I see a lot of people talking about going to Walmart as a test for passing.

I recently learned about a site called People of Walmart. It is a awful site, making fun of people who looks different, but mostly making fun of poor people that can afford better clothes.

It was very sad to me to discover that many CDs appear in this site, just to amuse a bunch of lame people.

What do you think? It would be really hurtful to me to find my picture in this site. Specially if not dressed

Yes it exists and sometimes I laugh very hard at some of the ways people dress and go to Walmart. That's why when I go I make sure to be dressed appropriately so I don't end up on their website.

Poverty and those less fortunate is never a laughing matter. People who run sites like that must be spoiled brats without souls or empathy. And no concept of the word "context."

I've thought about that too but there's no way I'd dress as obscene as some of those that get featured. lol

ha ha Michelle! I can totally see your point of view.

I was actually thinking of going to Wal-Mart to CD and see how it would be. I've gone in a couple of convenient stores late at night just to buy gas. I almost went to Wal-Mart one night after a night of drinking. I was drunk and didn't care. But I ended up just going home.

Girls, it's not about being classy enough to not appear in this site.

All of us, just for being read, would end up there if we are unfortunate enough to have one of the "journalists" that post pictures to this site.

What is normal to us, can be ridicule to others. That's my point. I think nobody has the right to make fun about the way other people looks.

I guess I'm lame because I find that site very funny!

I'm not amused at the poverty of some of the people on that website, I'm laughing at their sense of style or taste in clothing (I mean lack of). C'mon, you can still buy decent looking clothes when you are poor. When I see the "People of Wal-Mart", all I can think of is a very extreme version of that TLC TV show, 'What Not To Wear". It's amazing what people will wear in public.

If your worried about getting your pic posted on "People of Wal-Mart", just don't go there when you CD.

its not about us.. its about life in general there are no more nor less videos on that site about us than there is about the general public... i dont think its mockery ..simply an observation... and you all know you dont need to go to walmart to see some of lifes precious oddities...

I'm not concerned about appearing in this site. The main reason is because I don't go to Walmart because we don't have Walmarts in my country.

The point is: Do you find these people funny? Well, many people find CDs funny too. They find CDs ridicule.

I don't agree with this point of view, but I just want to point that there is a perspective about how people perceives us, that is no different from how we perceive others,.

If we ask society for acceptance as CDs, we should start changing ourselves and accepting other's differences.

And making fun of other's people poverty, "sense of fashion", or other reason that affects how they look, is just not right.

And honestly, I think we should know better.

I have to say that anyone presenting as the other gender, in any reasonable way, would not be at all interesting enough to make the "People of Walmart" site.

We are just all too boring for this site, girls!

I have seen that site myself as well. To tell you the truth, I often wonder if some of it is staged and not actually real candid pics. Because some of the pics just seem too ridicules to be authentic....just some food for thought ladies. :)

I don't like making fun of low income people. But low income people still should have common sense as to how NOT to dress. Only some are uneducated back hills types of people. Some are just those that don't care what others think or how they might offend others. They just have poor taste.
So yes, I look at that site and laugh or just shake my head in disbelief that anyone would dress like some I've seen on that site. Let's face it, some people deserve being laughed at for their lack of common sense or decency.

I happen to work at a Walmart. The kind of walking wardrobe malfunctions featured on that site are in the miniscule minority, but very, very real.

PoWM has nothing to do with poverty and everything to do with bad taste and bad judgement.

Supposedly, the subject of each photo on PoWM has signed a photo release.

believe me some of the "wardrobe" problems i see, are not due to poverty. they are people that really have such bad taste it even makes me look good.
but to our (society) good some stores are now telling people to go home...or at least off the property due to showing up at the store in there pajamas and slippers. :o
as it has become a problem in some places. even a gang symbol.
and the boys in jeans that are hanging below there knees. escorted out the bldg.

No matter how someone is dressed, if they haven't given permission, they could sue--and should (walmart just loves to be in court) for defamation of character and violation of their privacy, since they are not public figures. And , of course, Walmart should be after this website as it is also bad publicity for them.

I am actually a fan of this site. Having worked at almart you would be positvily astound at what people will wear. As to the crossdressers, notice how they are all inappropiatly dressed for public. Dress like you outta (crossed or not) and most people never give a second glance. But I have seen a six foot tall man in a see thru lace dress and 5inch platform stripper heels at walmart. He was calling attention to himself!

As to those who are "poor and less fortunate"? If you can afford to shop at walmart you can afford to buy pants while you're there. There is no excuse for going out in panties and trying to pass them off as shorts!

That's horrible. I can't believe people don't have anything better to do with their lives but to make fun of others. That's disgusting, glad we live in a world free of prejudice.

I regret seeing this site or even knowing that it exists. I have no interest in laughing at other people. And if I wear a dress there I have no interest in them laughing at me.

I can't believe the hypocrisy in this thread, so many of you want acceptance, but then slam someone because of what they wear? Before this thread gets worse, I'm closing it.
