Last night, I stated in a motel, a busy one, and decided to dress up, go out on the deck, third floor, a number of times, and was seen by about ten people in all, including young ladies on the deck next door to mine. Later, I watched "Castaway", on tv. Nice mirrors, in my room, allowed to me to strut around, and see Louise, head to toe. It was my gray and black tight sleeveless sheath dress- very sexy! Finally, I decided to carefully check, to see if the hall was empty. It finally was, and Louise stepped outside, in her 4" black patents. Slam goes the door! At that sound, I realized I was in deep doodoo. What can I do?! I just stood looking at the door, for several minutes, while hearing voices down the hall. They left after a few minutes. This resort, was full of parents with kids. What will they do, if they see a great big tall guy in a dress? Good thing i had my gray wig on! Finally, I knew i would have to get the courage up, to go down three floors, to the front desk, which usually has four workers, and ask for a key! I decided to slip off my heels, and leave them at my motel door, and go, in my hose. The moment came, amd i started walking, but, after about 50 feet, a man shows up. I ignored him, pressed the elevator button, and down i went. When that bell went off, and the door opened, my heart must have been going full tilt. I walked the 25 feet to the desk, talked to the ladies who had checked me in, and told them i was locked out. She asked who i was, and i told her my name. I said it was a costume! I said i have been told i look good. No one said a thing, and she handed me the key, I said thanks, in a botched voice, and headed for the elevator again. A number of teen girls were coming down the hall, and were all watching. I pushed the button, waited 5 seconds or so, then stepped in, and thankfully no one else on board. Up it went, and the bell rang third floor, and i strttted out, headed around a corner, and there was another older man. I just passed, trying to walk female, and he must have watched me for 15 seconds, as i walked passed him, 50 feet to me room. Never has a door opening sounded quite so nice! This morning, the desk crew was different, but, they may have heard. Now that its over, that was fun! But not at the time. I had not been seen by the public, in a few years.

I so understand you feeling like doodoo. The same thing happened me in Lake Tahoe man years ago where I had a time share. Stepped out for some stupid reason, 200 pound door slams like no tomorrow. I thought I would go sit in my car and think through it but the car was locked, keys safely in my purse.

Since the snow was about 3 feet thick where it wasn't plowed and I had on a thin LBD with 5 inch heels (coat was safe in my room also) I strolled to the desk, explained what happened. The cute young girl at the desk said absolutely nothing as she led me to my room, went inside and found my purse with ID. She smiled and left, with me inside the warm room.

Sold that time share...

Oh wow this is a worst case scenario situation, but you and the other poster
handled it extremely well.

Well,,, I would have just walked up to the front desk, heels and all, and asked for my spare key, and if they said anyting about "my new look" I'd have just said, "well everybody needs a hoby"
(and have in simualr situations)

The Innkeeper's Code states: "Ignore anything and everything that happens in your establishment." "These are your guests, and as long as they aren't harming others, or destroying property, it's not our business!"

You aren't The First person that they have seen dressed, and you won't be The Last! Yes, it was embarrassing, but it's certainly not The End of The World.

Lesson to be learned? Even if your just stepping outside The Door, always have The Card on your person! As you now know, doors slam shut! And, in a Motel, if it's closed it's locked!

Peace and Love, Joanie

Yes I'm glad it worked out OK for you.

I know how scary it can be as something simular happened to me years ago.
I went to an out ot town motel to do some shopping at a major mall near the motel.
I dressed in my room in my female finery sutible for the winter weather in an upscale, taylored look that includecd a tasteful black pencil skirt and white blouse topped by a faux fur lepard coat.

I had a wonderful time explring the mall and shooping for some new lingerie, etc.
After driving back to the motel, I approached the motel entrance with my room key in hand attached to the motel key fob.
An older gentleman comming out smiled as he held the door open for me....I was in heaven.

I climbed the steps to my second floor room and it quickly turned into hell as I prepared to open my door. My key had fallen out of the fob somewhere.
I was instantly thrown into a state of panic but, manged to stay relatively calm none the less.

I retraced my steps and luckly, ! found the key! What a relief!

...What will they do, if they see a great big tall guy in a dress? Good thing i had my gray wig on!..

Louise, when you have a dress and a wig on, you're a woman!

I'm sure we all have this nightmare, and we hope and pray it doesn't come true. Yet it often does, despite our best efforts. I took a drive late one night last week, and when I reached my house after a pleasant, carefree spin in my new wig and forms, I saw my nextdoor neighbor puttering around at his car--at 2:30 in the morning. And we share a driveway!

So I drove on by and killed some time before going back. I'm pretty sure he made me behind the wheel, though, as he took a good, long, puzzled look--but who knows? At least I was able to rocket out of there.

Frankly, I want to relax about the whole dressing schmeer and let the chips start to fall--but I wasn't ready to explain what I do and what TG is to my neighbor, whom I hardly know, in the middle of the night, in my carport.

