Coming to work this morning I was listening to Shania Twain singing "I feel like a woman" I love that song I do so much relate to those feelings. Its my feminine soul's song. I was wondering does anyone here have their own special song?

I guess the one that floats in my head most days is the 70s hit, "I will survive". I forgot the name of the singer but the words give a measure of courage to press on. It might have been geared towards GGs but we also have a lot of rough patches to work through or around; things that can change our our outlook on life.

Walk on the wild side - Lou Reed/The Velvet Underground

Holly came from Miami, F.L.A.
Hitch-hiked her way across the USA
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, Hey babe
Take a walk on the wild side
She said, Hey honey
Take a walk on the wild side

Refering to transvestite actress Holly Woodlawn who stared in movies and was on Will and Grace.

And for the holidays - "Walking around in womens underwear". Lol

Hmm, well, my first REAL exposure to GLBT and seeing TG people, when I was 20, was at a gay club. I had not realised my TG side completely. Still in the almost homophobic stage.

I saw some drag queens (they were fah-bulous :heehee: ), a couple CD's, probably a TS or two. Couldn't believe myself that I was checking out a CD in a miniskirt with hot legs I saw dancing with some guy.

However, when I was getting ready that night, all studly and hot looking, I was listening to this song called "Night of the unborn" by Mercyful Fate.
So every since then, that song makes me think of how it really got started.

If you look up the song, it will seem very strange. The album cover looks like the devil coming out of a fire. The lyrics are evil, but since this was the song I heard when it really started, well, this is it,

Mine has to be Stand Up by Susan Aglukark.

Part of the lyrics are:

Stand Up for the innocence that makes you who you are
Stand Up for the dignity that got you here so far
Stand Up for the higher dream that you can realise

Susan is an Juno Award winning Inuit singer born in Churchill Manitoba. Her music has carried me through so many sad times. I am fortunate to know about her as her music is virtually unknown to people living in the states .. thank you CBC radio and TV!

If you watch one video today, I urge you to see this one!

"I got to be me"

Whether I'm right or whether I'm wrong
Whether I find a place in this world or never belong
I gotta be me, I've gotta be me
What else can I be but what I am

I want to live, not merely survive
And I won't give up this dream
Of life that keeps me alive
I gotta be me, I gotta be me
The dream that I see makes me what I am

That far-away prize, a world of success
Is waiting for me if I heed the call
I won't settle down, won't settle for less
As long as there's a chance that I can have it all

I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I've gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
I've gotta be me

I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I just gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
I gotta be me

Got those pretty little straps around your ankle,

Got those shiny little chains around your heart.

You've got to have your independence,

But you don't know just where to start.

There is no other song I relate to more than "Second Born" by Third Eye Blind. My all time favorite song and I'm still upset it never made it onto one of their albums...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTRh9Ohykds

Lyrics

Time is wasted on me
But Mom it will be all right
You've lost your faith in me
But Mom it will be all right
And the family will hold even though we're all sad
And the family will hold even though things turned out bad

I will write a new song and I will sing it tonight
No one sings along, but mom it will be all right
And the family will hold even though we've lost the means
And the family will hold in the graceless, sad, routine

Cause I've always known that I was second born
But I hold my own like I am first born son

Temperatures drop inside but mom it will be all right
It's time to swallow your pride but mom it will be all right
and the family will hold and we'll pretend we're not hexed
and the family will hold even though we don't know what comes next

I've always known that I was Second Born
Well I hold my own like I am a first born son
We'll leave it alone, but I am second born
I know what I am and I am the first born son
First born son

I found me a girl and she's had a troubled life
I will make a home, I'll make a troubled girl my wife
and the family will hold and maybe we will have a son
and the family will hold and we'll say we've just begun
just begun

I've always known that I was a second born
But I hold my own like I am a first born son
We leave it alone but I am second born
I know what I am and I am a first born son
First born son

Anything by the Go Gos. When the other guys on the football team were psyching themselves up listening to Van Halen or ACDC I was listening to the GoGos on my headphones dreaming of being Belinda Carlisle.

Madonna Vogue always makes me strike a femme pose.

The song I relate to the most is Hardly a Hero by Levi Kries. It is a theme for anyone wrestling with coming out or the decission to transistion. I really relate to it because I hid behind the bravado of being an athlete or a soldier for most of my life.

