Boo hoooo or Baaa Hummbug whichever. Rejected by Macy's... not sure why but at least I tried.
I thought about maybe working there part time (like 4 hours a week) would be my ultimate bucket list check off.
Really would have honed my femme voice.
I sure don't need the money and time is tight but my current job is something like 50 hours a week.
Oh well maybe some other time.

I didn't read that letter as a rejection. It seemed more like an aknowledgement of receipt to your application.
"If we determine there is a suitable match between your qualifications and the position for which you applied, we will contact you."
Its great that you are confident enough to apply for a job in your fem persona. Good luck!

Hi Vicky,
I do not think that letter isa rejection to your application, but more like a form letter probably sent out to all who have sent in their applications. They must be swamped with applications with this lousy economy. I met a TS girl that was working at the Macy's store in downtown San Francisco. She was working there to see if she could get the experience of working in the real world interacting everyday with the public. She liked it for that experience, not so much for the money. Good luck and you never know, they may contact you.

I can read the letter to mean 2 things, and neither is necessarily bad...
One being, a nice way to say thanks, but no thanks for now, so I see that as keeping their options open without flat-out rejecting you...it's a very good policy to never close doors..being an employer or an employee...
And the 2nd possibility is, they really are reviewing all the applicants for the position, and may still offer you that dept. or possibly in another dept or position.. but being theres so many people out of work, they can be more picky about who they hire, and Macy's for one is usually looking at candidates that have previous retail associate experience 1st, so unless you fit that description, chances are slim ..but always still possible, so don't give up if thats what you really want..
But on the other hand, if your already working 50 hrs now, and then get another 20 hrs, you may be stretching yourself way too thin, and if your not living 24/7, you will find getting ready for work at Macy's another job on top of it..unless you can pull yourself together in less than an hour..
I always say though, be careful what you ask for, because you may just get it...:D
Good luck
:hugs:

Vicky: They have your application, that is all. If you still want to work there call them up and ask if they have gone over the apps yet. A company is more apt to hire the person who is persistant. Never give up.

IMHO any company which cannot be bothered to personally inform EACH AND EVERY applicant of the outcome of their application is NOT professional, and hence NOT worth working for.

Well, if you specified you were willing to work only about 4 hrs a week you probably won't get hired. Hardly worth their time.....

Hi Vicky,
That would have been great if you landed the temp. position at Macy's. Did you try Nordstrom's? Both stores at Somerset have awesome shoe departments. I make a bee line to them when I'm out shopping at Somerset.

That was NOT a rejection letter. The fact is that the economy is even affecting seasonal part time work like Macy's. Only 3 out of every 100 applicants applying for seasonal retail jobs are being hired this year.

see Tamarav's post in another thread, look it up under statistics. She IS WORKING at Macy's over 40 hours a week in the Fragrnace and cosmetic departments. Went through 2 interviews and got the enthusiatic O.K. From HR even knowing she was a CD. Must of presented convincingly.
I'd write her a PM.

Vicky, it would help your self-esteem enormously if you learned to view a notification such as this one, not as a letter of rejection, but as a letter of regret.
It is true that Macy's will have received many more applications than they have positions available.
It is true that they cannot appoint everyone who applies.
It is possible that they truly do regret not being able to offer you a job.
It may very well be true that they do not fully appreciate your skill set and what value it would add to their company.
But at the end of the day, someone decided that you would be one of those who unfortunately would not be employed. There is nothing you can do about it!
Move on, and don't allow the notification to affect you. It simply does not matter.
Oh, and by the way, Macy's has gone up in my estimation, having notified you personally (see my earlier post).

Well, that missing line completely changes the whole letter then..
Oh, You gave it a shot..

Tamara has been to school for cosmetology and hairdressing, And has professional certifications in the trade, along with lots of working experience in her craft, so she earned her stripes 1st, and is why she was hired on...It wasn't because shes a CD'er, she was hired because of her working background & experience..
As I said before, employers in this economy can afford to be a lot more picky about who they want working for them, & the same goes for all businesses today...

Any company's HR is buried alive in applications.
If you do not get hired, do ot take it personally in the very least.
