Does anyone know about some non-profit organization called Gen ID? I guess that for 25 bucks a month or something you can get insurance through them and it covers 85% of your transition costs (hormones, electrolysis, surgery, etc.) I guess the insurance is through some place called CIGNA or whatever its called...

I am aware Cigna covers some costs of transition. They however they don't cover hormones and you have to follow their guideline 100% or they will screw you. However I am going to try to squeeze Cigna for therapy. :D

I've never heard of Gen ID. But Cigna does associate themselves with other companies as affiliates and gets discounts for their customers. But this relationship I am only just researching as my doctor is part of a program like this (Not Gen ID) and I'm not sure how it works. But they are covering portions of my neck surgery, non-transgender related.

Here is the link for the PDF version of Cigna's policy regarding transgender. It does tell you what Cigna covers.

Cigna (http://www.cigna.com/customer_care/healthcare_professional/coverage_positions/medical/mm_0266_coveragepositioncriteria_gender_reassignme nt_surgery.pdf)

Do you have a link to anything regarding GEN ID so I can look into it?

I don't know ANY insurance company in our Solar System that would insure anyone for $25.00 a month and guarantee to pay out 85% of your medical costs knowing that you are going to actually use the policy for transition costs or any other elective surgery.

If that were the case, 1 Billion people would sign up within an hour and the company would be bankrupt the within the next hour with trillions of dollars worth of claims.

Well I found them. Kind of looks legit, but you never know. Here's the link.

Gender Identity Empowerment Coalition (http://www.genderid.org/transintersex-health-resources.html)

The easiest thing to do is for me to call Cigna and confirm that they are contracted. Which I will do tomorrow because I want to know myself. Cigna hopefully will tell me more since I have them.

I can actually say I am asking for a friend LMAO. They won't believe me. :daydreaming:

Samantha,

Let us know! In that case I would sign up for sure.

But you know the saying, "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is."

I would love to be proved wrong on this one.

Heck I am sure most of us girls would since most of us are paying for everything out-of-pocket.

This doesn't look legit to me.

The spelling errors, the clumsy sentence construction, and the grammatical errors are all red flags that these folks are not legit. Also, the whole "too good to be true" aspect pegs my 8ull5hit detector in the red.

The fact that the "contact us" link provides no physical contact info is not reassuring.

The fact that the link for "the board" (of directors?) leads to a Facebook page is NOT reassuring.

The fact that the "who we are page" does not give any indication as to, you know, who these people are - other than "scientists, professionals, celebrities, activists" and "others" is NOT reassuring.

The fact that the "coalition allies" page lists NOW as an allay and not HRC is a red flag, as is the fact that nothing on the allies page is a link - though it is disguised to appear as if it were.

And then there is this... a quick whois search of the domain genderid.org reveals that it was registered by:

Arianna Davis
3000 Royal Palm Drive
Costa Mesa, CA. 92626

and includes the same phone number as on the "contact us" page.

Lets assume that the Arianna Davis is the same Arianna Davis PhD who signed the sites homepage. Which is sketch... legitimate organizations have IT departments who register their domains for them... the domain is not commonly registered by the organizations founder... Go whois microsoft.com and you won't see the domain was registered by Bill Gates. So far this implies that this is a one person operation... and it is looking like a shadier and shadier one person operation all the time.

Here is the real killer for me. Put "3000 Royal Palm Drive 92626" into google street view, and you find that the address is to a seedy looking apartment building. Not a strip mall, not a business address, not anything that might look half-way legitimate for an organization that purports to have contracts with Cigna and is pursuing them with BCBS... not a place where "scientists, professionals, celebrities, activists" might congregate to discuss strategy or pursue the goal of demanding "that the American Psychiatric Association remove the classification of Gender Identity Dysphoria as a mental disorder, from the Diagnostic statistical Manual" ... no.. it's a seedy apartment building. It is where this guy (who is posing as Arianna Davis "PhD") lives.

