I did a search and couldn't find any other info on this. (Maybe I didn't look hard enough?)

What recommendation can I get on going to a health club and wearing women's workout wear? If I am changing there, which locker room should I use? I figure if I am taking a shower I'll have to use the men's showers, but what if I am just changing? Will I be safe if I wear ladies wear & change in the men's locker room? Anyone have any first hand experience in this area?

Could use the help as I am planning on joining Bally very soon. I get a pretty good rate through work & no extra joining fee, I think. Need to get more exercise & get out of the house. I want to do aerobics & dance & tone my muscles.

Until you get comfortable with everything and learn "the lay of the land" and figure out who is and who isn't accepting, I'd say simply go as a guy.
Personally, after 4 yr of going to the same place, I've kinda set a tone for me.
Because I live only 1/2 mile from the gym I arrived dressed in gym gear and leave the same way. Don't bother with the shower. (take it at home)
Even though I usually wear ladies spandex work out pants, (mostly in black) and a floppy sweatshirt with white Sketchers ladies sneakers, and a sport bra along with some tight bike style shorts ( for a proper tuck) .. I haven't had any comments yet. During the winter I go into the locker room to hang up my jacket (from Woman Within) and my pink ball cap, and go out to the exercise floor.
While passing through the locker room I make sure to avoid eye contact, not because I'm worried, just don't want any muscle bound jock to get any ideas of being macho to impress his buddies.

Over all, I'd say don't over do anything at first.

Umm prior to SRS I did not go to a gym. Now where I lived in Tennessee there were no legal protections for TG people. Ummm personally I think that the locker rooms are the one of those really really touchey things and like the previous post said to go into a woman's locker room you have to be well assimilated.

I doubt I have EVER met someone that would identify as a Crossdresser (and many TS girls as well) that would be able to go into a woman's locker room without catching hell.

My job is working with trans people and on occasion I get questions like yours. I am not a big advice fan but I will tell them what it is I myself did durring transition prior to SRS. One I did not date and two I did not go to the gym. Aside from that I did everything else you could imagine any other girl to do.

I wear women specific hockey equipment in the locker room all the time.... That and being totally smooth sets me apart from most of the uber-hairy guys.. But no one has ever said a thing.... As long as I keep putting the puck in the net...

You can find womens sports wear that borders on unisex and try that... Showing up in a hot pink sweatsuit and sports bra could set of pervert alarms all over the building! Lol. But if you ease into it.. No one may notice the gradual change. In my humble opinion.

Probably best to call the club and ask them. I'm always amazed at how well I'm accepted when I call a business.

I wear women's workout clothes at our gym but I go in boy mode and so use the guy's locker room, which I'm guessing is not what you meant. My workout clothes are either black women's shorts, black cropped leggings, or black fitted fitness pants and a brightly colored women's sports tee topped off with a khaki baseball cap. Not too "in your face girly" but definately not what any of the guys in the gym wear either.

I would also check with the club to see what if any policies they have regarding trans people.
And I too would wear something gender neutral to get used to the place before you try anything too daring.

I echo what the other's have said. This is a touchy area. All it takes is for one person to object and not even the offended person. If a guy reads you going into the Ladies locker room, and see that as a potential threat to his wife, partner, daughter or girlfriend, count on trouble. Best to have the staff on your side.
Having said that, when I lived in London, I had a guy who collected the towels and several times he tried to tell me I was in the wrong locket room... the Ladies was the next door. I had long hair. I liked that guy!

I am sorry but here is my take if you have a penis you do not belong in a womens locker room where women will be getting naked and taking a shower NO MATTER what you call yourself or believe yourself to be.

To me I would think that you are setting yourself up for legal problems for when you are percieved to cross that line. for me crossing that line is at the womens locker room door.
Phisically you are a man and most if not all women would take offense to this.

Use the family locker rooms these have seperate showers rooms and you can change in their.

I also would take offense if a man such as myself dressed in womens clothing was changing in a womens locker room. actually it would probably piss me off enough to call the police immediately.

I am sorry if some people take offense to this but even if this is a transexual that has been taking hormones and has breasts but still have the plumbing of a man (even if you consider yourself a woman) OTHERS do not and you need to think about them as well---- Use the family locker room where it may be expected to see both sexes.

Thanks for all the responses ladies!!
I was kind of thinking along the lines of what you all have said. I was kind of wonked out when I typed the thread so I rambled a bit. I don't really plan on going femme right away anyway though. Just sort of halfway for now. Tight but not too girly.
Keri, I like your idea of the family locker room. I'll have to ask about that.

as another way to get a very good work out (no gym needed)
go out and buy a good roady bike. cranking on those pedals for fiftey miles a day holding at least 15 mph once or thrice a week. use hills if you got them.
