I was wondering If there are any girls out there who are in transition and has the sound of your voice changed ? Has it become more feminine or have you sought out voice training to help with the sound of your voice? I was wondering because I have started singing/voice training lessons and would like to know if they will make a difference. I figure if they don't help I will be able to sing for people and at parties I am looking at the avenues that can open up by doing this and having a more feminine voice would be nice to go with my transition

Just a disclaimer, I am not going through transition.

Hormones will not alter the sound of your voice to others unless you haven't gone through puberty (I assume you have XD)

From the research I've done and some MTF trans that I've talked to, what you want to practice is called "head voice" or "pharyngeal voice" in the singing community and maybe some other things as well.
Supposedly, singing with a "twang" helps you get a feel for pharyngeal voice.
The muscles you use are similar to the ones you use while gargling or swallowing.

Hope this helps a little.

Hormones and tracheal shaving (the surgery where they shave your Adam's apple), from what I've read, do not affect voice whatsoever.

If you want more information regarding voice feminization, look no further that the thread below, and/or start watching Youtube videos about voice feminization. There's a ton of them!

I have not yet started voice coaching, but have been assured by people who know that even I should be able to achieve a passable voice in time. Sine I am starting from a voice that has difficulty stretching up to the male bass range, if they think I can do it, you will be able to as well. Just don't expect to notice the improvements as they are happening. :2c:

You can watch and read and listen all you want to advisors, but in the end the real work of finding a feminine voice falls to you. You either work at it or not. If it is holding you back then you simply aren't ready to be out. It is just an excuse for not trying.

Get out there and simply listen to women. There is a complete range to their voices. Haven't you ever heard a woman who sounds "like a man"? I do everyday, but the actions and/or appearance carry her femininity through.

If you focus on a single aspect you are missing the bigger picture.

tamara nailed...i tried tapes and a specialist..but the only thing that worked is going outside and talking to people..

i've been full time since last year, and my voice still changes daily...

having confidence in whatever voice you do have is also important
