I was watching a program on the history channel tonight called "How the Earth was Formed." This particular episode covered the geology of Yellowstone National Park. Programs like this, will typically have professional scientists talking about a specific topic in the program relevant to the episode. As I was watching, a geologist by the name of Dr. Barbara Nash was discussing lava flows related to Yellowstone's eruptive history (I know, I'm getting off track here), and as I looked at her and heard her talk, I was certain she was transgendered and had gone thru the SRS procedure. So I decided to find out for sure and looked her up and found her listed on this website:
http://ai.eecs.umich.edu/people/conway/TSsuccesses/TSgallery3.html
I thought this was so cool that I had to share this with the rest of you. I guess my point here is that for those of you who have gone through or are planning to go through SRS, you'll find a very diverse sisterhood in the professional world living happily (tho I'm sure it was not an easy journey for them) providing excellent role models for the community. :)

 you mean all TS's don't just fade into the woodwork after the transition?

Thanks for the great post Miranda. I saw that show. Amazing how the world is formed isn't it?

Yes...an informative and well made program on geology. One of my favorites.

There are many of us, perhaps quite a few more than some of you might think.

It just goes to show that we Trans folks are just ordinary people being ourselves. And just because we don't advertise ourselves doesn't mean we don't exist.. Good post. Kimberly :battingeyelashes:

VP of accounting with a company that has offices in 5 major cities and still growing. Would gladly trade it to be be a simple accountant, CPA, Notary with my own company, and a non descript,non-activist, life with the man I love. Even if that means.......... fading into the woodwork.:heehee:

Gosh Miranda, you mean she didn't have a sign hanging around her neck, or disclose the fact that she was TS, before she began her speech? Amazing!

That would be a wonderful thing for us to know about. We all struggle with our identities in a world that is changing. I always thought James Earl Jones and Della Reese were the same person because you never saw them together. Hey, just a little humor.

Hi there, I am the first TS in the history of the stagehands union in SF. I applied for another job post transition (pre op) , interviewed for it, and got the second job. I'm way to infamous ( given the choice I prefer it to famous, which means everyone just waits to see you fall on your face, at least this way they know something fun is going to happen)... to ever fade into the woodwork. I'm just not that kind of girl. Especially now. I have a pic of me in my albums above the convention floor here in SF, not the best one, but it's really me... being me. Carol.

It's way to early for me to say I will be successful at my new professional career because it hasn't started yet, theres still another 1-1/2 years before I'm done with school before I can even start..
But what is cool is that I'm going to college, and doing it as a woman..and I love it..:)

:hugs:

No...no sign. Please understand this Kelly. I am a relative newbie to this, having explored my feminine side only during this past year. So for me to see someone who has gone thru this important change in their life is still an amazing thing for me to experience. And I say this with utmost respect. Also, she's in the same profession as I am, which brings it a little closer to home. :)

Wow, a very nice gig for someone so young.

Sorry, can't resist asking:

Did you transition when there?

Or did you get the job post transition?

Do people there know about the pre-Kelly era?

Please ignore if I'm being too nosy ...

I started out Pre-transition, with someone I knew that was just beginning. He got really, big really fast and took me along for the ride. He's just 37 and a multi-multi millionaire. No body in the entire company over the age 35 when he started. Two years ago he sold 49% of the company to a Japanese concern with the proviso that he would run the business with the people that he already had in place, and at his discretion. They went for it. His wife ( and good friend of mine) is VP and a year younger than I am. Everything he touches seems to turn to gold. We were a pretty small group of college grads in the beginning, all friends and all knew about Kelly.

One could say you were just lucky, but the real courage was to be able to come out, imo.

I, too was selected to ride along with two brilliant businessmen in my two main jobs. Nothing wrong with being in the right place at the right time with the right talents!

I suppose one could say that I was just lucky, I'd like to think that I earned the position and have proven my worth to him and the company. But that's just me.:heehee:

I know of at least two SRS surgeons who have themselves transitioned, one being Marci Bowers, M.D. I have also heard of an endocrinologist who transitioned and is practicing in Dallas. I wonder if these doctors practice in their speciality because they identify with their patients or if we have just heard of them because they are in the SRS business? ....Stephanie

The other is Dr. Christine McGinn, http://www.drchristinemcginn.com/drmcginn/

And there may be others too..
