Ladies, I have big hands and all the fake nails that I have found at the local stores are way to small. Never find one to fit my thumbs. Where can I find fake nails made to fit my big fingers? And I have heard of nail tabs (no glue) but have not seen it around here either. My wife says she use to get them all the time but can not find them either. And these would work better for us as I can not leave my nails on very long and the glues is a pain in the ass if you have to get the nails off in a hurry. Does anyone know where I can find these? I hope this post is not a repeat as I searched the forum real quick buy only skimmed them. :o

Thanks for the help, April

April,

I have heard good things about Revlon Flex-to-Fit nails. Apparently they work well for large hands. I believe Sherlyn has mentioned using these in the past. They are the glue-on type though. They are available at Walgreens and other drugstores. Hope this helps!

Revlon Flex-to-Fit Nails at Walgreens (http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100336&navAction=jump&navCount=0&skuid=sku1354387&id=prod1354397)

these fit really great and come in larger sizes (little pricey) but really last:

although those walgreens nails look to be french manicured (which the above site won't carrry), and I love that style.

Silly me, I didn't know they came in different sizes!
I bought some in a style called "femme" and of course they seem to be made for little girls.
I have never seen a woman with wide thumbnails like mine either.
The press-on ones are narrow and curly and if you stretch them out enough to fit they feel like they're going to pull off your own nails!

Having spoken to quite a few drag queens about the use of false nails , none of them use them as they exagerate the length of the male hand quite prominently making it appear way out of proportion and consequently they just paint over what they have themselves

Steph, I have heard almost universally that longer nails lengthen the fingers, thus making them look thinner and longer. And those drag queens must be the exception, as all the drag queens I have ever seen always had really over the top nails....

I have had such crappy luck with the temporary nails popping off, not to mention trying to find some to fit my phat phingers.

For my birthday a few years back my wife gave me a gift cert for a set of nails at the salon. I just wear them 24/7. If I go somewhere that I need to be in stealth mode, I take the polish off and have my nail tech just buff them!

Pro's & Con's

Pro They look fab! when they're buffed, they don't look too different from natural nails. Don't have to worry about futzing around with them when getting dressed.

Con They are permanent, so they aren't something you want to do for a Saturday night, then plan on taking off before work on Monday Cost. Here in the Portland area, a full set of acrylic nails (the least expensive) is $25, then you need to get them "filled" every 2-3 weeks, which is another $16

I used the acrylics for about 3 years and just went to "solar" nails about a week ago. The solars look somewhat more natural, and my nail tech says that they won't get as thick as acrylics, but they're a bit more fragile, too.

I don't know if perm nails would fit in with your lifestyle, but if they would, I certainly recommend them!

April,

The problem finding nails to fit your thumbs isn't unique. SOMETIMES you can find a proper fit at a beauty supply store. If this doesn't solve the problem then you can MAKE your own thumb nails. Rather than explain this in a long post here go to my website and from the main menu in the site click on "Helpful Hints". This will take you to a page describing how to make your own.

Dana the drag queens i met had all grown their own nails to a length which gave a balanced look to the hand, and still looked fabulously way over the top, there's no doubt the world takes on a whole new feel to it when wearing long nails, even a simple thing like going to the ladies powder room can be quite an ordeal

Deina :Power: :eyes:Deina, just to clear up a point. First, acrylics are fairly easy to remove, takes some acetone and about 30 minutes. I have gotten acrylics several times just for the weekend, and taken them off just before work. I have a thread (with pix) in the Beauty Club for anyone who wants to see the proper removal method for acrylic nails.

Oh, and by the way, Solar Nails ARE acrylic nails. They are more commonly known as "pink and whites" or "permanent French". Solar nails are a product made by Creative Nails, and are just their name for pink and white acrylic. They can be soaked off with acetone in about 30 minutes too.

One warning I would like to stress about getting acrylic nails: if at all possible, stay out of discount nail salons - many still use MMA acrylic, a banned substance that is bad for you, your nails, and are almost impossible to remove. I have covered this also in the Beauty Club.

Acrylics are the way to go if you want nails at least for a few days, just tell your tech that is all you are wearing them for and they can put them on without roughing up your natural nail.

For me there is no way I could use permanent nails. I would have things broke all to hell. My life requires very short finger nails when I am in guy mode. I have seen several ideas for reuse of fake nails and even glue scrapers to get the old glue off so you can use them over more. I will try these. And I am gonna get a few differnet types of the nails that have been listed in this thread and give them a try. You ladies have been a great help. Thank you all.

I just grow my own, then nothing to mess around with except buffing :p