All of this leads me to one inescapable conclusion: THIS IS NOT LAGIT.

Were I a betting girl, I would lay odds that this is a honey-pot. This is an attempt by some sick #uck to collect personal information on as many transgender girls as possible, so that later, in 6 months or so, this sack of flesh can publicly humiliate these girls by posting their pictures and personal information online. Any one want to put up a side bet on this guy being some homophobic republican cross-dresser?

I would NOT give these people any personal information.

Yeah I agree, there is something suspicious about the site. I tracked the site to Arianna Davis as well. I am investigating her still as well as the others connected to the site. This site is heavily connected to a Facebook page. I shall see if I can find their non profit status as well.

Even if this site proves false. It is true as of January 1, 2010 Cigna approved to provide coverage for certain transgender procedures listed in the PDF above. I had researched that over two months ago for my own transition. That is legit for anyone that has that particular plan with them. Which I do. Like I said it doesn't pay for hormones or electrolysis. but it does for GRS. As long as you follow the guild lines. I believe it's covers 70% if I remember correctly.

Funny, Anthem (blue cross / blue shield) does NOT cover SRS except in very narrow university plans and was planning to phase it completely out. Thankfully new guidelines are changing slowly the definitions of SRS from cosmetic to medically necessary (trying to find the articles online that describe the new guidelines).

So that alone raises my concern.

Here is Arianna Davis:

So the name at least has a history on the internet of being an activist.

She was a member of Harpies Motorcycle club. You didn't get that one :P She also surfs LOL

This profile shows Arianna Davis PhD Queertoday Profile (http://queertoday.ning.com/profiles/profile/show?id=AriannaDavisMCSEMSDevelopmentalPsychologyP hDNeurosciences)

This profile shows Arianna Davis a writer (http://sites.google.com/site/agdavis1908/) from O magazine.

Is it me or do they look very similar? So far I found only the queertoday picture. I'll keep looking.

Maybe we should form a group. Instead of Charlies Angels, we can be Transgender Angels. Start investigating people :D

Added I fould this picture (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=100000947658693&aid=1419&s=20&hash=23b8ec3659a93f5ff90adad36233adea#!/photo.php?pid=54731&id=100000947658693), she looks very different from the queertoday photo. This is the facebook site I traced from Dr Drews page.

Thank you for all the research to show who these people might just be (frauds). Just the idea that someone has a simple solution to a problem that vexes all that get near it ... well... that is suspecious.

Still, HOPE, hats off to you girl !!

I'm not saying that this is legit. But I do get insurance discounts through another company with my doctor that I don't even pay for. I'm not sure how this whole insurance thing is working with the my doctor, this other company and my insurance company. I just know that they are taking money off the bill. I'm not sure how they are even making money by doing this. I don't even know the name of this other company taking care of my bill.

So I can't say that $25.00 a month is doable or not, if I'm getting something free.

This whole insurance stuff. REALLY complicated these days. But I'll deal with that tomorrow when I find out who's paying my bill and if Gen ID is in contract with Cigna. I never shoot anything down until I fully research it. I also don't believe it until I see it. I keep an open mind. But as of right now, I have my doubts. But I'm still not shooting it down :D

The legitimate role of an insurance company is to pool premiums and cover the costs for those insured. However they are not in it for humanity, they are there to make a profit, and the only way to do that is to [pay out less than they receive in premiums.

Now, if the insureds are only TS candidates, there is a near 100% chance that there will be major pay outs, not just a few minor expenses along the way.

My BS meter is way off the scale and with the in- depth investigation some of you have done, it looks like just another way for an individual to bilk the rest of us.

Can't get an answer out of Cigna. I've been fighting with them all day just on my surgery. Seems the insurance industry is looking to pay nothing even more so these days.

Oh Thor! I am so ready for that! Not happy about the Captain America pick. For me he's the human torch forever.

Off to battle with Cigna again. They found another reason not to pay my medical. And none of this has to do with anything involving transition. Go to love insurance companies.
