Rather wear a lei than a noose, so I need a little advice. How well are CD's accepted in Maui?
I have to ( oh, twist my arm - ouch :heehee:) be in Honalulu for a family wedding in July. The wife and I are going to go a week early so we can jump over to Maui to scuba, sightsee etc. While researching, I find a distinct absence of information on crossdressing over there. For starters - most of my scuba gear is female - so I need to know if I should leave it home and just rent.
Anybody play in girl mode over on the islands? Plus any other info is helpful. Thx.

I Absolutely LOVE Hawaii....
Spent 2 weeks on the Big Island & Maui years ago & can't wait to go back again & thinking of staying there a while after Operation Thailand, if I have any money left over.....lol

They will have plenty of Scuba gear to rent, but like most rental stuff, it may not be as nice as your own..I would bring all your gear, except for the weights & tanks, then rent those there..

I wasn't there to CD, just my Honeymoon..But I can tell you it's mostly tourist (Japanese when I went) and don't see a problem there for you...the people are fantastic!!! and extremely friendly....You'll love it....Enjoy..

Aloha & Hang loose..:battingeyelashes:

I lived in Hawaii for 3 1/2 years. Two of my daughters live there and all six of my grandchildren live there.

I met one time with someone from a CD support group but I never did get involved.

I doubt you'll have any problems, Stephanie.

Candis Cayne is from Maui.

Thanks Donna for the leads. I'll check them out. Don't necessarily need the GLBT hotels, but the rest of the info is helpful.

(I'll just tell airport security my breast forms are auxiliary floatation devices!:D)

The little town of Lahaina near Kaanapali is great.Enjoy yourselves as there will be no problems, for sure. So,is your wetsuit a colorful women's model?? If so,I am really jealous!! The turtles will be so much friendlier to you! Great trip, wish it were us. Enjoy.:D

I did not know that there is actually "male and female" versions of scuba gear. What is the difference?

Thanks for taking the time to answer this question.

Maui is my favorite of the main islands.... In addition to Lahaina and Ka'anapali, take the drive to Hana through the rain forest and stay over night, (if you have the time) it's long drive. There is a black sand beach along the way.In Hana you will have a big selection of machetes to choose from at the Hasagawa general store (LOL). The Hana Maui is a nice resort(expensive) be aware that there are few accomidations available in Hana so planning and reservations must be made in advance. Great trad. music at the club there.

If you don't have too much time you can drive(37 miles @ 10, 000+ feet) up to the Haleakala crater, the caldera is, if I recall, 27 miles across, an amazing sight. If you like bicycles you can rent one from Cruiser Bob's.

They drive you up to the summit and you coast downhill for 37 miles.

Or you might consider the Blue Hawaii helicopter company for a fantastic ride over the entire island, and you get a video of the trip.

Bring your camera, the light is fantastic everywhere and there were rainbows nearly everyday.

Takes about 2 weeks to cover everything, but it can be done in a week if you plan carefully.

Funny that you mentioned what you did, because I stayed at the Maui Westin Resort on Kaanapali Beach, and next door was Whalers Villiage...which was an awesome place to shop or choose your favorite cuisine from the many restaurants in there..plus all the jewelry & art shops were out of this world..

Lahaina was also a great stop, it's a beautiful old whaling town with tons of shops & sites...and if anyone goes there, be sure to have dinner at the Chart House Resturant...you won't be disappointed..
I also drove up the mountain to Haleakala crater, which was an awesome site to see..

But my heart really belongs to the Big island...it's Huge and not as crowded like Honolulu, I stayed at the Kona Surf Resort, and up the coast is the black sand beach , then chartered a private sport fishing boat (Northern Lights) for a day & caught my 1st Blue Marlin there the same day the Iron Man Triathlon Race was going on land, and also while I was there, charted a plane to fly me around the island & over an active volcano at the time, plus did many many other things, so I will never forget that place for the rest of my life....
Just thinking about it makes me want to go back right now...lol

Thanks for the Lahaina tip Rogina. I'll be sure to look into it.

And yes girls, there is a BIG difference between wetsuits nowadays! Here's a pic of my mens as well as womens suit. (commercial pics, mine are packed away). They are cut to a female figure, and act just like a soft girdle to hold the flab in :) . I have to admit it makes me look good.

Too kind Jenifer. Let's just hope anyone looking at me is doing it through a facemask and 100' of water.

Machetes Deedee? That will go over well at the airport. At least it will take the attention off my femme wear.

I'll be sure to try for the crater Karen. I hear the sunrises there are the best. Very romantic. :hugs:

Aloha Stephanie,
I live on the "Big Island" the Island of Hawaii outside of Hilo. I lived on Maui for awhile at the beginning of 1980 before moving to the Big Island. Then went back fairly often to visit my wifes family there. I never really had a chance to find other CD's there. Even here, I have only been in contact with 3 other CD's and they have since moved to different places. No doubt there are others here but...my wife knows but is not accepting so contact is rather difficult. I am not a diver, I guess I would check the difference between the cost of renting versus cost to bring your own equipment.
