Nevada finally recognizes us

As of May 18, 2010, the state of Nevada DMV now has a form no. DLD-136, Medical Certificate and Authorization for Gender Change.

An MD just has to sign it and check the boxes that you are living as a female (or male for ftm's) and your driver license or ID will reflect the preferred gender marker. This allows pre- and non- ops to have ID matching their life.

I am one of the very few that got it when I asked for it in 2007, with my name change.

This is the best news I have heard in a long time.

Colorado and California are two other states I know of that will do this. Feel free to add any others.

Virginia will let you change it for 18 months. In theory that is long enough to go through transition and have your surgery. In reality....?

I changed my name and didnt give the M on the id much thought. I guess I myslelf knew I was getting surgery in the not too distant future and so I just didnt care.

It was nice when I did get the F after surgery but in hindsight it was not as big a deal as changing my name!

My therapist told me I could get a Wisconsin drivers license changed with a minimal amount of fuss... I don't remember if it would require a letter from her or what was actually involved as I don't live in Wisconsin... but I do remember it being extremely easy... and that she said I (still regularly passing though increasingly poorly as a guy, not on hormones yet) would be eligible.

We have it here in washington. Have a doctor say you have started treatment to become the other gender and you get to change gender marker.