Anyway, Louise, your experience is the best argument for dressing fully. After all, no woman would want to be seen bald in a hotel lobby. Congratulations to you for coming through it in one piece, sans humiliation. I'm just sorry you left your shoes upstairs, because your hose probably got ruined!

Yay Yay Yay, fun Louise - and easier than you thought? At least you weren't sleepwalking with no wig on when you were locked out, but that's another story.

They just gave you the key on your word of who you are and without checking identification? I've locked myself out before but never while in a dress. The places I've done it at required a picture ID for another key. If it was in the room, they would escort you back to the room to check the ID.

Forgetting my key is a fear I have now, so I keep it on the cabinet near the door and grab it whenever I walk out. Even that doesn't always work with the electronic keys. At one place I've stayed, I've had several occasions where I stayed there for several days and the card would quit working after a day or so. I had to go to the desk to have the card reactivated so I could get into the room. This is another reason to make me reluctant to step out while dressed up.

When you hear that door shut you think if I just concentrate really hard I know it will open. And yet it never does.

Same thing happened to me in Sydney a few years back. This time it was the cardboard key with the electric strip that was faulty. After staring at the door for a few seconds and realising that thought control wasn't going to open it I took the plunge and got in the elevator, walked across to the front desk, showed them the fauty key and asked for another one which they gave me without a murmur. I just turned around strode confidently across the lobby back to the elevator and up agan. Its surprising how you can pluck up the courage to do something when there is no alternative. Since then its been upwards and onwards. Not a care in the world.

I think that you handled the situation extremely well other than allowing the door to close on you but look on the bright side; you were nudged into going farther than expected, which is a good thing.

I have been too many hotels and motels where even with the magnetic key card could not get into my room which is why when they give you two I take both with me since from my history one always works.

It definitely sucks to be the one to do anything when your forced into it. Me and some friends were hanging out and grabbed some pizza to have it delivered. They told me to go get it, the guy knocked three times before i unlocked it. I must have slammed the door in the poor guy's face. Now though, i can laugh and laugh and laugh about it until the cows come home.

You handled that situation well Louise!

Reminds me of a story; a buddy of mine was out of town for work and after a long night of drinking hit the sack in his motel room. He was totally naked and got up to go to the bathroom and walked out of his room. He woke up when he heard the door slam.

He ended up ripping a piece of wallpaper off of the wall behind the ice machine and sheepishly went to the front desk and asked for another key!

I suppose they've seen it all! I think I'd rather go to the front desk en femme than wrapped in a piece of wallpaper!

EVERY, and I mean every time I have gone to Vegas, my room key misfires at least once during my stay; usually late at night (or early in morning) is when it chooses to humble me. Down to the desk I go, usually worse for the wear after a night of dancing, to beg a new key.

It has become a Vegas tradition ...

Guess that you just got to make that extra step. I have strolled down the hall a few times but always when my SO is along. One of the 1st times I was going to venture out was in Vegas at the Riviera , got all dressed except for the wig, was so excited, thought I would just take a ride up the elevator and back, only to realize after I was on the elevator and going up, I forgot to put my wig on. Things happen, makes us stronger and gives us a little more courage. Good for you girl.

Yes that happened to me. except, i was living in the room, and working at the hotel. aNYWAYS, we had had a black out and i felt kinda brave, so i stepped out of my room wearing a blue demin skirt, blouse bra and panties and some white socks. BUt behind me, my pet, cat, escaped into the hall. I ran after him, only to hear the door slam. Omg! what am i going to do?

Anyways it hit me, there was a spare key in our maintenece room 3 floors down, and it would be unoccupied. So w/ cat in hand, and wearing my skirt, i went down stairs. But unfortunately, the key was gone. So, my next thing, i grABBED A blanket, took off my blose and bra, and wrapped up in the blanket. and then proceeded to the frontdesk to get a spare key.

talk about fear that night! wow, ... i was sooo scared. they at work was going to find my lil secret

I have not locked myself out yet, thank god, but I did have a horrifying hotel experience once. I was out of state on business and went out dressed for the second or third time ever. I just drove around town and went into a kmart. When I returned, I turned the corner and there were 20-30 teenagers in the hall! They were on a church trip and staying in my hotel. As I turned the corner it seemed like they all looked right at me! I just quickly walked through them to my room at shut the door...my heart was beating so fast! Who knows what was going through their minds? I hope they thought I was just another woman staying there!

Is this really considered being "caught" or more of "performing the role" you have chosen? "Caught" to me implies doing something dishonest. I see no evidence in your narrative of you doing anything like that.:)

Thanks for the replies. I agree Denise. It really is not like getting caught committing a crime. Some of you have had much more trying moments!! Actually, not one teen screamed, and i heard no comments. This was in the middle of Montana, too! Actually, I did look like my avatar, only had shades on. I may even have passed! Short term memory loss, can put us in comical, dramatics!

