What is 'cute'?

I know that many females use the tem 'cute' to describe certain things - especially types of female clothing, outfits, or 'looks'. The more I think about it the more I want to look 'cute' or wear something 'cute'.

In my mind the term 'cute', though, is a bit like what someone once said about pornography - its difficult to describe but I know it when I see it. Now Im not talking about the way babies/kids are 'cute' or puppies are 'cute'.

A very good example of something I think is cute is the picture that BrittneySmith posted here:

Go to post #4 the second picture down on the right of her. That skirt with the pink flower on it is just so cute!!! (Thank you Brittney - you are so cute!!!)

So how do you define 'cute'? What things, items of clothes, outfits, looks, do you think are 'cute'. Id love to hear from all including the real women hear too as they tend to 'know' what cute is.

No seriously, in the grand scheme of the different types of women Maneater, hot, sexy.. ect I fall under cute. I hope that doesn't sound conceited. :eek:

I suppose in a way for me cute is "anything with a certain air of innocence or playfulness."

I do think there is a fine line mind you. Now I feel that certain pairs of boots are cute, but add too much heel and then they fall into a different category all together.

It's fairly hard to describe, even though I eat and breath cute stuff and make and sell it oddly enough. :heehee: Although the stuff I make may fall under "puppy cute"

This is like war and peace. There is a fine line between what is cute and what is not. If you see a young woman with a short pink skirt and white enbroidered top she will most likely be cute. Put those same clothes on an 80 yr old and the word cute will never be uttered. You have to decide for yourself in your own opinion wether or not something is cute or downright beautiful. To me cute usually is something or someone that is pretty but I don't want to commit to beautiful even though they may be.

For me cute falls somewhere in between omg butt ugly and hot sexy... Lol.

hot, on target, smolderingly sexy look that really get to you personally...however the appearance is tasteful, tailored and subdued on the outside.

For humans or objects, "cute" is a step above "alright", "average", or "so-so".

Of course objects, humans, and animals have different adjectives for other levels of good looks or charisma, "Cute" is anything that is a step above above average.

Funny thing though, if you say something "isn't cute" that usually means it is aggrivating. A dog might be cute, but when it pees on the carpet, that action "isn't cute" (aggrivating)

Calling something or someone cute means it or they triggers nurturing, cuddly, huggy feelings in the beholder.

Obviously, it's hard to come up with an objective definition, since it's based on an emotion the object or being engenders in the observer.

To me, "cute" is a subcategory of "sexy." That is, if I see a woman I think is sexy, there's usually 2 kinds of sexy to me: sultry-sexy and cute-sexy. If you see a woman who's sexy but it's not because she looks all "come hither" and stuff...then she probably falls into the "cute" category. :)

Cute IMHO also has the age and the warm and cuddly side to its meaning. You don't call your grandmother cute, but she may do or have something cute. The young children, girls and some women are cute, their outfit is cute, etc.

I think there are many definitions of "cute". For me, one of those definitions imply "uniqueness". For clothing, that might mean a bow here, a filigree there, the shaping or flow of an outfit to flatter. When I'm shopping, if an item immediately attracts my eye, there is high potential that something about it is "cute".

My ex hated being called cute. She was, but she hated it. She wanted to be hot or sexy, but she just had this cute and playful look to her most of the time. I actually prefer cute though over sexy. That is a personal opinion though.

I agree with stitch's definition as sort of innocent and playful.

Last night my brother and his wife ,my wife and me went to dinner. Emme didn't go, it was just me. I slipped into Emme mode without knowing when I saw my sister in laws sweater. Just like a girl I said how much I liked her sweater and where did she get it. Her answer was I gave it to her for Christmas. I said if I had bought that sweater I would have kept it. You should have seen my brothers eyes. I went on like nothing happened. He knows Emme, but is in denial.
