well Maxine is the obvious thought, but it's rather old. Anything with your middle or last name give you any inspiration? Only other thing to do is go thru a list of names and go eeny meeny minny mo mj

You don't have to have a name that is similar to your own. Try this - Think back to all the women you have known in your life. You might find one that you were fond of and you loved calling her name. There is a great place to start. Then imagine you are the girl you dream of and call your self by that name - close your eyes when you do this. Imagine your friends introducing you with your new name to someone and see how it feels. We did not get to choose our names the first time around- this is fun!!!

Remember to pick a name that fits your age.....some names today won't fit you if your in your 40's, 50's or +

The obvious name is Maxine, but if thats not to your liking maybe an Idea is to think of a name of someone you like in the public eye, showbiz or modelling etc that appeals to you.(thats what i did)

Look forward to seeing what you pick x

Maxine is perfect. Any name that begins with "M" is good as, later on, if you get deeper into this, you will be able to replace your credit card with one that has only your initials and thereby remove an (oft imagined) barrier to shopping.

As I moved through transition, I used just my initials on most of MY documents just avoid the embarrassment of getting mail sent to my old name.

My real name is Robert, so Roberta would have been logical, but I really don't care for that name at all.

I picked Helen because when I was a little kid I had a crush on Helen Reddy. Hey, it's as good a reason as any I suppose.

Just pick one that you like and think that you can stick with. It'll get confusing if you change it every 6 months.

My name is nothing like my real name. Think about women you've known, things you like to do, etc.

My female names (I have 3) are nothing like my real name either. My female names are Teresa, Bailey, and Amanda. Teresa and Bailey are both girls I've known and had a thing for. If I was a GG, I'd want to be a lot like them.

Amanda, on the other hand, is what my parents would have named me if I'd been born female. With Elise as the middle name, to be exact. Amanda Elise ((Insert last name here)). Assuming you're an adult, it might look kind of suspicious to ask your parents now...unless you have come out to them. In my case, though, I happened to ask when I was about 6 or 7 years old, while complaining about how much I hate my middle name...got curious and asked what I'd have been named if I'd been a girl.

Anyway, so a couple of girls I've had a crush on, and my would-be-female name. That's where my female names come from. :)

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the way I asked might still work for other adults. If you ever get into the situation where you can bitch about your real name, it might not look too unusual to ask what they'd have named you as a girl. Just a thought. :)

Dear Girlygirly;
try several names , try hyphenated names if you like, until you find one that for only reasons you know will suit you. Personally, I shun feminizing my masculine name because if you are Ted and want to be Teddy and one of your new friends slips and calls you Ted after being introduced as Teddy, you might be quite crushed for not making the grade.
I picked a group of names that meant something to me, all borrowed from women that I admired went I met them previousily and who have since moved on from my circle of acquaintences.
As I evolve my feminine side, I have gone thru a couple of names already and have not settled down. When inventing my feminine persona, I feel that a name should be like a dress, try it on and if it really feels good and complements who you are ... buy/try it, for awhile.
Who will I be next?....
All gurls do have the right to change their minds.

I was in the same situation not too long ago. I just thought of names I like/girls I knew. I also wanted something that wasn't close to my real name...

I chose mine by picking a name, i.e. Brittany, because I felt it fit my personality, and Ridge, that was the name of a street I lived on as a kid. You have to pick a name you feel is fun!

what about cloei or brianna, the only reason i chose danielle was cause thats what my mother inlaw calles me when im playing around and dani or danny still sound the same think outside the box maxine to me sounds older

It's supposed to be your childhood pet's name, plus the name of the street where you lived as a kid. ...No, wait,,, that's for your porn star name.

If you like Maxine then use it. Like someone mentioned, it could make using credit cards and ID easier too.

*wonders what's wrong with 'max'*.

..you have a name that goes wellfor both genders, keep it...people will assume its maxine or something, your credit cards and signiture remain the same.....how easy was that!!!!

I can be of little help, unfortunately (I'm using a male name version)... but maybe look up some of the names that were popular in your birth year, and try them out for size...

One thing to try - find out what your name would have been if you were born a girl.