I hope to dress one more time at a motel, before i have to move to my difficult fathers place. No dressing there! I found a long black skirt, and black butto sweater, and two pairs pantihose, and a small denim purse , at the in Boseman Montana Sally's and half price! Next time, i hope to wear a longer dress or skirt. I have only one dress with me. In Butte, there is a classic womens clothes shop downtown. Dresses galore. A cders dream! Trouble is, I chickened out buying anything, as a man was watching the store, while the owner was out. He was a super nice guy, though. I blew it! Well, i have too many gal and guy clothes, anyway! But, if you ever go to Butte, Montana, check that little shop downtown. Vintage womens clothes, and antiques.

Wow, I'm surprised how many of us have been locked out of our hotel rooms!!! I always make a point of asking for two keys when checking into a hotel. I will put one in my male wallet and the other in my purse {I never walk out of my room when dressed even if only going down the hall to the soda machine without my purse}. That way I'm covered unless to magnet won't work...that hasn't happened to me...YET.

As Susan suggests, I also always ask for 2 keys and split them between my wallet and my purse. I have used this method to ensure that I always have a card key with me for the nearly 10 years that I have been going out as Nicole. For a period of time between 6 and 10 years ago I did an unusually large amount of business travel and just about always took Nicole's clothing with me and would spend as much time as possible as her.

On at least 10 occasions those darn card keys failed to work on the door lock and I simply went to the front desk and asked for a replacement. I was either provided with a replacement on the spot, or I was asked for identification prior to being given the replacement. The only bad experience I ever endured was having the desk clerk call the duty manager after I provided my photo ID to him. The manager did tell the desk clerk to provide me with a replacement key, but then told me not to return to his hotel. Rest assured I took his advice and never returned. Oh, BTW, I also provided my company with such a bad review of this hotel that they removed them from the approved hotel list....

great story, Louise! I used to worry anout that happening when travel alone and dress. Now, I just go down to the lobby in full Jill mode shortly after I check-in and get another key made just to break the ice with the people on the desk.

I have to agree with Denise, you were doing nothing dishonest and you handled the potential for embarrassment well, although when something similar happened to me, I did not leave my heels beside the door.

I had the same experience a year ago. On a business trip to Memphis, I stayed over the weekend to go out on the town. On the first night, I discoverd none of the 3 room keys would work to get me in the side door, so I had to go around front and enter through the lobby.

No problem on the first pass by the clerk. I walk to the end of the hall, and none of the keys will open the room. Back to the clerk and the anxiety of discovery. I had stayed and still stay at this hotel very frequently and the staff knows me by sight and name.

When I ask for a new room key, the clerk's eyes just about pop out when he figures out who I am. He smiles, reprograms my keys, and says have a good night.

Nothing has been said since by any of the staff during the remainder of the weekend or on any return visit.

Although I had 3 good room keys when I left earlier in the evening, it turns out that through a series of coincidental events they were all erased when my cell phone ended up being next to them. Had one in my pure, one in the console, and one on the drivers door.

Wow, Kelli, that is frightening! I actually feel like the younger generation is more accepting of all the different types of people now. But a "group" of teenagers can be a different story! Rest assured some of those church boys were probably wearing panties too!

It is a scary thing to happen. Even more scary, but with a have to meet it face on, is when the hotel door happens to be shut for the night and there you are, ringing the bell.
On the other hand when you get far enough to be locked out, you are probably blase about it.

This happened to me too, last month!

I was staying at a motel but had the day free and needed to go shopping that morning - you know, when you just NEED to go shopping! I dressed as Jessica in my room and headed out. Well, after several hours, I came back to the motel, and to my horror my room key didn't work. I tried it at least a dozen times but nothing. It was one of those plastic cards with the code programmed into it.

Here I was fully made up wearing my black turtleneck, a black & white skirt, my white sweater & carrying my purse. All my male clothes were in the room I suddenly couldn't get into. I've been out shopping and even to dinner as Jessica, though never where someone knew me or knew my male name.

Anyway, I finally realized I had no choice but to go to the front desk and get another key. As another poster said, it's amazing how brave one gets when there is no alternative! I walked into the lobby, and nobody was behind the desk. I rang the little bell, really hoping that a woman would answer...and much to my relief I got my wish.

Using my best female voice, I told her my key wasn't working. She looked the room up on the computer, and then looked at me, then looked at the computer. "Is the room in your name?" Yes it is. At that moment she seemed to understand, and reprogrammed the key. As she handed it to me she said "Sorry about that, ma'am!"

So scary as it was it all turned out ok!

I know this was a big deal for you, cuz I went thru it too, long time ago, and I remember the panic, until I learned that it's really, well, no big deal. These days I don't bat an eye at moving around the premises and interacting with the staff -- in fact, I usually check in and out en femme.
