Hi all,

well after much soul searching i finally asked to be referred to a psychiatrist by my GP,and after about 3 weeks i received a letter to attend and be evaluated very quick as the GP stated a possible 3 month+ wait.

So i went to the psychiatrist and all the worry i had before the meeting was in vain, the guy was pretty cool he was a little nervous which surprised me.

We spoke for around 50 mins and at the end he stated he would forward a letter to my GP to make a referral to Charing cross Gender clinic.

I am relay happy and scared as i haven't a clue what to expect there and how long a wait i will have to see them,
i have read some bad things about this clinic in the past but like most things some have good experiences and some bad .

I did not think i would get this far so fingers crossed.:)

Just a note to let you know you're not alone. I'm seeing a therapist while waiting to see a gender specialist. I've had one session with the next one next week. It feels great to talk doesn't it? My therapist is female and I felt comfortable straight away. I can't wait for my next appointment as I feel it's a giant step forward and I too never thought I'd go this far.

Not heard a great deal about the clinic you mentioned. I contacted GIRES and they gave me advice and told me of local support groups.

Good luck xx:hugs:

Hi Katie

Welcome to the road to a new life. I am only one step ahead of you. Just had approval from PCT for NHS funding and have chosen Leeds, Seacroft Hospital. Just like you I am unshure of what is to follow, but will take it one step at a time.

Enjoy the journey :hugs:

Hi Katie,

Congratulations on getting on to that long ladder!

My doctor made the mistake of writing direct to The Charingcross Gender clinic, and after waiting for nearly 2 months, we finally got a reply that they don't take direct referalls from Doctors, but had to go through a Secondary Clinic first at St Mary's Roehamton. He has now referred me to them, and I hope that I won't have to wait too long for an appointment with them.

Once you have taken that decision, it is difficult to be patient. I will use the time for laser hair removal treatment etc.

Take care,

Maryanne

Hiya Nicola,

big steps to take indeed,i think going through this is going to be very tough, but is there a choice?my answer would be no i know in my heart this is the right direction to go.

Nicola i wish you luck with your therapist, you are right its good to let go and talk,i seem to have been just explaining the hows whats and whys to everyone at the moment which is a little annoying as i am still exploring myself so in the process i may seem a little distant on some issues.

Thanks for your reply i will look up GIRES, sometimes i feel like i am the only one going through this,it can be a lonely place to be when your just starting out. *bye* :hugs:

Hello Rianna,

my heart goes out to people who are in a position of limbo because i am still there at the moment and i am trying to break free which will be hard for people to except and i am expecting a bit of hassle from certain quarters, but keeping a balance so everyone else is happy has weighed heavy on my heart for some 30 years, and for some reason my mind has decided to hell with it,i still care about people and there life's
but only people who have this inner drive truly understand the pain, torture, guilt, shame, etc, etc which also has love, understanding, compassion, insight etc,its a minefield out there but one that can be navigated with help, at your own pace is key.
Rianna i hope you find your way at some point,i know certain obstacles can be in the way and thats dam hard to come to terms with, sometimes life does give you a break when you least expect it. *bYe* :hugs:

Hi Katie, thank you for those kind words. Even though you are ahead of me on the path, if you ever feel the need to vent to someone who knows where you're coming from, please feel free to PM me.

Comgrats Katie, i recieved notice of my funding approval earlier this month and I am now waiting for my first appointment at Charing Cross. I think the current waiting list between referral and first appointment is mime months, so I still have four months to wait.

Cool avatar!!!:notworthy:

I'm really happy for you...try to remember that you could be about the only thing your psychiatrist knows about tg folks, and you may need to stand up for yourself one day...i had that issue, and i didnt fight back and it cost me alot.

Take care of yourself, now is an important time for you!!

All thebest

Hello Kaitlyn,i am glad you like the avatar, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and well this one screamed at me.

I like your name by the way,as for the psychiatrist and GPs in my area they seem to have never had to deal with this issue which has made me feel even more isolated,to be fair though they have been very good and i have had to fight my corner rather then be brushed off as some kind of sexual deviant or crazy loon and that is a scary place to be.

Thanks again and have a good weekend :hugs:
