*sigh* I'm always such an inspiration. :battingeyelashes:

I'm never keen on saying what constitutes a gender one way or the other. I'm on the "it's all cultural" team, which therefore makes such priorities fluctuate throughout history. Being a real person, however, is being responsible, considering others, doing what's right, etc. If you additionally say you're a man or a woman because of these things, then go for it. :D

But I will say that real men don't chuck a full can of soda/beer at a 5'4", 110lb transman in a late-night parking lot when their gorilla buddies are around for protection. *cough*

A real man can parallel park.

Uh-oh.

Nicole, all those things are what a real man is when there are women around. Unfortunately the rules change when it is all males around. It becomes a contest to see who can pee higher on the tree and not get splashed.

I agree with what you listed as what a "real" man should be. Billy Joe Bob Maynard thinks you are kinda fem. ;)

Ze you are 5'4"??? Did you grow while in Bahstin?

Find myself the right StP and I win. :D See? All these things can be compromised.

:tongueout

Oi! I've always been 5'4"! And 5'5" on my good days when the nurse has taken a nip!

And Nicole's thread becomes derailed in 3...2...

Sorry about the silliness, Nicole. :) But it seriously does help me when I try to laugh away the crap people do to me.

Please doesn't take it personal girl, but I find your list of things that define a "real man" rather foolish, to some point even offensive.

Why does a guy have to be "real"? So a guy who is 7 feet tall and who suffers from the "little guy" syndrome as you call it, is not a real guy, regardless the fact that he has been overwhelmingly supportive to others his whole life, including taking care of his really sick wife for over 10 years?

And the sergeant who doesn't treat his lady well, but who has sacrificed his live in war to save the life of 8 soldiers is not a real man? So every time a man fails in one area, he's not a real man? Is my wife not a real woman, because she's not perfect at pleasing me always for 100%?

What you're trying to define is the "perfect man", the prince in shining armor but the problem is; there isn't one. I go so far to say that the world would be a better place if we weren't "told" on an almost daily basis what a "real" woman or man is supposed to be.

I would like to see a fake man and woman. Isn't that mannequins? Oh that horrible movie from the 80s. I so wanted to be her but still hated that movie

I guess it all depends on what you consider real.

I guess real men and women have one thing in common, they care about themselves and others and try and treat people right.

I think it's different for everyone. What defines a real man and a real woman, depends on the person. Everyone has there own opinions really. A knight-in-shining-armour would be lovely though! :daydreaming:

A real person is being able to make the right choices, wrong or right, your the one who has to live with yourself. Regardless, a "real" man or a "real" woman depends on the person giving the speech. I believe that when someone describes which one is real or not, is really only them giving you their opinion on their ideal man or woman. so of course it's going to be different for anyone.

And Ze, I'm female and could probably still pee higher then you! :tongueout :heehee:

It is not up to me to judge people – you should not either.

You are the man or the woman you want to be and to hell what anyone thinks. If I like the man or woman that you are, then I will befriend you, if I don't then I will just be an acquaintance.

Now of course I have my opinion:

What is more manly/womanly?
- Someone insults you, do you fight them (insult back) or walk away. It is easy to fight (always easier to hate), but it takes a real man to be able to swallow his pride and walk away. I challenge you to love the next person that does you wrong (can you do it - I wonder).

Love is often the more difficult path and is also not typically considered to be manly, but maybe we have it wrong. It is easier to swear at the person that cut you off; it is easier to punch out the guy who groped your girlfriend, wife whatever; it is easier scream and argue back at someone yelling at you.

But don’t, instead take the high road instead.

Whether you are woman or man, it is harder to take the high road and do the right thing. And in my opinion, taking the high road is what makes you a good man or a woman.

When you no longer have fears, you no longer need to fight.

I too find the OP's list of what constitutes a "real" an to be somewhat offensive. I am a real woman but I started as a real person. Persons are different. What the OP gave was a list of what his "IDEAL" man would be. But there are many men who don't fit that definition who would be upset if you told then they were not REAL men.

in my mind this one is pretty easy and not gender-specific. there is one simple rule to follow: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. doesnt get any easier than that.

I think rather than talking about "Real men" or "Real Women", we are talking about caring people or those who are uncaring. We are also talking about responsible people or those who take no responsibility. Sexuality has little to do with how we treat others, ourselves and the environment.

I choose to be responsible.

A REAL WOMAN like me actually cares about people.

I don't like the terms "Real Man" and "Real Woman" in any serious context myself. All it's ever used for is to berate someone for not satisfactorily displaying a trait that somebody else decided a person of that gender should have.

I think that it ironically just serves to discourage people from being real.
