Thinking of how some members here have thoughts about going out in public but have doubts about passing, I wanted to share my day with you.

On Monday, I decided that on Wednesday (today) I would go to my eye doctor and dentist appointments as Karen rather than my male side. When I called the dentist and talked to the receptionist, she said fine. When calling the eye doctor it did not bother them either. So at 8:45 I arrived at the dentist office and must have spent 20 minutes chatting with the woman who was going to clean my teeth, she was not surprised at all. A few technicians came in throughout my appointment, looked in and smiled. At the eye doctors it was pretty much business as usual, they did my eye check and prescribed new eyeglasses. Both appointments were back to back and then remembered I needed to send a package overseas do I went to the post office too, stood in line with about eight people in front of me and now and then I got a man checking me out, other than that I was treated as a female.

It has been a fun day in yoga pants, ankle boots and layered tops. Bottom line is, sometimes we worry too much and it does not have to be that way.

Enjoy life!!!

A good illustration of what I have been trying to explain my entire life here on this forum.

Most people don't give a sweet flying patootie WHAT you wear. They have their own problems to think about.

You will NEVER discover this truth until you experience it. But most of you who are in the closet are there only because of your own guilt and fear over your behavior, not because someone else put you there.

I totally agree, we are our own worst enemy. You can couch your reasons in however way you want - risk your job, marriage, friends, kids, humiliation, conflict...you fill in the blank...but the reality is that most people do not care. We totally project our unfounded fears on the world and make it seem like the sky will fall down if it ever gets out that you dress and yet the reality is that rarely happens and when it does you just have to find a way to deal with it. Of course as stated in this post you do not realize the truth of this until you actually get out there on your own and try these things. Until that point you look at those who do get out there as somehow different, but we are not.

Good for you, Karen, and in Oregon to boot. Whereabouts in the state? Just wondering, as I am in Oregon as well.

Wow, what an inspiring story. I'll definitely think back on this story the next time I'm sitting in my car psyching myself out about going into the store. As much as I know it on a conscious level, unconsciously I can't make myself believe that people aren't all staring and laughing. This story helps me believe that even more.