"Just an ordinary man
Thrown into a life I didn't plan
Suddenly my world has changed
I'm unprepared to make my way
My resolve is growing weak
So unsure of who I'm supposed to be
The one who takes the noble path
Or the one who wants what he can never have

And I'm hardly the hero
This is the only thing I know to do
To make it through
But I need you to believe
That beneath this bravado
I'd still give anything to have a chance
To get you back
And I'm hardly a hero for that

Exuberant and terrified
Every time I look into your eyes
But I can't entertain the thought
Cuz we both know I'm not the man you thought I was

And I'm hardly the hero
This is the only thing I know to do
To make it through
But I need you to believe
That beneath this bravado
I'd still give anything to have a chance
To get you back
And I'm hardly a hero for that

The ones I love will always be
The ones who pay the price
And so I set aside my dreams
To do the thing that's right
And keep it all inside

And I'm hardly the hero
This is the only thing I know to do
To make it through
But I need you to believe
That beneath this bravado
I'd still give anything to have a chance
To love again
And I'm hardly the hero for that
Yeah I'm hardly a hero"

Ok, if I should for some reason suddenly pass expectantly, you can play this song in my honor, this song sums up my life, and one of my personal favorites by hayley.
I think she sings it the best..and looks beautiful too..
I cry & get & chills everytime I hear it..

I Dreamed a Dream - Hayley Westenra

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucX5DolkfEc

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting.
There was a time when love
was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting.
There was a time ...then it all went wrong...

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hopes were high and life worth living,
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.

Then I was young and unafraid,
When dreams were made and used and wasted.
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine untasted.

But the tigers come at night,
With their voices soft as thunder,
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dreams to shame

He slept a summer by my side.
He filled my days with endless wonder,
He took my childhood in his stride,
But he was gone when autumn came.

And still I dream he'll come to me
And we will live the years together!
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather.

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream
I dreamed.

Les Miserables also sings it well too.....:hugs:

Yep, that is a fun song that I probably relate to in that way more than any other song I can think of. Very upbeat song that projects the idea of appreciating all the positive sides of being a woman, or as close as we can get to being a woman.

I love sooooo many songs, but there are several which I absolutely love to sing when I am dressed....:heehee:

I say a little prayer by Aretha Franklin

Also, Drag King by Green Day (I love those lyrics!) and also The Happening by the Supremes.

I also love some Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Metallica (I can be a hard rock type of girl), the Who, and of course, Red Hot Chili Peppers!!!

i hope nobody has chosen it yet but for me its LOLA-dont know who its by or from.
many years ago when i was young and juicy i went barhopping on halloween.one bar had a band playing and when they saw me their next song was lola.
there were a few young couples sitting at the bar and i ended up sitting on the guys lap while the girls were taking pictures.
that was a time when i managed to portray the perfect blend-sexy looking female with just enough male peeking thru in the background.

Well I have not seen this one yet though it is rather obvious. This song has hit me ever since I came out. Katy Perry U R SO GAY

i hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf
While jacking off listening to Mozart
You bitch and moan about LA
Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway
You don’t eat meat
And drive electrical cars
You’re so indie rock it’s almost an art
You need SPF 45 just to stay alive
(CHORUS)
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like boys
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like…

You’re so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal
You’re so skinny you should really Super Size the deal
Secretly you’re so amused
That nobody understands you
I’m so mean cause I cannot get you outta your head
I’m so angry cause you’d rather MySpace instead
I can’t believe I fell in love with someone that wears more makeup than…
(CHORUS)
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like boys
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like…
(BRIDGE)
You walk around like you’re oh so debonair
You pull em' down and there’s really nothing there
I wish you would just be real with me
(CHORUS)
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like boys
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
Oh no no no no no no-------
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like

David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel" from the "Diamond Dogs" album was my first:

You got your mother in a whirl
She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl
Hey babe, your hair's alright
Hey Babe, let's go out tonight

(And the chorus)

Rebel rebel, you've torn your dress
Rebel rebel, your face is a mess
Rebel rebel, how could they know
Hot tramp, I love you so

The time period that album came out was in my early teens. I think seeing Bowie's look (and to a lesser extent Alice Cooper) back then was a big influence on me crossdressing.