Just when picking a femme name that you will use a lot - just think of personalities and what names imply what, go with something that would fit your age... things like that

Settling on a femme name is not easy, but I would say pick something practical if you want to be taken a bit more serious. Something like Sofonda Cox would be great for a drag queen but a CD or TS, no.

Just really play around with some possibilities. Somehow a name will come that just feels right. I go by Erin, I like the Nicole part but would not feel comfy being called that all the time. Erin just felt right.

One thing - if you pick a name or someone gives you a name and you have any doubts about it, ditch the idea. I used to go by a femme name years ago that would be great for a granny at a tea party.

Mostly, just remember that once you start intro'ing yourself by a certain femme name, it is hard to change cause if you change it, people will be like "...Jenna or Tina or whatever her name is this week..."

My two cents - I don't know if "Maxine" would be a great name, it just has too much of some "exotic" feel. I mean maybe for some Filipina swimsuit model but not most women

The ideal femme name will be practical, age appropriate, personality appropriate, and something that feels as natural as the name people call you in male mode.

Do you have any women in your life that impress you? Compare women with their names and their attitudes. For example, do you feel like a Lisa when dressed or a Vicky? How you feel when you are dressed should be reflected in your name. People change their names all of the time to show off a new personality, or a gender change. Look around here and see how a "name" matches a personality.

Have fun:)

I choose mine because I like the sound of it and because I don't know any girls that go by that name (for me it would have felt like I was stealing some of their identity if I had picked a name of a woman I already know).

Ask your mother what she would have called you had you been a girl and take it whatever it is.
Then your name would be genuine given by someone you love even if you don't particularly like it.
It may also let some secrets out in more ways than one!

My parents used a name book for both my brother and I. They used two different colors of ink for us. They underlined the names of interest, double underlined those that made the finals, and starred their final choices. So, when I chose my femme name; I let my parents choose for me - they didn't do too bad a job the first time around.

Start with one name and if you don't like it....change to another one. Its not like we need to go through the legal system to change it.

Just don't name your son Sue! AKA: Johnny Cash.

Max is short for Maxwell. In the Beatles song "Maxwells silver hamer" there was a girl named Joan. Best thing to do, open a baby name book at the supermarket and pick the third name on whatever page you open.

If you post a picture, we might be able to better match a name to you. (I've been gone awhile, so maybe you did, a link would be nice then) Otherwise, we can't really suggest anything but Maxine.

But without suggesting a particular name, I suggest you go somewhere like 10,000 names . com and just look through female names, write down ones that interest you, sleep on it, then go through the list and cull some out the next day. Continue until you have one you want.

You could go the other way around, Max ends with X, so you just continue. Like Xena (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112230/). But not very chick, but cool. An idea. I like Maxine, great name.

I've never really had a name, and I use different names all the time. My given name is bjørn, or bjorn. My mother used and call me bya. Hence byanca. But I consider to start using Nina more. Ends with N, starts with N. Seems natural. And like it. Maybe Nina Byanca ...

My friends gets confused when I ask them to call me something else on regular intervals.

Actually I think it's rather charming when a crossdresser uses their male name while enfemme. I used to have a very pretty friend named Gary. It suited her.

If I were to ever use a male name I would use the male version of my name - Andy. When I was about ten years old that's what one of the little neighbor kids used to call me... I guess she couldn't remember Anne. Heh.

I found a "just for fun" drag queen name generator on the internet a while back and it said my drag queen name should be either Lois Carmen Denominator, or Christy Creme.

I picked the name of my favorite hair stylist way back when. Her name was Tamara and I loved the flow. Then all I had to do was pick the last name.

Maybe associate your new name with someone you liked or loved, or a favorite actress or author.

It all depends on whether or not you want to break away or adapt...

Max = Maxie... simple as that (Maxy)... great girl name btw! If I met a girl called Max - I wouldn't flinch! I know Sam, Charlie, Mike, Bob... it goes on... they are all girls! We live in a crazy world these days!

Depending on how you go forward.. think about do you want to buy things using your current credit/debit cards but using your fem name? If so...

I am Kaz for lots of reasons... but I also kinda like it!

Most of us don't get to choose our name - so choose yours to suit what you need and then live with it!

My advise...

Kaz

My real name is also used as a female name. But I real don't care for it to much. They do begin with the same letter just in case I get enough courage to go on outings and need to change my cc cards.
