An amusing little story:
I was stopped Friday on the sidewalk in downtown DC by a young woman canvassing for the Human Rights Campaign. She asked me if I had a moment to talk about Gay and Lesbian rights. With a smile, I told her she should include transgender as well, and she replied that she tends to "change up" her greeting to keep the task interesting.
"Well," I said, "you are not the only one here wearing panties." We had a pleasant conversation, and I gave her a $20 donation, which made me a member of the HRC. Then, as she finished writing the receipt, she said, "and by the way, I am wearing boxers."
We laughed, I said I guess I was the only one, and we went on our ways, hopefully with her a bit more sensitized to the T in GLBT.
