much.

I likely won't need to try another pair on for a long time now because I know what size fits again. My only concern is with Victoria's Secret because I usually treat myself to a few new pairs of panties every december when the Semi-annual sale starts up online as a sort of christmas/bday gift to myself, and I've always gotten larges before, now I wonder if I should get mediums or stick with the larges. I'd hate to buy a few pairs and then have them all be too big or too small.

It's best to be up front with the sales people as you were. I'll admit, it would be very difficult to turn down an opportunity like you had. I'd try to shop in her dept again.
I have tried on a girdle in a lingerie store over panties and pantyhose but when a VS sales girl wanted to give me matching panties to try on with a bra I picked out, I turned her down. Actually didn't realize that she wanted me to try them on until I thought about it. If I had realized she was offering to hve me try it on, not sure if I could have said no. I did try the bra however.

Lol..... That's pretty cool... My luck I'd go try on a pair of panties and the health inspector would show up..
