I was moving my motorcycle trailer when the swivel hitch spun and it slipped out of my hands, catching and breaking two of my nails! Arg :Angry3:! At least it was on my left hand – those nails seem to grow about twice as fast as my right hand nails. I read someplace that “off” hand nails do grow faster that “on” hand nails – I know it’s true for me.

So I got to thinking about long finger nails and the trials and tribulations that go along with them. So I came up with some questions:

How much time do you spend on your nails? I do in home manicures once a week, and file as needed. I also use a hand lotion daily that’s supposed to strengthen my nails – It does seem to work…

How often do you break your nails? Used to be a lot more, now it’s only about once every two weeks.

How many pairs of nylons have you ruined with your nails? Only one! Now I’m much more careful!

How many times have you hurt yourself with your nails? I learned the hard way that if you go to rub your eye and forget you nails that it hurts a lot!

How many times have you hurt someone else with your nails? I’ve stabbed the wife a few times!

Has anyone ever commented (good or bad…) on your nails? Every once in a while my wife will tell me to trim my nails…

How has having long nails changed how you do things? Slow down! Be sure you have a good grip on things (like motorcycle trailers!!!). Learn to use the pads of your fingers instead of the tips.

How about the rest of you girls?
:hugs:

It isn't uncommon for more than one of my fingernails to break in the same day. My fingernails grow fairly quickly but pretty thin, and are prone to dents and prone to peeling. I am on the computer for 16-ish hours a day which might have to do with the rate of nail growth. My toenails grow much more slowly and thicker.

Let's see... I got my nails done 1 1/2 weeks ago, and already I have at least 1/8" gap in the polish at the bottom.

Q. How much time do you spend on your nails?
A. HOURS.... I get in trouble for spending too much time on them.

Q. How often do you break your nails?
A. Usually one broken at least weekly while working on classic cars.

Q. How many pairs of nylons have you ruined with your nails?
A. Countless, but more with my clumsiness.

Q. How many times have you hurt yourself with your nails?
A. once or twice, noting serious.

Q. How many times have you hurt someone else with your nails?
A. Not at all so far.... Tell a lie... Once accidentally pinched a guys happy parts undoing his zip.

Q. Has anyone ever commented (good or bad…) on your nails?
A. Nope... Sadly not.

Q. How has having long nails changed how you do things?
A. I am more careful, but regularly shorten them to avoid smashing them off. I do however avoid solvents, grease and paint while working on the cars, I now wear pvc gloves all the time. (also keeps hands clean).

Being in the Medical business I need to keep my nails short for work and I NEVER break them, even though I regularly compete in the DIY Olympics.
There is a place where you can buy wide stick-on long nails for men which in the past I have used with success....from the photography point of view.
They're useless for chores or, for instance, Piano playing !
I'd get my tights on first before applying them.

I took my acrylics off for a few months (had them for over a year). I'm very upset that I don't have them. I feel kind of like I am walking around naked all of the time, wearing man hands. Anyway, I'm putting those suckers back on here soon. Can't stand being without them anymore. But, I'll answer like I still have them..

How much time do you spend on your nails?
-Salon 2x a month for 30 minutes.

How often do you break your nails?
-Pretty tough to break, unless I am in between fills. But, I would say every couple of months.

How many pairs of nylons have you ruined with your nails?
-God...too many. Mine and Ryan's, for that matter. (Though I think I blamed it on him at the time...lolz)

How many times have you hurt yourself with your nails?
-If you had a fake nail break...you know the pain. Dear God it hurts.

How many times have you hurt someone else with your nails?
-Maybe some loving scratches...

Has anyone ever commented (good or bad…) on your nails?
-Usually after they are first done, I get lots of compliments. If I've gotten lazy and have been to long between feels, people will say, "Oh, I didn't know your nails were fake. Those are bad for your nails." Whatever.

How has having long nails changed how you do things?
-I can use them as screwdrivers...

Q. How much time do you spend on your nails?
A. Depends on how I want them to look, but I'll at least file them once a week.

Q. How often do you break your nails?
A. Not that often. It seems I'll break one doing something easy, like laundry, before I'll break one doing something hard, like yard work.

Q. How many pairs of nylons have you ruined with your nails?
A. A couple a year maybe.

Q. How many times have you hurt yourself with your nails?
A. Several, usually scratches, when I've let them grow out.

Q. How many times have you hurt someone else with your nails?
A. A few, so says my wife ;)

Q. Has anyone ever commented (good or bad…) on your nails?
A. Just my wife. When we hold hands, she'll run a finger over my nails just to judge their length and tell me they are too long.

Q. How has having long nails changed how you do things?
A. Not really, but then again, they aren't that long anyway (though my wife would beg to differ).

I am at the salon every two weeks to have them filled and once a week to redo at home.

Since I work with my hands in a maintenance role I have destoyed them numerous times and once was with a four inch grinder. I know wear gloves. Oooops

I have ruined nylons but learned to check them before you roll the nylons.

I have never hurt anyone with my nails but myself and hope I never do.

I get compliments about my nails all the time and last night was no different. A friend of mine and her daughter were over to pick up my backyard fire pit and she seen my nails and thought they looked really good. I had just come from the salon. LOL

They are a reflection of our inner soul.

I have worn long acrylic nails, 5/8" - 3/4" past the fingertips, for over 12 years now. I probably break one every few months -- usually when they get caught between heavy objects or something rolls over one. But it's pretty unusual, because I have learned how to handle them and am kind of instinctively careful now to avoid situations that would put them at risk. I did break two nails in a 24-hour period in unrelated accidents a couple of weeks ago, which was a bummer and a surprise. But I've also frequently gone for a year or two at a time without needing any repairs. I go for a fill and polish every two weeks, which typically takes about three hours, more if I get fancy nail art or they need repairs of replacement. So I'd say I spend a couple of hours a week on them on average.

I get comments -- uniformly complimentary -- on my nails all the time, at least every day or two. Usually from drive-up workers, cashiers and so on, since the people I work with or see all the time have long gotten used to them. Only a couple of times ever has anyone said anything negative about them.

I have damaged my stockings with my nails a couple of times, usually when there was a rough spot on one of them I didn't know about. But I'm a veritable expert at destroying nylons with any tool or opportunity that is available, so the number of times my nails have been involved in their demise is only a small fraction of the total!

I haven't ever injured myself to the point of drawing blood or anything, but I have "surprised" myself when rubbing my eyes a couple of times, especially when sleepy.

I did once have a girl refuse "intimate contact" with me because she was afraid the nails would hurt her "down there." Later she became a great fan of my using them as part of a back massage, though, so all was eventually forgiven.
