can't help you with your question - I wish my voice was more female as that is my main concern while enfemme in public - do you feel your voice sounds more feminine now ? - I'm not much of a pitch person - Ellen

I thought the general consensus was that HRT had no effect on the voice for MTF people. I do find that I speak differently already when presenting female with out much conscious effort. I had my first appointment with the speech pathologist who confirmed this, but it is still well within the male range. I understand with practice it is possible to lengthen the vocal chords to be able to speak comfortably at a higher pitch. However, pitch is just one part of the voice.

HRT will not effect your voice (MtF), sorry.

Voice will not change with HRT, it takes work and time.

But...
I find my voice change depending on how emotional I am. So if HRT makes one more emotional on average, I expect the voice to become so as well. Just feeling more girly tends to make the voice more girly. So indirectly this should make a positive contribution. Or, like really, no contribution at all?

The voice changes with emotions as a result of tensing the muscles around the vocal cords. A higher pitched voice than normal may be indicative of depression, for instance, and used for diagnostic purposes. HRT has an effect on muscles but there is no evidence that voice box-related muscle groups are affected by HRT.
If you feel like a woman and think like a woman, and live in that gender role fully, you may speak differently anyway. I have found that using my (trained) female voice makes it harder and harder to go back to the old male voice. Also, and this has been my own observation, pitch is not the most relevant thing, but resonance. Specifically cutting chest resonance from the speaking voice. The pitch does not have to go up much.

Frances has offered you a generous explanation. Better take it. The FACT is that hormone therapy will NOT change your voice one whit.

As yet another person who has spent at least some time on the treatment, and has researched for herself, there is no direct effect on voice. If there is any change in your voice, and you are not doing it consciously, it is entirely psychosomatic. Don't get me wrong, that's a good thing ^_^
