Hi all -- could anyone give any suggestions for CD-friendly venues, clubs, and stores in New Orleans? I'll be there this long weekend and would like to touch in with the CD community there. Thanks so much!

Diane

Hi Diane!

I've written about New Orleans many times, including a report (http://www.crossdressers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124359) on my last trip that might be useful. Pretty much anyplace in the city is going to be T-friendly, especially in the French Quarter. Shoppingwise, I like the Quarter and Magazine Street. The best mall is Lakeside out in Metairie, which depending on your confidence level is pretty good.

Again, the majority of clubs and places to eat will be T-friendly. If you're looking for a particular type of place, let me know and I'll try to point you in the right direction. Pick up a copy of Gambit Weekly (http://bestofneworleans.com/gyrobase/index) (the free paper in New Orleans) for events and things going on. Also, the gay tabloid Ambus (http://www.ambushmag.com/)h has a bar guide and its issues online as well.

And no, I don't work for the convention bureau but I ought to for as many times as I recommend things in the city...

Hi Diane, I've never actually been to New Orleans and I'm certainly not qualified to talk about CD'ing in New Orleans or things in New Orleans and Louisiana in general. And Divamissz has done a great job here of describing LGBT/TG/TS/CD stuff to see and do in New Orleans. There is an incredible wigs, cosmetics and accessories shop in the French Quarter at 934 Royal Street called fifi-mahony. They are TG/TS/CD freindly to the max. I think they also do hair styling, nails and really wild CD makovers. I've done business with them twice through the internet. They have a website for mail order but I think the url got changed around a little bit a couple of months ago and I don't have the new one. Google fifi-mahony and a lot of neat stuff to sift through. Fifi's is kind of hard to describe. Their store hours are noon-6:00Mon.thru Sun.

I've been there three times and would not hesitate to go to the Quarter en femme. Honestly, I can't think of many places better for a gurl out on the town. Just don't wander too far down any side streets -- according to my local guide, there are some 'hoods near the FQ that get rough in a hurry.

Oh god, Fifi's is a girl's best friend! When I was living in New Orleans, I'd get all my wigs there, and quite a bit of my makeup. Marci, the owner, is wonderful and they'll help you find the right wig for you. And they also have a nice selection of costume jewelry and stuff.
