I Entered a Modeling Contest Today

Catherine's, a woman's plus size clothing store (part of the Charming Shoppes family of stores), is having a search for a new model called Real Woman Model Search. I looked over the application and didn't see any reference to it be gender restricted so I entered. Entry consisted of filling out the application, submitting 3-5 color photographs, and writing an essay. The grand prize includes a 2 year contract with Dorothy Combs Models, Inc., a trip to New York for a professional photo shoot and a $1000 Catherine's Wardrobe Gift Card. Four first place winners will have their photo featured on their website (www.catherines.com) and also receive a $500 gift card. Wish me luck!

A couple of you asked when I would know... The deadline for entry was today (11/30). I would hope to hear something around the first of the year.

To all of you, thank-you for your well wishes. It's not so much about winning (although that would be way cool :daydreaming:). It's more about being taken seriously and being allowed to compete. There are many, many BBW and I know I have a steep hill to climb. But I am not the least bit ashamed to put my mug in with the rest and give it my best effort.

On the essay, I started by writing, "I am a real woman by choice, not chance..." That's how I feel. Even with the adversity we face, the obstacles put in our path, and the turmoil we bare from within at times, for me the choice has been clear for so long now, and I would be cheating and demeaning myself AND those I love by being anything less. Yes, the modeling thing would be great and fun and exciting. But being accepted in a very mainstream, very public setting and being able to put a positive image of the trans-gender community out there would be worth far more than any prize!
