So today my voice therapist called and said she needed to cancel todays appointment.

I had the time off work scheduled so I jumped in my car headed to the courthouse and got my name changed. Somewhat spur of the moment. I had planned to do it next week but the universe provides.

My legal name is now Jennifer. Yeah!!

Jennifer,
Congratulations!!

Things are very different there. My name change won't happen until June 21st and I had to publish a legal notice in the newspaper at least 30 days before the hearing date.

Amazing how things can be so different from state to state.

Enjoy being Jennifer legally now!!

Congratulations, Jennifer! :hugs:

When I decided to change my legal name, it was impossible to do it "spur of the moment" as the process took many steps and much time. I am so happy for you that it is apparently much easier to change your name in Washington than it was in my former county in Pennsylvania.

:) And I thought it was easy to do here in Virginia! Congratulations, sometimes you just have to jump on an opportunity when it presents itself.

WOW! That's unbelievable. So what is the process in Washington? Maybe I ought to move out there.

I know! I'll fly out on a Monday, I will use your address as my "temporary" place of residence, get my name changed on Tuesday & catch the Night Owl that night! :D

It is crazy complicated in Canada (Quebec) as well. So much so, that I am waiting for SRS to change my name and get the gender marker changed at the same time.

That's great and quick too! Only one question, didn't they query the two exclamation marks on the end of your new last name? :heehee:

I'm lucky that over here in the UK, the most frequently used way to change your name is by deed poll which doesn't involve the courts at all. If you do it on-line, you can have the deeds within a couple of days, then you just need to sign and have them witnessed.

How easy can it be, it took a month here in Nevada. It took at least 2 hours to just fill out the forms required.

I guess you could say we are very progressive here in Seattle.

Actually I did see a judge.