Later, towards the 1980s, The Kinks came out with their "Misfits" album, which included the song, "Out of the Wardrobe":

Has anybody here seen a chick called dick
He looks real burly but he's really hip
He's six feet tall and his arms are all brown and hairy

Well, he married betty lou back in '65 when you had to be butch to survive
But lately he's been looking at his wife with mixed emotions
You see, he's not a common place closet queen
He shouldn't be hidden, he should be seen
'cos when he puts on that dress
He looks like a princess

The day he came out of the wardrobe
Betty lou got quite a surprise
She didn't know whether she should get angry or not bat an eye
She really couldn't call up her mother
Mama would positively die
Should she go or stay or should she try to get a trial separation

You see, he's not a faggot as you might suppose
He just feels restricted in conventional clothes
'cos when he puts on that dress, he feels like a princess

He's not a dandy, he's only living out a fantasy
He's not a pansy, he's only being what he wants to be
Now his life is rearranged and he's grateful for the change
He's out of the wardrobe and now he's got no regrets

Betty lou didn't know what to do at first
But she's learning how to cope at last
She's got the best of both worlds
And she's really in a state of elation
She says it helps their relationship
She says a change is as good as a rest
And their friends finally coming 'round to their way of thinking
She wears the trousers and smokes the pipe
And he washes up
She helps him wipe
'cos when he puts on that dress
He looks like a princess

He's out of the wardrobe and he's feeling alright
He's out of the wardrobe and he's feeling satisfied
Now it's farewell to the past
The secret's out at last
He's out of the wardrobe and now he's got no regrets

Though not out of the wardrobe myself, that song really hit home and it's my secret theme song. :o Though I don't want a wife that wears trousers and smokes a pipe. I may dress like a girl, but I'm also attracted to the more girly GGs.

I also like their "Lola," Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side," And "Sweet Transvestite" from Rocky Horror Picture Show, but Out of the Wardrobe is my favorite, followed by Rebel Rebel.

I forgot to mention above, Monty Python's "Lumberjack Song." I find when it comes up on my MP3 player when I'm doing a health walk, I end up singing aloud with it. I have this urge at work to someday stop what I'm doing and just blurt out, "I never wanted this. I didn't want to be a meatcutter.* I wanted to be, A LUMBERJACK! Leaping from tree to tree as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia..." And continue on from there with the whole speech and song. :D

*Real job title changed to give me at least some anonynomity.

Northern Arizona University's football team are the Lumberjacks. I've always thought the band should play Python's song at games.

I was wondering does anyone here have their own special song?

Any song by Cocteau Twins. Elizabeth Fraser’s “lyrics” are often just garlands of words strung together according to their collective sound, so they cannot be interpreted with any certainty. I like that – nothing getting in-between the female voice and it’s overall soothing effect…:battingeyelashes:

I do listen to many other types of music from time to time including the California sound (Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, etc.), jazz, and folk music the music of that era formed me into the person I am today. All I can say is drug testing was a heck of a lot more fun back when I was in college! :o

As for a favorite song there many depending on my mood but I would have to say "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. Many reasons, some I am too much a lady to publish here, but let us just say every time I hear that song I get goosebumps. :)

Party's over it's time to change
Shoes away I neatly arrange
Next the hairdo
On the block
Put away my lovely frock
T.v.-t.v.

Underwear all tidied away
Thirty eight bust just for a day
Heels so high
My furs so fine
All a woman's things, they are mine
T.v. - t.v.

Oh, I'm a joyous glad t.v.
Why don't you come t.v. with me?
I know a girl who loves to dress me
Up like this and then caress me
To remind me of the way
I used to go both night and day
In femininity there's pride
We'll marry soon
I'll be the bride

Chi chi pamela or barbara
What a good girl you really are
Poetry is awful, so is your prose
What's your gender?
No one knows
T.v. - t.v.

All great songs, I love The Kinks and Take a Walk on the Wild Side too...when I'm getting dressed for a special evening, this song often comes to me:

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

I feel charming,
Oh, so charming
It's alarming how charming I feel!
And so pretty
That I hardly can believe I'm real.

See the pretty girl in that mirror there:
Who can that attractive girl be?
Such a pretty face,
Such a pretty dress,
Such a pretty smile,
Such a pretty me!

Mine would have to be, Curse of Curves By: Cute is what we aim for (my ftm cder friend dedicated this song to me after I told him about me being a cder.:o

I've got the gift of one liners
And you've got the curse of curves
And with this gift I compose words
And the question that comes forward
Are you perspiring from the irony
Or sweating to these lyrics
And this just in
You're a dead fit
But my wit won't allow it
The inside lingo had me at hello
And we go where the money goes
The inside lingo had me at hello
And we go where the money goes

I want someone provocative and talkative
But it's so hard when you're shallow as a shower
And from what I've heard with skin you'll win

Her bone structure screams
"Touch her! Touch her!"
And she's got the curse of curves
So with the combination of my gift with one liners
And my way
My way with words
It seems I'm too hip to keep tight lipped
And you're on the gossip team
You're making something out of nothing
And jealousy's the cousin, the cousin of greed
The inside lingo had me at hello
And we go where the money goes
The inside lingo had me at hello
And we go where the money goes

I want someone provocative and talkative
But it's so hard when you're shallow as a shower
And from what I've heard with skin you'll win

Her bone structure screams (I want someone)
"Touch her! Touch her!"
And she's got the curse, the curse of: (I want someone)
From what I've heard with skin you'll win

We All have teeth that can bite underneath
To where the reality grows
Yeah, that's where mine go
that's where mine go
We all have teeth that can bite underneath
To where the reality grows
Yeah that's where mine go
Where the reality grows:
From what I've heard with skin you'll win
And from what I've heard with skin you'll win

I want someone provocative and talkative
But it's so hard when you're shallow as a shower
And from what I've heard with skin you'll win

Her bone structure screams (I want someone)
"Touch her! Touch her!"
And she's got the curse, the curse of: (I want someone)
From what I've heard with skin you'll win

Roy Orbison's song, "She's a Mystery Girl" really illustrates for me the early days when I struggled to accept my female side:

Darkness falls and she will take me by the hand
Take me to some twilight land
Where all but love is grey
Where I can't find my way
Without her as my guide

Night falls I'm cast beneath her spell
Daylight comes our heaven turned to hell
Am I left to burn and burn eternally
She's a mystery to me
She's a mystery girl
She's a mystery girl

In the night of love words tangled in her hair
Words soon to disappear
A love so sharp it cut
Like a switchblade to my heart
Words tearing me apart
She tears again my bleeding heart
I want to run she's pulling me apart
Fallen angel cry then I just melt away
She's a mystery to me
She's a mystery girl

Let's see, so much good music. For starters, let's go with:

Head over Heels - Tears for Fears - "Something happens and Im head over heels. I never find out till Im head over heels"

Get Back -Beatles Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman, but she was another man. All the girls around her say she has it coming, but she gets it while she can"

Terrapin Station - The Dead - "And a girl is standing there. Eyes alight with flowing hair, all that fancy paints as fair" She takes her fan and throws it.

Rebel Rebel - David Bowie - You've got your mother in a whirl. She's not sure if you're a boy or a girl.

You had a boyfriend - DI4 - "Well somebody told me, you had a boyfriend, who looks like a girlfriend, I had in February of last year"

And I could keep adding.

This song surprised me. I have my "girl" songs, but Disney's Mulan was on the other day. Do you know the song "Reflection" from it? (Christina A has a beautiful cover of it, too.) But I've never listened to it in a femme way before. (I shouldn't be surprised - that movie is all about girl power - which I love!).

Next time you see Mulan, look and listen for this song:

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

Two songs have forever been a part of my femme soundtrack, from as far back as I can remember and are always playing somewhere in my head whenever I jump from him to her. Both seem to be written for out heart's desire... Can't believe they haven't yet been mentioned!

1. How Lovely To Be A Woman, from Bye-Bye Birdy and sung by an amazingly young (though not as young as she was supposed to be) Ann Margaret.

2. I Enjoy Being a Girl, from Rodgers and Hammerstein's great musical Flower Drum Song and sung by a breathtakingly gorgeous Nancy Kwan.

From the album "Twisted Christmas"... "Walkin' 'round in womans underwear" Sometimes my SO will hum or sing that line when I am dressed-up around the house, we will both start singing it and get a good laugh!
