I heard this in a movie, really struck home as a good "trueism" for a lot of life and TG life in particular:

"You can't change your true nature, even though it can change you"

What do you think ?

I like that very much.

Reminds me of the old dead poets society line...
This above all, to thine own self be true (were they quoting shakespear here?)

Also quite fond of the Slipknot lyrics in my sig.
You dont always know where you stand.....

You're right, Charlene. The quotation comes from Shakespeare. I also think that your point is valid: there are certainly aspects of our nature that shape us, even though our nurturing and aculturation can have significant effects too. Underlying it all is our essential nature.

Polonius:
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell, my blessing season this in thee!

Laertes:
Most humbly do I take my leave, my lord.

HAMLET, Act 1, scene 3, ll. 78–82
