I went to the doctor recently with a GI track problem and he ended up putting me in the hospital overnight, something I had not anticipated. I was wearing male underwear so it was no problem getting into a hospital gown.

The next morning the nurse came in to check on me and said she had to check for swelling in my legs and feet, something that often happens to people who are kept in bed. The nures pulled down my long black sox revealing my dark pink painted toes. The nurse said nothing and didn't look suprised at all. I guess she has seen this before.

Yes they have see painted toes before. The nurse probably had painted toes. :)

It is not a big deal. I wear open-toe shoes in male mode and my bright red toenails are exposed for everyone to see. There are a lot of MMA fighters, athletes, and race car drivers that paint their toes. I get a lot of positive comments/compliments from women.

I have had my toenails painted for so many years I can't remember when I started! And I do wear open toe sandals in warmer weather. All my doctors have seen my painted toes, but only my endrochronologist asks me what color they are before I even remove my shoes!! Usually some shade of bright red!! Maybe sparkling, or like right now with silver tips!

I was in the hospital for nine days in 2001 and my red toes were on display the whole time. Almost all the staff I had contact with ignored them, but one nurse always got the giggles when she looked at them, and another actually took quite an interest -- we had several longish conversations about nail polish, makeup, and "dressing up" issues in general. Certainly, nothing negative about the experience at all, and it did not detract in any way from the quality of care I received, which is the only really important thing.

I've kept mine painted for well over a year now and once had my doctor check my feet without a comment. I have now come out to my family because we have pool parties all the time and I was tired of having to remove the polish. Everyone is cool with it and my wife now totally accepts my painted toes. It's a big relief.

I had an appointment with my endo, for thyroid cancer, a couple of weeks ago. He surprised me by asking me to take my shoes off so he could check my feet.

Hey doc, my thyroid was in my throat!??? :D

He's also a specialist for diabetics, but I'm not seeing him for that, my regular doctor takes care of that.

Anyway, my toes were painted with OPI's Tutti Frutti Tonga. He didn't seem to even notice.
