View Full Version : Rubber Band Days

Tomorrow's another rubberband day.
It's just for fun.
Express yourself and watch for others who may be sisters from this forum.
I'll be wearing mine.
Despite the fact that few people reported having seen wrists bearing rubber bands last Friday, I think that the idea was a good one, so I think that we ought to do it on every Friday.
If you're interested, just try it? Who knows!

Why not every Friday? I'm too impatient to wait for that one Friday a month. :)

I'm all for wearing a rubber band every Friday but why don't we take it one step farther and agree on a specific color too. The reason I'm suggesting this is because I've seen store clerks wearing rubber bands that could possibly be used for their job. If we all were to wear a color that was uncommon to others, our sisters would be more recognizable.

I agree. 52X a year kind of takes away the "unigueness". Once a month (first Fri) is a great compromise, esp if we all wore the same color. The initial enthusiasm is great but I guarantee after a few weeks a lot of us will either forget or just not bother, esp if they see no one else wearing one....

Just out of curiosity. What's wrong with Pink. I wear a pink rubber band everyday that's say's dream on it. Never get two looks form anyone. Everyone just assumes it's for Breast cancer research. Been on my wrist for month's and I mean month's.

But by the way. Lavender is the color for Transvestites and CD's, not pink

Despite the fact that few people reported having seen wrists bearing rubber bands last Friday, I think that the idea was a good one, so I think that we ought to do it on one Friday every month. Anybody interested in trying it?

Well, I wear mine every time I go out, but I’ll go along with anything you girls say…:)
Let's all sing David Bowie's "Rubber Band" while we discretely display our hidden feminine proclivities:

Rubber Band
There's a rubber band that plays tunes out of tune
In the library garden Sunday afternoon
While a little chappie waves a golden wand

Rubber Band
In 1910 I was so handsome and so strong
My moustache was stiffly waxed and one foot long
And I loved a girl while you played teatime tunes

Dear Rubber Band, you're playing my tune out of tune, oh

Rubber Band
Won't you play a haunting theme again to me
While I eat my scones and drink my cup of tea
The sun is warm but it's a lonely afternoon

Oh, play that theme

Rubber Band
How I wish that I could join your Rubber Band
We could play in lively parks throughout the land
And one Sunday afternoon, I'd find my love

Rubber Band,
In the '14-'18 war I went to sea
Thought my Sunday love was waiting home for me
And now she's married to the leader of the band, oh

Oh sob... I hope you break your baton

Not a song about crossdressing, but definitely a catchy tune...:heehee:

I made the same suggestion as you last week, just before the official day. It was a recomendation for wearing the rubber band the second friday of every month. I think it's a great idea.

Well pink is often the trademark for breast cancer awareness. Folks may think a pink band is in suppport of that.
I like the lavender idea

I will wear my rubberband on every Friday just because it's to difficult to keep track of so many other things during the month, Heck I may wear a rubberband on my left wrist on Monday, OMG, I hate rules.:tongueout

I found a wide rubber band and a set of colored permanent markers and made a special band for last Friday. It's not a great job and I know I could do better if I took some time, but it was easy to do and would be very easy to identify.

AmberLynn
11-18-2009, 12:31 PM
Lavender is a good color as well :heehee: we should organize a rubber band night for new years eve :drink: everyone will most likely be moving amoung the crowd that night. and whats wrong with pink for breast cancer awareness? help a good cause and show your a cd,just double up the bands lol

Wow! I'm excited that there is so much interest and enthusiasm. I'll start wearing a rubber band on my left wrist this Friday and every Friday from then on. And I'll look for lavender or pink rubber bands, but I think that any rubber band will do--a girl's got to do the best she can. For those who prefer to do it on select Fridays, no problem--take your pick. And for all of us, pass the word.
How fun!

Don't get me wrong, I think breast cancer is a very worthy cause to support.
All I'm saying is, if you wear pink on it's own, that's the message you're sending.
By all means wer pink if ya want to, but also add a purple/lavender if you want to send our message as well:hugs:

Okay girls, the question I have is - now that you've got your rubber band, where do you plan to go to see-and-be-seen?

I don't think I'm going to wear it at work. My I.T. guy seems a little too flirty lately, so I think he knows something. Also, in this job market, I don't know that I want to be 'out' to my colleagues. Unfortunately, it could be a risk.

I'm thinking some shopping at the mall, maybe hit the bookstore or the coffee shop...

What about you???

I just ordered a custom made, Lance armstrong style silicone bracelet from https://24hourwristbands.com/ It's glow in the dark purple, with "TGIF" debossed on the front and "DRESSED FOR SUCCESS" debossed on the back. I was going to go for lavender, a stock color, until I saw the glow in the dark option. I think for an extra fee, you could have it made up in the colors that Stormgirl linked to. The whole thing cost me $8.29. $3.59 of that was shipping and I opted for finishing in the USA instead of China, so that was an additional $.15. Free production is a 5 day lead time and with the 6 day shipping, I should have it in about two weeks. I will post a picture in this thread after I receive it.

I decided to put "dressed for success" on the back as I was trying to think of some kind of obscure slogan. I thought of "TV/CD" and a couple of other things, but I wanted something discreet for myself as I can't really let myself be outed publicly where I live.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the best thing I found was they accept PayPal, so I didn't have to put it on my credit card!

I have had some thoughts on this... See what everyone thinks...

I thought we should adopt a black rubber band. Here is why? I know black is usually associated with death or mourning. That is not what I mean. As I have been out the last two Fridays with my rubber band of no significant color, I have seen yellow, red, pink. I wonder if they are CDers, but realize it is unlikely. All of those colors have some other significance. We all love a Black Dress, so why not. Black, as far as I know, is not taken by anything else, and would stand out as different.

If in doubt, and you see someone else with a rubber band on, play with the band, snap it... something to say, "I see yours, do you see mine?"

I am just suggesting. If anyone has any other thoughts, it would be great. I would like to know what everyone thinks of my ideas.

Half being males = 300 million and say 75% over 18..... = 225 million ). and say all 500 wear their rubber band... That's 1 in 450 thousand... Not good odds you will ever see anyone else with one unless we just all meet at someones house Friday and look at each other! Who has a room that will handle 500?? Lol.

I saw a rubber band lying on the floor down on level one of our building so I suspect it fell off someone left wrist so I'm on a mission to find out whom... I keep looking for someone with a purple hand..... From too many tight rubber bands but so far no success... Wait!! Someone just dashed by my office door... Never mind...... She didn't have a wrist band on but she was wearing a really cute skirt!! :)

I'm in for Friday...though statistically I'm more likely to see a two-headed banjo-playing squirrel than another CD'er.
Though, I'd love to be proven wrong!

I am in on Fridays too (although I really like some of the other suggestions, like everyday, and if one is so inclined, slapping a bra on over your shirt--LOL!), and now I can say that I saw one other person wearing a rubber band on his wrist last Friday. It was during a meeting and I couldn't make contact with individual.
I know that the odds are against seeing someone who is actually wearing the rubber band because of being a crossdresser, but the odds are zero if people don't do it. So I'll just go ahead and raise the odds by some tiny, infinitesimally small increment and enjoy the thought that someone else is out there in the cosmos doing the same thing.

I love this idea. I do not want to be a women. BUT I support equality and self-expression from one end of the gender spectrum to the other. I think it'd be satisfying and reassuring to wear the band.

Got my band I had made up in the mail on Thursday, put it on that day as soon as I opened the package, slept with it on and wore it all day Friday. It takes a lot of sunlight to get it to glow in the dark. Just tried to charge it under a lamp for a few minutes to try to take a picture of it glowing but the web cam won't show the image in the dark. Anyway, I've attached a couple of snaps. On one side, it says "TGIF" and on the other it says "DRESSING FOR SUCCESS." They both read the same side up, the band was flipped on my wrist between shots which is why the power beads are on opposite sides of the band in the pictures. I like how it turned out so much that I may wear it every day.

i'm new... what and when is it

linnea
12-11-2009, 07:57 AM
The idea, Rebecca, is to wear a rubber band on your wrist on Fridays. If you see someone with a rubber band, you may recognize that that person is a crossdresser. You don't have to do anything, although if there is an opportunity you might start a conversation with that individual or that person might start a conversation with you. [U]But it's not about making a big deal or outing anyone to the world--just a way of possibly meeting, possibly discovering another crossdresser through subtle self-identification.[U] As some of the girls here have noted, it's a long shot. You may wear a rubber band on your wrist and never see another one all day. Or you may see someone else with a rubber band on her wrist and the rubber band will have nothing to do with crossdressing.
But maybe, just maybe, it will be one of us girls and MAYBE you'll find a girlfriend.
Or maybe you'll just limit the blood flow to your left hand--LOL!
Some girls have found fancy rubber bands to wear; some wear just a plain, old light brown version.
It's totally optional, and not everyone participates or likes the idea.
So suit yourself.
I've been wearing a rubber band every Friday for the last month or so, and I just think that it's a fun idea (but I've seen only one other person with a rubber banded wrist and I didn't have a way to make contact with that individual, so I don't know if she was another CD or not).
That's what I know about it.
Have fun.

That's the problem with doing this in wintertime...There could have been dozens of rubber band wrists at the mall last Friday, but everyone (including me) had long sleeves on. What do we need...a sign? "I am a crossdresser...live with it!"

Either we're rarer than we thought, or people just don't know about rubberband days. I'm sure there are more CDers in my non-so-little southern NH town, but to the best of my knowledge I'm the only resident on-line here. So maybe the rest just haven't gotten the word.

Out at lunch today, I did see a big guy with something that looked like a ladies' wrist watch on his right wrist, but I suspect it may have been a medical ID bracelet. At the next table over was a guy who should have been wearing a rubberband. :) He definitely had some sort of sparkly gold ring on, and if that was his watch and not a bracelet I'd have been surprised. :)

My husband (who so far hasn't posted to this forum) has his rubber band on today. We're going to the mall a little later. But in our town of about 45,000 I don't know what the odds are that someone else has seen this forum and is wearing a rubber band.

who invented rubberband day? is it worldwide?

I don't know who invented it, and I doubt that it extends for any distance that could be considered world-wide. I just thought that it was a fun idea, and even though the odds and the weather, at least the wintry weather, are against us, I enjoy giving it a try. It does not take much effort, so in that respect it's an easy thing to do.
I didn't see anyone else with a rubber band on today, but another person asked me about it and when I said, "This is just a reminder of something that I like to do," he said, "That's a good idea: I think that I should do that too."
I think that that's a maybe. We are co-workers but in different departments and when we met there wasn't much time to start a discussion. But next Friday, I'm going to make a point of crossing his path and checking his wrist.

Tomorrow is Friday, and I'm urging everyone to wear a rubber band or several rubberbands--colorful ones if you like--on your left wrist (or both wrists). And watch for others who might be doing the same thing.
Many girls have responded that they will be doing it; many have responded that they think that it's a long shot. It probably is a long shot that you will spot someone else wearing a rubberband, but I hope that you'll try it anyway. It costs almost nothing, and it doesn't do any harm that I know of (unless your rubber band is too tight or you put it around your neck or some other precarious area).
I'll be looking for you!

The next two Fridays are Christmas and New Year's Day respectively; I planned to wear a rubber band on my wrist on Christmas and on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (I'll be around a lot of people, mostly strangers to me on NY eve and day). If I can find green and red rubber bands, I'll wear two on Christmas. For New Year's eve and day, maybe it should be silver and gold. All of those may be hard to find.
Any suggestions?

I'm going to wear a green one on St. Patrick's day and a red one on Valentine's day. If I can find one that has flowers printed on it, I'll wear that for May Day and Mother's day.
I think that it should be very fun.

Anyway, I was thinking, girls in major metroplexes, maybe it would would be good to post a major place where & when you would wear your rubberband. What do you think? What if you said that "I'm going to be out wearing my rubberband at major bookstore X located at... or big coffee shop Y located at..." What do you think? It could be fun!

Hi Linnea

Please stick with me on this one here it may get complicated.

I think you and the staff and the new store for this site need to stock a rubber band, for rubber band friday. I was looking on line for custom rubber-bands and they sell for around $0.09 each when bought in bulk. They can be any color you want. Have what ever you want printed on them or acronym, take your pick. Then. Not only could we all wear these bands on friday and in my case everyday along with my Pink breast cancer band and Lance Armstrong yellow cancer band. But I digress. Pick a color, Lavender is my choice. The store stocks them. We buy them and wear them, and then we are all in the secret society. Voile!

Hey! Crazy news: tomorrow's Friday! It's also "rubber band day" for those who want to play the game in hopes of spotting one of our sisters. There's no pressure; it's just for fun. Whether or not you wear a rubber band, you still may keep your eyes open for someone else who is wearing one.
What wrist? It doesn't matter--I'm wearing mine on my left wrist.
What kind of rubber band? It doesn't matter--tomorrow I'm wearing a fairly large light brown one (I broke my pink one--lol).
What do you do? That's up to you, but remember to be discreet and sensitive. The other person may be wearing the rubber band but may not want to be acknowledged to everyone in shouting distance. AND REMEMBER THAT SOME PEOPLE MAY WEAR A RUBBER BAND ON THEIR WRISTS FOR OTHER REASONS.
Have fun with it, just knowing that some of your sisters may see your rubber band and simply smile to themselves.
Have a great day!
