Two very exciting things happened:

(1) I showed a pic of myself to some gals that I am acquainted with -- I told them I was dressed up for a charity fundraiser. I told them I had a friend who worked at a salon who volunteered to do hair and makeup, which is why it looked so polished. Their reaction did concern me a bit -- they didn't laugh, they just kind of sat there silent for a moment, as if they were trying to figure out if it was really me or how I could look so convicing. One gal smiled and said, "You're a good sport for doing that!" I have a hunch -- this may sound somewhat conceited, but do you think they were a little bothered because I looked more attractive than they do? The gal who smiled and commented was much better looking than me.

(2) I took a major step forward today and called a local boutique and asked them flat out (in a very polite and cheerful voice) how they felt about a transgender person coming in to shop. I made sure she (the owner) knew what transgender was (she did), and that I just wanted to be sensitive because some shops might prefer that I just come in normal clothes and shop. She was very sweet and didn't hesitate to say it would be fine. She sounded a little amused. : ) I said I would call the day I come in to give them a little warning. (I don't think she thought this necessary.) I am really excited about going!!!!!!

I also emailed another boutique and they said "Yes its ok!" I can't wait!! These are both wonderful and very feminine little shops. I also called a local (classy) lingerie store that I already knew to be TG friendly and checked in with them. She said, "Is your money green?" : ) I said, "It sure is." I asked if there was a particular time of the week or day that was best. She said, "We're open 9-6 six days a week." Wow!!!

So, my plan is to visit a salon (not too close to where I live), get my hair and makeup done, paint my nails myself and then visit the two boutiques and the lingerie shop. I'm not sure this is going to happen, but I'm working on the plan. First, I need to pick up a spring outfit that I can wear shopping -- I plan on doing that at Cato. I stopped in yesterday to try a few things on.

My one fear has been that people would recognize me in my own local area, but the gals I showed the picture to said they would never known it was me. I suspect I can shop incognito. Anyone have experience with this???

I'm surprised no one has commented on my post. Have I done something wrong? I feel like I'm being boycotted. : (

Perhaps everybody is AFK ?

Either way, I enjoyed reading your post :)

Have fun when you go, perhaps you could post a report on how it went?

These are terrific steps and I am so happy for you. I have found that when I call ahead and check out with the shop owner or manager things go so well in the boutiques. She asked the right question, do you have the green kind of money, then come on down. Have fun, keep us posted.

Glad you are taking steps to make yourself happy :)

You might very well look fantastic, but I'm not sure I would ever attribute any reaction from a GG to them thinking a crossdresser looked better than her.

I've seen this said on the forum a few times. I think there is probably a brief moment of confusion whilst the beholder processes the fact that they are looking at a picture of, or talking to, a crossdresser.

I am sure the thought that you were much more attractive than them never entered their head, but it is hard to judge as you have no pictures of you up in your avvie, profile or album :sigh:

Go out enjoy your shopping experience, have fun and stop wondering whether others think you are more attractive than them, most folks don't give a damn one way or the other on a daily basis

still, their reaction upon seeing the picture worried me. were they thinking "wow, this guy is wierd!" because i told them it was for a charity event/beauty pageant. normally, girls laugh at these kinds of things.

i'm still hoping that the shopping trip will happen. still making plans . . .

thanks for the comments!!

Some women are not the kind to insualt someone when there looking at a pic of a guy and they think he look good or bad. They may think you so cute and looked good. They might have thought it might embearassed you and was being nice. Or they saw through the lie you told then and want to think of a food non comital thing to say. You may never know. I have done something like that when I was in my ealry 20 s shopping. I would tell the SAs I was shopping for my girl friend and were the same size and could I try it on. They saw through that as soon as I said that. Most women will not have a problem with a CDer as long as it's not there man.

Now as for shopping. There's no need to call the shops to see if it's ok. If your dressed as a women they will treat you as such. You might get sired but that's the worst you might get. I have been sired once at furture shop. He corrected himself right away. Just as he said he/she. Like that quick. So I don't think you need to warn any store and just go there and shop. You might get a double take (maybe) when they first see you but after that they will treat you like anyother women in the store. Odds are they have CDs shop there from time time or hell all the time YNK. So go out have fun and pitcures please.

Unless your voice gives you away, I don't think anyone at any shop would be able to tell that you were an everyday good looking woman.............:2c:

you're probably right slim jim-- i take it all back. it was a presumptuous thing to say (that I might look better than them).

sandy -- you are so sweet! i think i'm a 'peripheral passer' -- as long as they don't look right at me, i think i can. i'm working on the voice. i wish there was some way to "test" it out.
