They have different sites for learning. Melanie Ann Phillips has tapes you can get for about $25. <heartcorps.com/journeys>

I've been curious about this too. Its like I don't even know where to start, and I would like to have at least some sort of non masculine voice when I go out my first time.

Those tapes look nice, but a cheaper alternative would be nice. For some reason I remember seeing someone post some Youtube videos or something.

Well, here's a video from YouTube that might be a good starting point.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciWIzpW_X20&feature=player_embedded

I didn't watch the full thing yet so can't say for myself, only watched the first minute or so and skipped around a bit. Some of the "related videos" might help too. I'll have a closer look at them all later tonight. Maybe this will help.

OK, watched a few and found a channel on YouTube that has some of Melanie's videos. Hopefully this will help... They have videos on walking like a woman too.

This is one that I found on youtube that is really helpful, or at least to me it was and is funny too! http://www.youtube.com/user/candiFLA

I had Melanie's videos, CandiFLA uses pretty much the same technique. I've been practicing for about six months. It's getting there! So, keep practicing.

This is the first in a series by this young lady. I found it very informative.

I also bought Kathie Perez's system and a monochromatic tuner and I have found it most helpful. Kathie and Lynn will also work with you on the phone. There is a cost. However, if you can find that elusive femme voice I think it will be worth it. http://www.voicefeminization.com/

I think the biggest thing we have to remember is no matter what you won't open your mouth and hear a femme voice voice the first time. It takes lots of practice. I have been at it hard for almost three months and although I think I sound a whole lot better I have still not found that voice that always the gets the "yes Mam".

It takes lots of practice, in addition to exposure to successful T-girls on youtube. It's a real plus if you're musical and can really hear the music in typical female conversations.

It took me years (maybe I'm a slow learner) to get a pretty good in-person voice. One thing that helped was taking over the phone lessons from a T-girl who had a great voice. I probably had five 30-minute lessons, and that really helped.

The hardest part was the ingraned reluctance to free up my inflections -- all the boy training in monotone speaking in a low register had to be overthrown.

It really helps to use your voice in the real world. Eventually I lost my self-consciousness in the crucible of reality.

Now it feels weird not to fully inflect my voice when en-femme, just like it's unthinkable to clomp around with a man-gait.

However, in addition to speaking, women are much more animated in facial expressions and gestures when speaking. It's a fully integrated activity, unlike the typical rigid male visage when speaking.

Yeah I got mine trained, it does still need some fine tuning.

I didn't really care for Melanie's particular techniqes, but there are many ways to get to the femme voice point.
One stupid thing about the Melanie CD is that the sound quality sucks, sounds like it was made with one of those old cheap video cameras from the 1980's

YOu just have to try different things over and over and find what seems to work best, and build on that.

You know funny thing about some folks who develop a femme voice is they act like "Oh I forget how to even use a male voice..."
Yeah right whatever. I can switch back and forth on the fly.

I just looked at that voicefeminization progmra. EIGHT SEVEN BUCKS? Hahah yeah right.
If someone wants to send me money I can help them on the phone. My rich, refined humor included free in every consultation.

I think it was, actually... If I remember correctly from the info I dug up, Melanie DID record those videos in the 80s.

She said to practice talking in a falsetto voice. I did that for maybe 10 minutes. It was making my throat scratchy!

Then, she said to try speaking next, in the range BETWEEN the falsetto and my regular range! It sounded pretty good rite away!:)

Altho, speaking in that range would require LOTS of practice before I'd be able to carry on a conversation!

I am not sure how to go about it I suppose I am just lucky there (did I say lucky as a kid I thought it was bad) anyway I get confused for a woman on the phone and at drive through speakers all the time. I do think that like every thing else it just takes alot of practice.

Sounds like more online time. As when time is right no go going out all dressed up and people thinking you a GG then open your voice and blow it all.

Hi All!

The voice issue is a biggie. It takes a lot (and I really mean a LOT!) of time, dedication and practice. It's been a little over 6 months since I started and now I feel I'm making some progress.

Female and male voices are split apart by little more than an octave, on average. That means there is a little overlap between the two, which makes it quite simple for us to move up to the female register. If it were that simple, anyone would sport their favorite Minnie Mouse impersonation and think they sound feminine.

Sorry, folks, that's not how it works. The catch is to learn to use our voiceboxes the same way GGs use theirs. And also, once we train the right muscles, we need to pay attention to speech elements such as stress, enunciation, rhythm, word choice. Otherwise, we'll always come out sounding like men with squeaky voices.

There are a couple of materials from Andrea James that helped me a lot. I bought her video and found it adequate for my needs. She has samples of it on Youtube.

Try:

http://www.genderlife.com
http://www.tsroadmap.com (under "Voice")

Candi is also great, she has an amazing voice and voicebox control. Her videos are also on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/user/candifla

Once you take this up, understand you are in for the long run. Don't let yourself get discouraged in the beginning, because most of you will sound awful and very masculine. It is like learning to play a musical instrument: it's not done in a week. Approach developing your voice the same way.

Exactly! The femme production goes to the trash can if you can't confidently produce a female voice to match your appearance! That's why this is such an important aspect of CD life, especially to the ones who have a desire to go out en femme.

Not sounding like a female is the biggest reason I haven't gone out in public a lot more. I'd love to do shopping for clothes and groceries en femme, but am too scared to for when I would check out. I'll have to look into this...

I found the YouTube videos listed in this thread very helpful. It took me almost no time at all to subdue the bass side of my voice. Unfortunately, that's just the beginning, it seems.

So the bass is gone. How do you use the rest of your voice for inflections, and how do woman do it naturally. Luckily there are women all around us and I've been listening very carefully to what they do with their voices. There is also a lot about this topic online.

Then there is the use of language itself. Which words and phrases tend to be used more by woman and how do they construct those sentences? Interesting stuff!

From my vantage point it's sound plus vocabulary plus usage. Once I got over the fact that I thought I sounded silly (recording the voice took care of that) the rest of it is slowly locking into place. It just takes time to build up a new way of speaking and thinking!

Oh, and I so wish I could develop that girly giggle!

I really like Candifla especially for her ability to switch back and forth seamlessly and incredible sense of humor. She updates regularly. Her most recent and awesome vid asked if she would date her male self (watch the vid to find out:). Really, my male persona would TOTALLY date her- who wouldn't want to date a woman who's totally upfront about everything, likes to work on cars and has a great sense of humor.

Yes at first it will mess with your throat but it takes prectice.

Even with the best methods, there isn't like this magic trick that will convert it immediately.
Once you have found something that works, keep working on it, fine tune, and it will get to where you can use it at will and for however long you need to.

Really, once you are on to something that works, you then know you CAN do it and it is so encouraging and you just work from there.

The way I did it was by recording myself reading something and playing it back to see what it sounded like. It took almost a year to get it down perfect. I use the voice anytime I speak now.

Great! Now work on relaxing it, letting the tone go down, without letting it "break" into the lower male range.
