Since going full time, I've been having lots of fun firsts. Things that only transgendered (I KNOW we all have somewhat different definitions we use, I use "transgendered" as a blanket term covering any kind of gender variation, from crossdressing to full time transsexual...*whew*) folks can appreciate...

I know many, many gals here are regulars in the (as my girl Kate says ;) ) big bad world, and I thought it'd be fun to see what things were special to everyone the first times you experienced them.

I'll start! :)

-First time being called ma'am

-First time a man went out of his way to hold a door open for me

-First makeup quad thrown away because I used it all, not because it was three years old!

-First worn out pair of shoes from the ground. (Payless shoes seemed more durable, and comfortable, when I only wore them three times a month for a couple of hours at a time)

-First time to keep the same color on my toenails and fingernails until it started to naturally wear off

-First time I bought a greeting card for my Mom in the "Daughter to Mother" section

I keep having them, and imagine that I'm going to have quite a few more...

Now lets hear some of you're firsts, try to think of things that, out of context may seem mundane, but for us it means the world, like first time you mistook your own reflection for "some woman"..:heehee:

Oooohhh yes, gotta luv getting rid of some cruddy menswear!

I have a tiny, and I mean tiny, suitcase in my closet with everything I had left, guy clothes wise, even my shoes, belt and wallet are right on top...hope my Mom never looks in there, it's strangely morbid to me for some reason...

- First makeover
- First time I had my picture taken in public
- First time I met one of my daughters
- First time I could comfortably walk in high heels

First time I was called, "Mommy."

OMG! That is the best! My son is the only one in my life so far who has completely adapted to using female pronouns with me...his birth mother hates it, which I totally get. I tried to tell her that it takes nothing away from her, and that lots of kids have two moms, but she has the right to not like it, and she does deal with it, so I can't complain.

I even had my son make her a Mother's Day card that said "To My #1 Mommy!"

I know it's really silly especially since I'm not "public" but when someone first referred to me in the third person with a female pronoun. I cried out of happiness at that point.

Some of my fav firsts -

First time I learned that my femme voice truely does pass (I acid tested this, if the guy had known, he would NOT have been impressed)

First time on the phone when some customer service rep thought I was my wife.

Every time I get called "ma'am" is as sweet as the first.

First time I went potty all by myself (I think I was 30)
First time I rode a bike without training wheels.

Wait, these are TS related firsts yes?

Firsts really are nice. Enjoy them while you can, don't rush anything.

The only one that ever mattered was wearing white silk panties and bra to my wedding! My wife was wearing matching ones! She bought them for both of us!

There were others, of course, but none that matched that!

What a fun thread! How many of us identify with these??

I'll add two:

1. The first time my wife gave me femme Christmas presents (a big set of eyeshadow colors and a bracelet -- I stil use both!)

2. The first (and the only) time a SG asked, "Can I help you, young lady?" that was in Macy's Housewares dept. ... I'll bet she gets a lot of business from us young ladies....

1st time I took Robin's stuff out of the trunks and hung it all up in my closet like regular clothes! They went back in 10 days later, but it's a start!

1st time to go shopping en femme with my GF (April 2nd, during the same 10 days as above)

1st time my GF gave me femme jewelry (March)

* Buying my first bra, March 1978
* Having a GG spend 4 hours with me helping me shop, June 2003. That was especially nice because I lost all the nervousness I usually feel when shopping for women's clothes.

First time I was accidently outed. Fully dressed and a CHP officer stopped me going 72 in a 55 zone. I lied about my speed and he accepted it. :battingeyelashes: :o :D

First time i got caught with pantyhose and I had not moved out of my parents house. Mum was not happy.

I've done all the things listed by Amanda, except for the card. I haven't done perfume either (not sure I would use it more than once or twice), and my voice doesn't pass, and I haven't been called pretty, but I've done most of the other things that people have listed.

As a transgendered person, my more memorable events tend to involve going out as mixed gender, such as the first couple of times I went out as "a guy in a dress" in broad daylight. I'm still working on those, pushing my own boundaries and comfort levels.
