Well it is hard to believe but my first week at work full time is history.
Two big factors stick out in my mind:
1. After about 2 days things seemed to quickly fall back into business as usual.
2. Several people that I dealt with often and directly did not recognize me!! One even told me that I looked like a woman!!
Clearly there is lots of time remaining to have things so stupid. Yet this week has gone quite well and much better than I would have ever dreamed possible.
P.S. I even wore a skirt today!!

:^5: I am glad it's going so well for you. I think "business as usual" is all most of us want out of transitioning at work.
"You look like a woman" is a statement of the obvious, not a complement. :heehee:

Yea as you now realize the big bad world is not as bad as so many paint a picture of it to be.
Now I will say one thing. IF POSSIBLE start planning on moving, changing new jobs, getting transfered within the company, ect.
The point is that you will come to realize that YES people do accept you but they knew the person from before and that is all it takes for you to forever be the TRANS girl. They might even be your friends but VERY FEW can actually re-program thier minds.
It is not so much that people can figure you out as the fact that the people at your work knew the gUY.

Letting people at work "know the guy" was essential for me, first. I'm 50 and can't afford(or at least justify, at this point) facial surgery. I'm always going to be the trans woman to alot of people, no matter where I go. I dont have a problem with that. I did transfer a year before I came out at work to a place where I thought it would be a bit easier, and it was. In fact, it was mostly a non-event. If people like you, they like you. If I had just shown up as Melissa a year ago, they would not have given themselves nearly as much of a chance to get to know me and like me. That they had something invested in me as a person before they knew I was trans was a huge plus, as far as I'm concerned, and I ain't going anywhere. Hey, it's just work....I dont have a social life with anyone there, and I get along well with virtually all of them. I can't control how they really view me, and don't care to. They show me the respect and consideration I ask for, and that's all I seem to need from work aquaintances.
I'm so happy for you, Veronica. Continued good luck and strength to you :)
Hugs,
Melissa:)

Veronica that's great to hear. I love hearing about these huge non-events as they happen. For the person who said you look like a woman, all he did was state the obvious.
I will always be the transwoman at work and that's fine. I've got an excellent job I'm not about to walk away from an established history with people. Even if I were young enough and just starting out I would still think long and hard about Kate's suggestion for running away and starting over but I guess that's a decision you have to make.
Melissa said it very well and I agree completely

Best to you in the future Veronica. I hope life only gets better from here :hugs:

Congrats on your wonderful 1st week..
I think most all of us that have gone through with this were surprised how non-eventful these things really are..
No large crowds waiting with pitchforks or anything...lol
But the best is yet to come...and it keeps getting better..

Veronica it sounds like a wonderful step in your journey. I too had a first day that was interesting but like you it gradually got back to normal. Skirts, not here as standing on an eight foot ldder in a skirt is asking for trouble, LOL. Congrats.

great feeling isn't it? And now life is just so much easier to walk with out that fear on your back?
